Grimes soliai carroll Keller. That's it. Go after Marquice Pouncey and the OT from KC. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
Grimes is a no brainer, even with his injury history. His price can be offset somewhat by cutting Patterson and having the rest of the CBs compete for positions. McKinnie should get a short term deal, and Clabo probably deserves at least some negotiations. Soliai and Starks are too expensive to keep together, IMO. We can only pick one... Or let both walk and move Odrick inside at last. Clemons, see ya.
This is an interesting look at Where this team really is and what we have to accomplish. It seems like a lot to get done.
every OL on that list can walk. I'd try to bring back Carroll, Starks, and Soliai. Clemons is a toss up to me. Grimes played excellent but if he's gonna be asking for the same amount of money as much younger guys like Alterraun Verner or Sam Shields, I don't know if I'm comfortable giving him that long term deal when he'll be 31. every other FA we have can bounce.
Odrick played inside this year for the most part, no? I agree about keeping only one of the DTs, and I say we let Starks walk b/c Odrick can play a similar role as the 3tech...
I don't have numbers on where Odrick took which amount of snaps. I would hope he played primarily inside, though.
I'm almost certain he played a massive majority of his snaps inside at the 3tech. I can remember a handful of plays with him at RDE, but with OV's emergence, it allowed us to slide Odrick back inside for the most part. Played in the 3DT rotation that we all had been clamoring for the year before, keeping the 3 fresh. That, coupled with Soliai missing a couple games... and he was predominantly inside this season.
Dead money 2014 Mike Wallace $23,800,000 Danelle Ellerbe $11,600,000 Cameron Wake $10,020,000 Phillip Wheeler $10,600,000 Dion Jordon $16,831,880 Brian Hartline $10,385,000 Reshad Jones $13,370,000 Translation for 2014 We Have $19,886,271
Anyone seen anything on Keller? Any reason to believe he can recover from that injury and be close to the player he was?
Which is why I scratch my head when people say Aponte is good at her job... Those are some ridiculous numbers at dead money and only one is above average, the others are average to mediocre.
I think people are looking at these figures wrong, that "dead money" is only a factor when the player is cut/traded. It has ZERO baring on anything else making it kind of irrelevant unless you are of the opinion one of those guys must go but can't due to THAT cap hit. It's by no means what they cost the team per year etc.
Well that is my point, some of those players, most especially the linebackers, should be let go but because there's 22 million tied to them, we have to endure another season of crap linebacker play. And I want Mike Wallace out of here more than anyone but knowing the dead money tied to him, we're stuck with him, for 2 more seasons.
Here is the 2014 Cap number per player (on right) Mike Wallace $23,800,000. --3.25M Danelle Ellerbe $11,600,000. --2.4M Cameron Wake $10,020,000 --5M Phillip Wheeler $10,600,000. --2.4M Dion Jordon $16,831,880. --3.7M Brian Hartline $10,385,000. --2.1M Reshad Jones $13,370,000. --1.6M All these guys are worth keeping anyway IMO. Yes, even Wheeler.
Wheeler and Ellerbe aren't even close to being worth their salaries. If not for cap ramifications I'd dump the both of them on the spot and earmark that saved money for the OL.
Definitely Wheeler if it were that easy, but 2.3 M isn't terrible to swallow for a backup LB. So upgrading that position needs to be a priority IMO.
according to a favorable contract, I would bring back: *Marlon Moore, WR Dustin Keller, TE ( if he returns healthy we have a serious attack along with Clay) *Paul Soliai, DT or Randy Starks Nolan Carroll or Chris Clemons *Brent Grimes, CB Clabo or McKinnie or Incognito I starred the indispensable & would find a place for any of the above if it was a franchise friendly deal
I think we need to let Soliai and Randy test the market, I think they're in for a rude awakening if they think they're going to get 7 million per season.
They are bad dead money wise but 2.4 million isn't that much. I know Wheeler would be fine if used correctly. I'm not sure about Ellerby or if they are compatible as a core.
I dont think you so much can look at how they played last year to judge whether or not they are worth it. Instead...look at how much it would cost to replace and upgrade them. Remember...a new player has to learn the system. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
mckinnie, grimes, carroll, soliai. that is all. move one of the cbs we drafted to clemons old spot (taylor most likely). get him on the field since we wasted a 2nd round pick on him. draft heavy on offensive linemen and take a rb somewhere in the middle rounds.
those are not the 2014 cap hits, you listed last year's cap numbers. Everyone knows Wallace's cap # shoots up to 17 mil this year. here are the top cap hits on the roster: Mike Wallace (23,800,000) ----- 17,250,000 Dannell Ellerbe (11,600,000) --- 7,425,000 Cameron Wake (10,600,000) --- 6,400,000 Philip Wheeler (10,600,000) ---- 6,400,000 Brian Hartline (10,385,000) ---- 6,210,000 Matt Moore (1,500,000) --------- 5,500,000 Dimitri Patterson (0) ------------ 5,400,000 Dion Jordan (16,831,880) ------- 4,675,524 Brandon Gibson (2,000,000) ---- 3,735,000 Reshad Jones (13,370,000) ----- 3,610,000 Brandon Fields (1,185,000) ----- 3,586,116 Ryan Tannehill (7,528,453) ----- 3,455,046 Mike Pouncey (2,946,267) ------ 2,946,266 Koa Misi (2,312,000) ------------- 2,328,000 Dimitri Patterson is basically a dead man walking, releasing him saves 5.4 mil in cap space, the new GM should make that move immediately. Cutting/trading Matt Moore saves you another 4 mil, so that's another option.
Well..you still need to gauge the replacement costs...can you upgrade two linebackers who already have one year worth of experience in the system..for the same or less? Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
Not sure how you arrived at those cap hit numbers but the real cap hit numbers are Wallace $17,250,000 Ellerbe $7,425,000 Wake $7,825,000 Wheeler $6,400,000 Hartline $6,210,000 Jones $3,610,000
