This game is crazy. Maalox is going to fly off the shelves in one of these two cities tonight.

It's hard to believe they're playing the same sport that we saw played in Hard Rock this season.

Wait.. you're talking about Philbin? Don't forget Philbin was OC for GB from 2007, a full year before Aaron Rodgers started. So the OC that "allowed" Rodgers to shine and even win a SB turned out to be a dud of a HC.

In general I'd stay away from OCs that looked great with great QBs. Daboll fits the mold perfectly: some of the worst offenses pre-Allen, and one of the best from Allen's 2nd year. I say no to Daboll.

And holy crap this game!! This game is slowly becoming one of the most impressive games in NFL playoff history.

That's what truly elite QBs can do. We can't even dream of Tua ever playing like Allen or Mahomes.

I think whoever wins this game will win it all. These are probably the two best teams and definitely two best QBs left in the playoffs.

Hackett, the current GB OC is who I was going for, another hot candidate this offseason, though not interviewing with us at this point.

And part of the thing about Daboll is that he HAS coached without an elite QB in the NFL. He got elite performances out of Tua in college and he got career years out of guys like Reggie Bush and Brandon Marshall and made Matt Moore look solid. He doesn't have tons of elite offensive numbers because until now he hasn't really worked with an elite QB. I am more wary of guys that were placed into a situation that already had an elite QB in place and functionally elite before they came. I'd personally be more interested in McDaniel and Daboll, though the Rams dude is intriguing (mostly because he's unknown, but coming from a tree that is proving elite).

Yeah and his offenses were near worst in the NFL:
    https://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/DaboBr0.htm

Pre-Allen his offenses were ranked 29th, 31st, 20th and 32nd. C'mon man. That's a terrible record without an elite QB.

Speak for yourself. Stranger things have happened. And I'm not debating Tua in this thread because it's robust in the other. But this game was one for the ages. Watching some fantastic QB play this weekend.

If you can have the best defense in the league and still get beaten in the playoffs by Patrick Mahomes, scoring 30+ points in regulation, you have to wonder what having the best defense in the league truly means.

IMO, with the way rules are skewed towards offense, you need an all time elite defense with HOFers like Ravens or Bucs. But it’s been 18 years since we’ve seen that model work so maybe the entire league comes down to did you get lucky to get one of the 5-6 QB’s who can win a super bowl.

10 out of the 17 teams they played didn't have very good QBs.

Here are the 10 teams I'm talking about:
    Dolphins 2x
    Washington
    Houston
    Jacksonville
    Jets 2x
    Saints
    Panthers
    Falcons

What this says is the Bills were really good at shutting down subpar or merely average QBs. They have a good defense, but this isn't like the Seahawks defense in 2013 and 2014 that could shut down the best offenses, including that Peyton-led record setting offense.

Josh Allen did not deserve to lose tonight- I actually felt bad for him on the sidelines, watching Mahommes carve up the field in OT.

Both deserved to win, but one's got to lose. I still think what Mahomes did with 13 seconds left is for me the tiebreaker in terms of who (marginally) deserved to win more. Two clutch 19 and 25 yard passing plays in 10 seconds with just enough time left for a game tying FG. Even for elite QBs that's pretty unlikely. Man.. what an unbelievable game.

Mahomes had a long stretch of games mid-season where he was often playing below average, but he's rebounded just in time for the playoffs and is back to top form. He's clearly the odds-on favorite to win his 2nd SB, and it probably won't be his last.

So the last 4 SB winners might be: Brady, Mahomes, Brady, Mahomes lol. Actually, Brady has been winning every 2nd SB lately. He won in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020. Will he be back in 2022? The guy is ageless.

What I noticed is no one dinked and dunked. To win in the real season you need a strong arm quarterback who can run. We don’t get those we ain’t winning anything we’re so far behind all these teams from the gameplay I’m seeing.

That's not true. Brady is a master of dink and dunk and isn't mobile in the sense of Mahomes/Rodgers/Allen, and he's had more success than anyone. However, to win with dink and dunk you need elite level ball placement and the ability to quickly and accurately read defenses. Brady has that. Not many QBs do. Dink and dunk at a high level isn't "easy", but it's certainly a viable strategy with the right QB.

That’s strange because Chase had a 57 yard catch and 3 other receivers had catches above 21 yards.

Right, so it ratchets up the need for a great passing offense even greater. Allen with a 136 passer rating at 8.9 yards per attempt, coupled with the league's best pass defense (although not historically great) and no turnovers (i.e., they didn't beat themselves), equals a playoff loss.

We're about at the point where Patrick Mahomes is simply "Michael Jordan" and it's about as likely to beat KC in the playoffs as it was to beat the Bulls in Jordan's prime. You'd need the likes of Allen playing about like he did yesterday and a historically great defense -- what are the odds?

I don’t know. Something I thought of overnight, and I’m still pondering the answer…

Was last night’s game an endorsement of just how incredible both team’s quarterbacks and offenses were, particularly in the last 2 minutes of the game, or an indictment on how weak both team’s defenses are?

I can’t really say since I didn’t get home from Jacksonville until nearly the 2 min warning in the 4th but my wife and I watched the remainder of the game and we were just “wow” at what we saw. Allen & Company…Mahomes & Company…I don’t think I had ever seen a playoff game like that in my entire life but that’s when it started getting me thinking…these are PLAYOFF teams…where were the defenses?

Let’s be completely honest and real here. Garappollo and Stafford aren’t household names but the 49ers and the Rams collectively as a team were able to shut down the legends that are Brady and Rodgers. I wouldn’t quite echo your post that whoever wins last night’s game (in this case the Chiefs) will win it all.

I may be wrong, but I can’t help but feel the Chiefs defense is suspect and been exposed. If the Bengals are able to move the ball against Kansas City next week like we saw last night, and even if KC were to pull it out, I don’t think you can automatically crown the Chiefs prematurely.

Either way, last night’s game, from what I did see was one of the more thrilling and entertaining games I e seen in ages.

Makes me also think…what if Miami had made a serious play for Andy Reid when he left Philadelphia, huh?

If that's the pass I'm thinking it was, it was a short pass and Chase turned it into a big one after the catch.

Felt bad for an AFC East opponent? Awww, hell no. I almost threw the remote when the Bills scored with 13 seconds left. I was dancing on the ceiling like Lionel Richie when the Chiefs scored in OT.

It was either a bad throw that happened to work out or a great throw due to chemistry between Burrow and Chase. It is hard to tell when watching it.
