ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that Plaxico Burress is on his way to New England to work out for the Patriots.
The Patriots already have a logjam at wide receiver, so this could simply be due diligence. If Burress latches on, both Deion Branch and Donte' Stallworth could be out. The three would likely be competing for one roster spot. Even if he sticks, the 35-year-old Burress wouldn't see more than a handful of snaps each game, likely working primarily in red-zone packages

padre31Luxury BoxWell, I've reached the point where I'd prefer seeing the younger Wr's get playing time as we have to develop them for when Tannehill takes the reigns, it will mean a less potent offense outside the hashes as they go through ojt, BUT our strength on offense is between the hashes anyway.

We've had high expectations for Wallace for a couple years now. I'm ready to see him deliver on the field. Can't play the potential card forever.

The Patriots are not expected to sign free agent WR Plaxico Burress.
The Pats did their due diligence by giving Burress a workout on Sunday, but this was never a good fit right now. They already have three red-zone threats in Rob Gronkowski, Brandon Lloyd and Aaron Hernandez. Burress would have been nothing more than the fourth wideout, battling with the likes of Jabar Gaffney for snaps. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Plaxico is now on the Patriots' "emergency list."
