djphinfanSupporterOP### The Dolphins haven’t been happy with Rishard Matthews for tardiness, lack of attention to detail and other issues --- one reason why they used a second-round pick on Jarvis Landry instead of being content with Matthews as their fourth receiver. Matthews admits it surprised him that Miami drafted two receivers (Landry and Matt Hazel).
But Matthews tells us he hopes a recent meeting with Joe Philbin cleared things up. “I had some my first couple years being young,” he said. “They want me to be more professional off the field, as well as on the field. That’s part of maturing. Little stuff, maybe being late to a couple of meetings. Coach Philbin sat down with me and gave me the ropes. We’re definitely on the same page.”
Even though Matthews has been productive, those ancillary issues have left him battling Armon Binns (who has looked very good), Damian Williams and former running back Marcus Thigpen for the fifth receiver job, barring injuries. Matthews has one less ally here with Jeff Ireland’s departure.

DisgustipateSupporterI don't really think it's safe to assume Matthews is inherently the issue, as much as it is Philbin overreacting to him not being a model citizen. This is "middle management" territory, and that's what Philbin is good at, if anything.
DHPVWNew MemberI liked the guy and think he has a lot of potential. Hopefully this sit down puts things into perspective for him. Be a shame to waste his talent as to a lack of effort on his part.
I disagree. If you want a multimillion dollar paying job, playing a game, you are never late for a meeting, unless an emergency happens. They are trying to change a culture here. That might be part of it. Be a professional.

Actually it was reported that Hickey and Philbin did talk to Pouncey. Both about the Cogs/Martin incident, and the tweets after James was drafted.
"We talked with Mike, and Mike understands that sometimes things can be taken out of context," he said. "What's meant as a light-hearted comment can be taken out of context. We talked with Mike and he was good with that and understands social media is a great tool to reach our fans for the positive. But you have to make good choices with that."

So it is an assumption on your part? Knowing you are a fan, it seems that you would be aware of the discussions Lazor and Philbin have had with Pouncey.

I'm thinking they took Matthews saying he had a "sit down" with Philbin and ran with it. I don't think there was much digging or media guys working their sources for the newest scoop.

That's a pretty gray area to make assumptions on the coach, I will say this, I watched a Lot of stuff on the kid Predraft/post-draft and this news goes against anything that I thought he would of turned out to be..I thought he was totally engaging and a hard worker in his offseason preparation..
Maybe it's just about being attentive in the classroom, which isn't easy for some folks..

Being late is disrespectful to everyone. I remember Philbin sitting Charles Clay down on Hard Knocks for the same thing. How'd that turn out?

With millions of dollars on the line, you'd think that players could at least stay in shape (Knowshon Moreno, Karlos Dansby) and show up to meetings on time (Rishard Matthews).
TriggercutForum VeteranDansby was during the lockdown, and he got real paid anyway. Moreno... I think Armondo is blowing it out his butt. have you seen pics of Moreno? Maybe he meant that marshall guy that got cut and screwed up his notes.

finwinNew MemberI'm not impressed with Richard Mathews. He cost us the Carolina game with drops and bobbles for int's. Ireland was terrible drafting offense. Hopefully Binns shows continues where he left off and Damian Williams unseats Thigpen on returns.
