Here are the Dolphins, Jets, Patriots, Ravens, and Steelers schedules with (IMO) how tough each game is on a scale of 1 to 10. Obviously each team is graded differently pending which division they are in. I think we have the easiest remaining schedule next to Pittsburgh, but the smallest margin of error. MIAMI DOLPHINS 35/60 @ Oakland - 5/10 vs Cleveland - 4/10 @ New York (Jets) - 10/10 vs Buffalo - 4/10 vs Detroit - 2/10 @ New England - 10/10 NEW YORK JETS 44/60 vs Cincinnati - 3/10 @ New England - 10/10 vs Miami - 7/10 @ Pittsburgh - 10/10 @ Chicago - 9/10 vs Buffalo - 4/10 NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS 41/60 @ Detroit - 2/10 vs New York (Jets) - 10/10 @ Chicago - 9/10 vs Green Bay - 9/10 @ Buffalo - 4/10 vs Miami 7/10 BALTIMORE RAVENS 39/60 vs Tampa Bay - 7/10 vs Pittsburgh - 10/10 @ Houston - 5/10 vs New Orleans - 8/10 @ Cleveland - 5/10 vs Cincinnati - 4/10 PITTSBURGH STEELERS 31/60 @ Buffalo - 2/10 @ Baltimore - 10/10 vs Cincinnati - 4/10 vs New York (Jets) - 9/10 vs Carolina - 1/10 @ Cleveland - 5/10 One of those four teams will collapse to 10-6, IMO... However we have a tough road ahead of us. It certainly isn't going to be likely that we win out, but it's possible. Luckily we have one of the easier remaining schedules. Granted New York and New England is going to be tough, but if we can beat New York... there is a good chance that we'll be playing for a wildcart spot come week 17. I think this all depends on whether or not Henne/Berger returns to the line-up this weekend... I don't think we'll go to the playoffs, but it's certainly possible. I think we go either 4-2 or 5-1. I really don't see us beating both New England and New York, but stranger things have happened. And I don't understand why people get upset over playoff talk. Us looking ahead of the schedule won't affect the outcome of the game no matter what you want to think. It's what the players and coaches do, not what we do.
People get pissy about playoff talk...because they think its what they are supposed to do....lol. All we are doing is looking at the technical aspects of a playoff run....and for some they cant seem to grasp such an easy concept...
I guess that's why it's a 16 game season, not a 10 game season. I never got the "if the season would end today" talk... it doesn't matter how it would end today, all it matters is how it would end after week 17.
true, so whats the point of the thread then?? people will win and lose...it is no use trying to figure out if the Jets beat Cinny, or Miami loses to Detroit, or if NE rolls the rest of the way...it is what it is...obvously nobody knows...
And as far as I know....most of us on this forum are Phins fans....as long as the season is...a much longer after.....so...I know Im hoping we win out...and get a playoff spot. I know its been done before....so...if there are other people like me...Im sure those of us would like to see how it plays out specifically. Those that dont like thinking about the playoffs...should probably find another forum to be part of...not sure why youd want to spend it here...
The point of the thread Yank.... Is that some people want to follow the Phins and how they can possibly get into the playoffs...because well...thats what our goal is....you know...the playoffs.... What I dont understand.... Is if people such as yourself....dont find anything of use in it....then why are you spending time in it? Certainly it isnt mandatory....
It is no different than a pennant race in MLB, only each NFL game is like 10 MLB games. Funny thing is, with the Sparano Phins, the past two yrs we have played games that mattered up until the last game both seasons, Dolphins fans tend to not recall that 4 out of 5yr yr run where we had no shot at playing a single meaningful game after Christmas. So I'm enjoying this season from that sense.
Of course but are we really talking about playoffs?? havent you been watching them?? what in God's name makes you think they can have a real shot of making the playoffs, playing the way they are.....of course who knows anything can happen, however they better start winning, because 1/2 of your dream scenrio in your signature in already gone bro...they cant lose another game...get that?
Exactly....its just like tracking a pennant chase.... Its reference material folks....thats all. Nobody said...we're going to make the playoffs and heres why... What the thread does...and all it does.....is list the statistical probability each week the Phins make the playoffs. Dont want to know...or dont care...dont read it. Why is that such a difficult concept to grasp?
Your optimism is commendable but the fact remains taht the Dolphins showed 0 offense for the most part of this season. The playcalling is extra conservative, conservative football is for lights out defenses, which we do not have. Henne or no Henne we havent exactly "lit" up the score board, we need to score touchdowns and we are completely incapable of doing that. We play offense like we are holding teams to field goals, not really. The Jets marched up the in less than a minute to score a TD yesterday, when was the last time you saw a Miami team bomb like that successfully just to get the defense to stop breathing down our necks? We got aways to go as a team and I dont think this coaching staff is answer either to help us get back to glory. Sincerely, Brokehearted Dolfan
OK....here we go AGAIN. Its for reference. Im sure I watch them at least or as much as you do. Which means I will be watching every game the rest of the season...even if they are out of the playoffs.... But as long as they remain in the playoffs mathematically.....I will want to know what it takes for the Phins to get there. It isnt a thread of if a believe they willl......it isnt a thread about if I dont think they willl..... It is a thread about math.....facts. Win this week....probability changes to what....etc. THATS ALL. Its not a difficult concept to grasp.... But if you are so set in your thinking that we arent going to the playoffs.....why are you in a playoff talk thread? Are you the thought police?
Honestly? Because I think there is enough talent on offense that not even Henning can keep it messed up for an entire season, as Fisher said: "That is an offense that is ready to explode on somebody" That and as I've mentioned, we went 5 seasons with no shot at making the playoffs, or even playing meaningful games in late December, so I enjoy it. What 03 to 07 we were done by Christmas? IRC even Lil Nicky's 9-7 season we started 1-6, finished 9-7 but were effectively done by early December.
ITS NOT OPTIMISIM....its got nothing at all to do with anything other then math and statistics. The numbers dont change whether I want them to or not.... Where is this point confusing, because Im not getting it?
I just wondered it out loud thats all, okay there is no elaborate scheme bro, this is it, they cant lose one more game, forget schedules, forget if's, forget everything.....if they lose more more game, they go into a vastly negative scenrio which includes tiebreakers...to which they have the shortstraw to every team right now except Tenn, but me thinks Tenn will implode and not even be there in the end... So evey week is playoff week for Miami, they lose one game and it is bye bye 2010 season unfortunately...which might be a good thing for my blood pressure, as I will not be upset about losing anymore once the sting of the elimination loss has ended... My only hope is that I am wrong and Miami does make the playoffs and this rant ends up as everybodys signature....
The words Playoffs and Dolphins dont belong in the same sentence at this point.... dont you get it? ath or no math we got half the line we started with this year, out stud LT is gimped, our best offensive players get the ball about 5-10 times a game the last few games oh yeah and we are down to our 3rd string QB? Even if we were "blessed" to have Henne back its not like he was scoing TD's and that was with BMarsh on the field. He's gimped now so here we are back at square one in week 12 and we are talking about mathematical playoff possibilities.
Win out we go. Lose a game and I highly doubt it. That being sad I don't see us winning out unless the Pats rest starters or come up with some serious injuries. Let's go Bengals.
Every year since Don Shula left it has been dark grim November/December months. Except for 2 years, the year wanstache rode lamar smith back to the divisional playoffs and the year of the comeback with penny. All over have been horrible to endure. Im a diehard dolphins fan and I will undoubtedly watch all the remaining games but deep inside it sucks to know midway through the season that come week 17 you might need a miracle to continue or that your out all together. It gets old man, so old.
To me, the better bet to have some problems is not the Steelers, it is the Ravens: Tampa, NOLA, Browns, Houston, Steelers.
I was saying go Benals in regards to othe Jets game and you are right I would much rather see the Ravens at home in Jan. We need one of them to mess up.
I believe any team can have problems. The Jets have to feel very lucky not to be 5-5, better lucky than good. I know how many hate what if's but, if not for a ref's call, we're ahead of Pitt for the #6 playoff spot right now. Crazy year.
You're serious with this? The Jets have the best record in the entire league. And that loss came in the beginning of the season
It isn't about the lottery, it's simple yet correct reasoning. The Dolphins trail these teams: Jets 8-2 Pats 8-2 Ravens 7-3 Steelers 7-3 IMO, those 4 teams make the playoffs. Indy wins their division b/c JAX will fold. Houston is done. The Phins aren't catching the Jets, Pats, Ravens, or Steelers.
In the Dolphins case, yes, yes it is. In Week 11, it is. Especially after you've been too inconsistent after a 2-0 start, have lost most of your home games (all on primetime too), have lost every game to each team ahead of you in the standings, and injuries have hampered you to play guys out of position and a QB who looked like he had no idea what he was doing.
If you feel that way then I won't bother to try and change your mind. For myself, they play the games for a reason, the season is has time left in it and there is no reason not to wait to see how things turn out.
And the Ravens also play 3 or 4 first place teams between now and the end of the season. Where are the winning lottery numbers BTW?
You're saying it's just as easy to predict how the rest of the year will play out as picking lottery numbers that take years if ever for you to win?
In all seriousness, I think the Dolphins have a better shot at catching the Jets than they do the Ravens. It's probably the cynical Jet fan inside of me, but like most of you guys, I am waiting for the collapse Now if you lose to Oakland and the Jets beat Cincy, then picking up 5 games with 6 left would be next to impossible.
That's fine, my mind doesn't need to be changed. I see the Ravens losing 1, maybe 2 more games. The worst the Jets will go is 11-5 IMO.
A six game winning streak is not outside the realm of possibility. Their toughest remaining opposition is within the division which is a good thing. Figuring out how to have a run game again will probably help.
