this is an absolute joke, if Bess was that much better then Ginn, then why was Ginn at the end not bess. Aside from Allen, Bell our secondary sucks.
I would love to see Ginn back there just becuase I know Ginn can score on any givin play. I'd actually much rather have the two players switch roles. I would much rather see Bess at WR more often, and have Ginn returning punts and kicks.
Bess had lanes to run through too but he chose to just juke out of them Ginn will either hit the whole or he will try to bounce it to the outside, Bess does not know when to do either.
Our special teams coach should be looking for a new job on Monday. They killed us on kickoffs, and punts all day. When you are constantly backed up to your own 20 and giving the other team starts from the 50 yard line, you deserve to get beat.
bess is horrible..on punts he is okay but on kickoffs he is atrocious...we need a playmaker back there and bess is not a playmaker in anyway shape or form
This wasn't Bess' fault we lost but Ted Ginn needs to be back there. Have coaches lost THAT much confidence in the guy?
Folks. You all sound like the Coaches WANT to lose. There are reasons Bess is returning. Do I know what they are? No Do any of you REALLY know what they are? Sorry, but Ted Ginn is NOT the answer. Not sure Bess is any better, but I don't think he is any worse, otherwise the coaches would put Ginn in there.
I don't know if Ginn is the answer that they want but I certainly think he's a better guy than Bess. However, what one has to look into this decision is if the coaching staff wants Ginn to focus on becoming a better Wide Receiver. That has to be considered.
Do you not remember the impact Ginn had last year at returner? Do you not remember all the returns for TD that were called back? Please tell me how many returns Bess has have for Touchdowns.
Thats the only playcall they run with Ginn he was open on a slant route but PEnnington made the right choice to bomb it to Ronnie for 38 yards.
Okay. So YOU tell ME why he's not back there. Sorry, but I do trust the coach's. Believe me, IF Ginn was this brilliant, and Parsnips knew it was costing us, Coaches heads would've already been severed. There is something seriously wrong with Ginn. I have no idea what it is....just saying, with all due respect, I trust the current coaching staff more tahn anybody on this board.
What do you want him to do? The guy goes out and does what he can. He is a good route runner in my opinion and has good hands despite that being a constant knock by others on him. He gets free down the field but Pennington doesn't throw it because he's flushed out of the pocket.
Honestly I don't know perhaps they want him to become that number 1 guy but it just isn't working with Pennington at QB, part of it is his route running he isn't getting to where he should be so when Pennington checks Ginn and he isn't where he should be Chad looks else where. Were also handicapped at what we can do with Chad, Chad doesn't have that rocket arm to get the ball 40 yards deep to Ginn. Ginn should be the returner thats on the coaches Bess isn't having any impact. Honestly trade Ginn elsewhere if you are not going to use his strengths.
There was a reason Fiedler was chosen to start instead of Huard. I'm still searching for that reason!
Pennington has a radius where he can make effective throws. Problem is, that radius is not that long. If you're a WR on the outside, you run out of that half circle really quickly.
If they know Ginn ins't better, then why did they Put Ginn back their when they NEEDED a long return?
Must be something wrong with Ronnie and Ricky too then. Because on several 3rd and shorts they had an empty backfield and put it in Pennington's hands. 3rd and 2 and we have an empty backfield. How dumb is that?
Okay, Bess averaged 25 yards a return on a 1 punt and 28.3 yards on 3 returns on kickoffs, and this is a joke????? Please!!!! We lost because of our defense, and that's the only reason, Ginn has been the joker on punt returns when given a chance this year.
Bess seems like he is always one bounce to the outside away from breaking a big one. The problem is he doesn't have the speed to actually bounce it out.
The problem this year is Ginn does not even catch the ball, he lets it bounce (This year in his trys). This is not why we lost, Bess did a great job today. We lost because the defense could not stop the Texans, the secondary was awful, and our return team defense (Was thought to be our strong suit in the off season) was awful.
Put him on kick returns, get him some reps at punt returns so he doesn't let it bounce. What do you expect if he hardly gets any reps at punts then you stick him in there cold? Practice practice practice. It's not the reason why we lost but does that mean you don't try to improve it? Maybe it helps us win.
I never said it was the reason we lost or even contributed to us losing. I just think field position is a HUGE part of the game, and especially on kickoffs we are taking a loss in that area. The ball has bounced because the coaches are throwing Ginn into the game with no warning to return punts with no reps. Thats NOT an easy thing to do. Have a friend go out and punt you some balls and try to catch them, it's hard enough withough 250 pound men closing in on you. I have no problem with Bess on punts though, I'd just rather see Ginn on returns.
We went +3 in the turnover ratio, our offense should have capitalized on those. Sure, the defense didn't play the best, but neither did the offense.
I just am a bit upset that they had Ted Ginn back returning the kick with 3 seconds left and not Bess. Al Pacino said, "If you're gonna make mistakes, make'm big!" or something of the sort, that's how I feel. If you're gonna pick Bess, pick him as your guy... Not just your guy unless the game is on the line... It just doesn't make me feel better about the situation when they had more faith in Ginn than Bess when the game is on the line....
I know I was like WTF your going to let Ginn return this with 3 seconds? Why not let him back there earlier in the game? We can only wonder if Ginn takes it back.
If Reggie Bush can return punts and be in on most offensive plays then so can Ginn. So I don't buy the excuse that they want Ginn to play as fast as he can as a WR. That would be a legit excuse if Pennington ever threw the ball further than 10 yards down the field. If you aren't going to use Ginn as a WR in a way best suited to his skills then why not use him in the other facet of the game where he is a PROVEN commodity that can help the team? Bess has proven NOTHING as a return man. I don't care what Ginn does in practice or how many punts he didn't field through the first few weeks. He should be back there and until he is our special teams will continue to hurt the entire team.
Hell, Reggie Bush proved how important special teams is last Monday... If it wasn't for him, the Saints would not have even been in that game...
The offense should have put up more points, should have converted more third downs and should have played for more TOP. The defense will get the blame from people who just react without going beneath the surface but it was the offense that should have essentially put the game out of reach. I don't care what happned on that last drive because it shouldn't have come down to that last drive like that, not when your D is plus three.
I'll say it again, are you at the practices? Do you know he does not get reps? This staff goes over everything, I'm pretty sure Ginn gets reps in practice, and I'm pretty sure that Bess is doing it better in practice, that's why he is playing.
Ginn is scared of getting hit, and people actually want this guy returning kickoffs when defenders are flying down the field like missles? There's actually a greater probablity of a guy getting hurt when playing this game timid. This organization should try to protect whatever is left (however small it may be) of their 9th overall investment.
Ginn's fear and lack of focus makes too much risk of a bothched catch giving the other team the ball at the 5 yard line or worse. Many great college players often fall short in the NFL lacking that final piece in skill / attitude / mental focus. So far Bess is playing better. Yes Ginn can and has taken some all the way but the opposite is much more common with him this year for some reason and I doubt it's lack of reps in practice.
For the record: This year, the Dolphins have had 10 punts returned 6 by Bess for 81 yards and an average of 13.5. His long was 25 yards 4 by Ginn Jr for 24 yards and an average of 6 yards. His long was 11 yards Sorry, but in almost equal returns the numbers arent even close. The times Ginn has had an opportunity, he has let the ball bounce in front of him, or just plain run out of bounds. Last year Ginn had 24 returns and an average of 9.6 yards (Comes out to 230 yards) with 1 touchdown. That one touchdown was an 87 yarder, so take away that one (1) homerun and he has 23 returns for 143.4 yards which comes out to a whopping 6.23 Average per attempt. That does NOT include his 15 Fair-catches. Folks, that is FAR from being stellar. I keep hearing excuses like "Ginn's not that type of player." Well, exactly what type of player is he? 6 yards per punt return? Check the facts for yourselves http://www.nfl.com/teams/statistics?season=2007&team=MIA&seasonType=
As stated in a previous Ginn thread, the guy was #6 last year in Kickoff Returns. What number is Bess this year? /endthread
He returned kick off for all his life, I trust him over Bess. Scared of getting hit? That's a bit exaggerated, IMO. He ran out of bounds once or twice, big deal.. **** happens, no reason to magnify his mistakes over others. Maybe he's not going to be an elite #1 receiver... But we might as well take what we can get in him and that's an elite returner... People here downplay special teams too much, without it some teams would not be the same... Chicago and Devin Hester ring a bell, anyone? It's obvious we're not a stretch the field kind of offense, we're a run first offense. Good coaches find ways to use their players, look at Wes Welker and New England last year... Let Ginn take returns.. Let him run in the slot and take the 5 yard slants and make yardage out of it instead of running screens where he is at a complete stop or running 15 yard routes which aren't even finished by the time Pennington throws the ball.. I don't see why it has to matter if he plays the slot position and return kicks/punts instead of working on being just a number one receiver, if he's producing... what the hell does it matter?
Like last year's special teams even deserves to be compared to this year's special teams... If Ginn had the space that Bess has this year, this wouldn't even be an issue.
