Acer desktop starts but won't beep or boot Pulled both memory sticks then I get continuous beep tried each memory stick separate in each slot but still no luck I don't have an extra stick but figure both wouldn't die at the same time Could it be the power supply has enough to start the machine but won't power it? Pulled all the cards and drives still no luck. I am at a loss unless it's the mobo or the processor.... uggh. Any thoughts?
Few questions: Do you normally hear a beep @ normal startup? Do you get the BIOS screen, or is the screen just blank? If the screen is blank AND your monitor is mysteriously on stand-by, it could be a variety of things. Can you hear the hard-drive working / is the light on? Have you made any hardware changes recently?
yep one beep no bios. blank screen. It's not the monitor. Using it now with the backup the hard drive is spinning no changes just wouldn't start tonight
I'm thinking it's a videocard issue. Tell me about your videocard. I asked about the monitor being on stand-by because when there's no video output, it'll just stay blank and go into standby. Not necessarily a monitor problem. Also, I hear the hard-drive is spinning, but is the HDD light coming on regularly (Read/Write light)? Like, is it actively trying to boot the OS?
Integrated graphics so I doubt that is it. If it is that is a mobo issue. I am going to pop a card in it tomorrow and check. Usually if a hard drive is bad it will still POST and run the BIOS but nothing. I'll have to throw it in another machine as a slave to see if shows up. That is why I thought RAM.
Unplug the box and let it sit for awhile if you can and pull the Cmos battery and hit the power button a couple of times with the Cmos battery pulled. Also google "Acer PC (model number) one beep startup" And see what happens.
I replaced the CMOS battery and even swapped the jumper on the pins which has worked in the past with other machines. I googled everything bro and got all the beep codes for the mb. Exhausted all avenues there.
Yeppers. Integrated means it's your MoBo. You mentioned it's an Acer desktop? Yeps. I get clients' machines with MoBo issues and a vast majority have been Acer machines (note: 2005 and older workstations) Indeed, try adding a video card; this will probably fix things (assuming it's a video out issue), but be mindful of the wattage output vs load on your PSU. If anything eBay yourself a new MoBo.
Yep, and there is a beep code somewhere for the old box, I suspect it went into POST, found something it didn't like and just will not boot until something basic is changed.
Nothing crucial at the moment I have other machines but the PC is only two years old.... bummer. I'll pop a graphics card in it tomorrow and see what happens. Doubt that is it but worth a shot. Thanks...
Update guys..... turns out it was a bad mobo. I'll have to drop a new one in. Gonna cost me about $100 to get it back up and running.
