Don't like either nickname. Call Vernon OV. It's short and simple and everyone knows who OV is. McCain should be simply called CMac. It's short and makes sense.
Would make more sense to call him TRM (The Rifleman) than YKY, (sounds like some millennium thing) but for me CMac is the most logical nick.
Well, I don't think when you're talking about the beer OV that anyone is gonna think you are talking about the football player OV, or vice versa. We could call him OV50 though, if it reduces the chances of confusion when you're in a state of drunkenness.
