Give it a rest and give it up. Petey your boy is doing what is best for himself. TFB for you and your selfishness. You should wish the boy well and a happy life. Again TFB Petey.... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcGCMZKniks"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcGCMZKniks[/ame]
To be fair, Sanchez is making the wrong decision to declare after just one full year as a starter. Is it the best move for Sanchez? Maybe, if he's just looking for money and won't mind if he may be called a bust. Word is, it's been heated between the two. Still, I think this is Carroll being nice.
Hopefully the media blows this out of purportion and future blue chip Qb's are scared away from pretty boy U.
Mark Sanchez is making the best move possible. Was he suppose to wait until next year with McCoy, Bradford, and others? Smart move by him. Carrol probably loses some respect with future recruits
Anytime a coach comes out and blasts a kid for leaving early, he always looks like a selfish crybaby. Right or wrong, the decision was made. Who is he to question what a kid does to start earning millions. No, he should have just been supportive and said something like "we wish Mark the best of luck".
I think he was covering his fanny and telling the truth. This is exactly what I as a parent would want to hear.. my kid getting good advice from his coach. I personally see nothing wrong with anything petey said
Especially since Sanchez has earned his degree.....why does he have to stay ? Just to make Petey happy ?
Sorry Marty, WRONG ! Sanchez has his degree, has the chance to make more money in this draft with less competition than next year. Petey is being selfish, plain and simple. Sanchez can only be taking more of a risk by staying.....injury, worse draft position.....there is no reason for Sanchez to stay just to make Petey happy.
every single word he said is true.. go look for yourself.. one year qb's just don't have much of a chance, the second year raises these odds so much you cannot ignore it. I don't like pete one wit, but he's just telling the truth, this kid has just hurt his prospects for success by a lot.
I dont blame him for declaring, like some of the others said next years QB draft will be heavy and this years appears to be lite. He will make more money by declaring this year rather it hurts him long term or not. If he already has his degree it makes Pete look like a real jackass.
I felt that too.....its like finally we see the real insecure Petey that we all know from his Jets and Pasties days.
But he (and I would too) is sacrificing that for the gamble that he will clean up in the draft with little to no competition compared to 2010. He may be the 1st or 2nd QB taken this year, meaning he could go in the 1st round, and make $ 20-40 million. Next year he could be coming off an injury, and slip to the 2nd round and end up with a contract in the $ 4-8 million range. To me its worth every penny of this gamble. Petey is just looking out for himself. He is not a saint, and I wish people would stop seemingly just putting him on a pedestal. He is not God, we know that from his Jests and Pasties time. The throat slashing is still one of the most classless things I have ever seen a coach do as long as I have been watching football (nearly 45 years).
It would be more beneficial if Sanchez stayed at USC and honed his skills, he wont be a day one pick.
He shouldn't be a day one pick but not necessarily he won't be a day one pick. Some QB needy team will jump.
I think he will, after all he is from USC where guys who never even started a game play like pro bowlers.
Marty I am not disagreeing with the stats on 1 yr starters. That is not what this is about. This is about Sanchez maximizing his value. If indeed he is to not be that much of a success in the NFL, then he needs to max out on this 1st contract. For that, this is the year to strike, since next year he will be at best the 4th QB taken (unless he has an incredible year). This also is about the way Petey "Choker" Carroll went about this...he can vehemently disagree with Sanchez. But to publically not support your player when he has made a personal decision, that was just very gauche. Its not his life, and its not his career. Disagree all you want in private, but when the decision has been made to go forward you either support him, or just don't show up at the PC. You just don't publically humiliate the guy out of childish churlishness.
I disagree. Most experts have him either at the end of the 1st round or at the begininng of the 2nd. If he was coming out next year, he would not be taken until the 3rd round.
They guy is getting his full Degree in Communications... i mean if he fails at the NFL, atleast he has that
Yeah he should be. He is one of the better QB's in the draft and played in a pro style offense. Congrats on a wonderful post. I could not agree more I have seen experts (Kiper and Mcshay) say that he could go as high as 3 pick overall. No way this guy falls to the 2nd day. He made the best choice to come out this year and maximize his value
Thanks Skeet, I may not be the most informed on the football side of sports, but I can spot a phoney when I see one, and folks Petey Carroll I could see coming from a mile away.
Well, that really plays into why he would be a 1st round pick but not that he should be. Had McCoy and Bradford declared, he could've dropped to the 2nd round or even top of the 3rd IMO. The guy can really be turnover prone and really, he could've had much more (at least 20 picks according to some) had the CB's held onto the ball. Considering the talent level surrounding him relative to the opposition defense, he should've done much better, scary as that sounds. Not to mention only 1 year's worth of experience as a starter.
I never said he should be a 1st round pick. I don't think the guy is anything special myself however the argument was whether or not he should have come out. He made the right choice. If he comes out next year than his stock would have dropped no matter what he did
He made the right choice in a money standpoint. But he didn't exactly do his football progression any help by declaring early (think Kwame Brown). I think the extra year could've helped if he continued to progress. One year as starter isn't much to go on.
Regan I agree he made the right choice for money, but that is not what this thread is about. This is about Petey Carroll being a whiney little girl.....he went about this WRONG ! The focus of the thread is Carroll not Sanchez.
