Here we go again - - - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?sl..._not_expected_to_play_in_third_preseason_game "Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said he doesn't envision any playing time for fourth-string quarterback Pat White(notes) during the team's third preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons. When asked if White would play, Sparano had a one-word answer: "No."
Whites the odd man out and probably cut or traded. Penny is here as a player this year next I invasion thigy as the backup
I think they are basically telling him if he wants to stay on the team he has to change positions at this point.
just cut him. I support pat white and i do think he's getting a raw deal here, but regardless they're handling this wrong. Just cut him. He's not SO bad that he shouldn't be playing in the 4th qtr against guys who won't be in the league in 2 weeks. thats just stupid.
If you wont adjust to what his strengths are as an athlete/player why did you draft him? We'll see what happens....
Pat White's days as Miami Dolphins QB seem numbered http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/08/23/1788815/whites-days-in-miami-seem-numbered.html
See, this is what happens when the staff takes a flyer on high second round developmental pick and it backfires on him....next we'll be seeing a thread that is entitled, "Pat White takes a dump in locker room, vows to be the best dumper in the league !" Why so many threads for a guy that will be labeled "bust" in a few weeks ???
No where for him to go.....good kid. but didnt work out, whats done is done, we used a 2nd rounder, that sucks, but now lets move on
I was with you right up until you started talking about Pat taking a dump in the locker room. You lost me at that point This just seemed fitting in mutliple ways:
Just cut him. He obviously isn't in their plans. Give the guy a chance to hook up somewhere else or go to the CFL or MLB if he wants. It doesn't make sense to keep him here if he's not going to play. Chalk it up to a mistake and cut the ties.
Feel bad for the guy, even though this is mostly a regime failure. When you draft a QB in the second round and immediately change his throwing motion, you've already admitted your mistake. If I were Pat White, assuming he plays in the 4th game, I'd go back to my old motion and go for broke. If he still can, that is.
That's correct but there is a better chance that no one will pick him up anyway. So give him a playbook and tell him to do like Happy Gilmore. Go home, practice, and good luck again next year....
Yes, Tebow changed his after last season. I still think most people would agree trading up for Tebow was still a horrible decision, however. The Dolphins drafted Pat White as is. That is to say, presumably they liked his game. I understand the spread, I understand how his completion % can be so high in it, but you don't draft a guy in the second round and try to change him. You do that in the 4th or 5th round where it doesn't matter. Sometimes I'm not so sure that if the Wildpat had been succesful the Dolphins would've traded 2 picks for Brandon Marshall..
Just referring to the inordinate number of threads started on this subject...however, I'm as guilty as anyone about jumping into them...
Ummmm, they adjusted his mechanics some, but I don't recall his overall throwing motion being changed...either way, his skill hasn't translated to this level. Just another spread option guy that couldn't make it in the NFL. What we really don't know tho, is whether he was receptive to a position in change (like to WR, RB, returner, etc) or whether he resisted such a change. That kind of info has been muddled by White and by Sparano... At this point, the writing is on the wall here for him...elsewhere ?? Who knows...he'll probably go to the Patriots join Brady, blow the league away with his WCxQB skills and lead them to a title and Belicheat will get the credit for revolutionizing the league.
Pretty tough to change mechanics without changing a guy's motion. If you mean mechanics like footwork, how he holds that ball, etc., that's one thing, but that's not what they did IIRC. EDIT: Technically they did change those things I mentioned, in addition to other things. They had him throw from a higher arm slot and also changed his shoulder position on throws. That's definitely a new motion, and not one a guy is gonna get accustomed to quickly, if ever.
I say keep white through the final preseason game and use him for most of that useless 4th contest. Then cut.
I guess I didn't pay that much attention to what they were trying to do with him. I just don't remember them messing with him too much, but you're probably right... Still, for whatever reason, things just haven't gone well for the kid here. Who is at fault ?? Don't know...was it bad guessing on his talent by the staff ?? Was it his inability to adjust to a different position or his unwillingness to adjust to a different position and utilize the talent he does have ?? Was it just a matter of just another college spread QB that couldn't make the adjustment ??
This, he's a good kid and deserves a break somewhere. Likely will end up in the CFL or MLB and I wish him well in whichever place he lands. I will be very glad when he is gone if only for the sake of not having to sift through so freakin many Pat White threads, it's Ted Ginn & John Beck all over again!
IMO, yes. In college, as you know, speed is everything. Pat White thrived because he was often the fastest guy on the field, or fast enough to make a ton of plays. And, as you know, in the NFL EVERYONE has speed. Hell, the towel boys can run 4.5. Bottom line it was a luxury pick when we could not afford luxury. But, we'll move one. Lesson (hopefully) learned.
I couldn't agree more. I think he is a quality guy, and by the way be bulked up during the off-season, he's not afraid to work at improving either. I'd put him on the practice squad where he can get the extra attention that he needs. Penny's recovery is looking great but (due to age) he won't be around forever. When he does retire I hope they make him our QB coach and then they can pull PW out of moth balls. I think its possible for us to have the best of both worlds here and not completely lose that 2nd round pick or the time that we have invested in him. I think moving him to the practice squad would be a very logical move and I'd be a little disappointed if we didn't. he is very talented and has many raw skills but lacks maturation.
I don't think he's eligible for the PS... isn't one of the parameters less than 9 games of being active ?? If I'm right, he's not eligible...
