http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_football_dolphins/2012/03/miami-dolphins-coach-joe-philbins-first-public-comments-on-peyton-manning.html Does this sound like a smokescreen to you??
I thought it sounded like Philbin is not as caught up in the frenzy. He mentions "fit" and it makes me wonder if he simply feels that Manning may not be a great fit due to both age and system. We heard Sherman stress that continuity is the most important thing and bringing in an old QB from a different system is the opposite of that, no matter how great he was in that other system. And that's before you even broach the injury concerns. I think fans (and maybe Ross) tend to think that players are either good or bad. My impression is that Philbin may believe that having the coach, OC, QB and obviously the whole offense on the same page is more important than talent (assuming there's at least a certain level of talent).
The media sure is embarassing themselves a lot lately. 1st they're stalking a guy 2 hours after he gets fired after 14 years of service and now they're lining up 2 hours before a charity event just to ask dumbass questions.
That is a good point. I didn't think about that. Perhaps if we don't get Manning that he has a plan that no one knows just yet. The media is giving us a lot to think about and Philbin seems to be unmoved in his plan of action...whatever that may be.
Somebody has to stay reserved and neutral in the event we don't get Manning. Philbin can't exactly gush over Manning and then go and gush over Flynn or a Draft Pick if we have to.
