Chad Pennington is 33 years old. He signed a 2 year deal with us in the offseason. A bird in the hand (Penny) is better than two in the bush (Henne). Ireland should extend his contract.

I'm serious about this. I'm in love with Pennington. Now I understand what Mike Greenberg was talking about all these years. He's an exceptional QB. He's not young, but he's not old either. If we're in a 3-4 year plan, why not extend his contract a few more years and secure steady leadership when our team develops.

Of course I want Henne to succeed, but who knows if the guy is any good? We've waited 10 years to find a QB this good and I'm not ready to take the reigns away from him.

My #1 loyalty is to the Miami Dolphins. I want the best QB to start for us. I think we should extend Penny and keep him as the starting QB until he shows he can't do it anymore. If that means he's our QB for the next 4 years, so be it.

As good as Penny is playing....

Remember his injury history. We keep Pennington as long as he doesnt stunt Henne's growth. Once Henne is ready....we need to give him the ball. But now we can take our sweet ole time developing him though.

On another note...that almost forgotten QB Beck shouldnt be written off. Im kinda impressed by how he has dealt with this...and seems to be really looking at using Pennington as a teacher.

As was pointed out, you forgot the other bird in the Bush...in Beck.

Here's a scenario. Penny plays out this year and next, Beck takes over and becomes a TOP-Calibur QB...but only for a year..at which time we trade him for more than we gave up for him and Henne comes in and becomes an All-World QB.......

He would not stunt Henne's growth. It would be the opposite. Most QBs aren't lucky enough to have a guy like that to watch.

    The post funk era
Gardenhead Chad Pennington is only 32.

Like i have said before,If CP keeps playing like this CH won't get much of a chance to play here in any real games.

Agree. I don't know why some think that allowing a young QB to sit and learn for a couple of seasons does anything but help. Plus which as you posted learning behind Pennington - who already stated he felt teaching was part of his job - is a huge benefit.
That said, I have no problem with Pennington starting until someone can beat him out in a fair open competition.
The guy has an accumulated QB rating or 97.1 right now. By far the best QB play this team has seen since probably '93.

IMO, he's a top 10 QB in the league right now. Judging by these stats, I can't see how he isn't considered one right now.

    NFL Stats: by Player Category

I mentioned it earlier, but if we keep winning and Pennington keeps playing well, he has to garner votes for MVP. He is our Offensive MVP and the reason why our offense is what is.

Chad has really helped turn the team around. I hope he's still here when we win the Super Bowl in the coming years. He would have deserved it because he is key in the team getting back to excellence.
