Give Florio credit, he writes some great headlines. Anyway, Anquan Boldin has told his agent to not negotiate with the Cardinals regarding a new contract, and plans to leave the team when his contract expires. If the Cardinals put him up for trade, I say send the two picks we got for JT over to Arizona. Anquan Boldin is about as good an upgrade our receiving corps can get in the near future.
The man outperforms our entire WR corps. Must have if available. I won't buy his jersey solely because I think I'm cursed when it comes to them and the actual player.
We should pass on AB, our needs are so extensive that we need Draft 2009 just to have potentially good players of the future at DE, CB, S, MLB, OLB. Unless of course we intend to find players off the scrap heap and have a shiney new 20 million dollar Wr and lose at least one high draft pick to bring him in here? We can't pick up those people if are draft picks are being used by Arizona on Draft Day.
If we send the picks from Washington to Arizona, then we've basically done a three-way trade for Anquan Boldin. We could do a hell of a lot worse than that, since we still wind up with a full complement of draft picks, get a prize WR in his prime, and frees up draft-day needs--or at least rearranges draft day priorities.
We have needs there sure, but WR is one of them too and you can't say for sure a WR drafted will pan out. Boldin is a known commodity and a proven vet who could really help out a young corps. We don't have anyone of his stature here. Honestly, I think he's worth Washington's 2nd.
Keep in mind Regan, when the Lions where supposedly shopping Roy (Wr) Williams they wanted a #1 and a #2 the following year, or 2 #1's (as I recall, the price was STEEEP) Boldin would command no less a price tag, and he has a better long term track record.
Except here, Boldin is still fighting for a contract extension. If Cards can't match, they'll be more likely to at least try to get some value from him rather than see him leave in FA in 2010. And teams know this so the asking price can't be that high otherwise, they'd wait for him to hit FA and get him then.
If he doesn't want to stay in Arizona, then the Cardinals will move him prior to his contract expiration for whatever they can get. I think the JT picks might be enough. At the least, it's worth a phone call.
If Boldin, and especially Rosenhaus, are really adamant, Cards may not want to risk a franchise tag on a player who doesn't want to stay and could even holdout.
Id' be surprised if they tag him, they still have Darnell Dockett to lock up and feel that he is a big piece to their defense. EDIT: Isn't Dansby playing on a one-year tender also?
