    Agreed completely.

Just one of a number of moves that had me knowing we were in deep doo doo this year.
What Ireland did in the offensive backfield and OL leading up to the season was laughable.

Bell making this comment though shows some serious problems. Anyone still think were not the lead dog to get the #1 pick?

Reggie Bush has been used horribly, and the price tag of 5 million a year was ridiculous.

It showed a total lack of understanding.

I thought he was a good addition to a backfield that included another back. Of course..they got rid of Ricky, Ronnie, and made no attempt at Ahmad Bradshaw. This regime is stupid.

Fire everybody. Even the equipment managers.

Phillip Merling was a huge mistake. He was selected in the second round of the 2008 draft as the 32nd pick in the entire draft. He has never lived up to what the Dolphins thought they were getting when they drafted him. He has started very few games in his time with the Dolphins and he has been a below average defensive lineman throughout his tenure with the Dolphins. If he had been drafted in the 6th or 7th round or signed as a free agent out of college, perhaps his below average play would be deemed acceptable. But for a player drafted as highly as he was, I would agree that the drafting of Merling by this regime was a complete waste of a second round draft pick.

I'm still not 100% ready to give up on the guy. He's far over his ideal weight in college and that can make a big difference on a player. Jamie Nails in shape was a Pro Bowl guard. Out of shape he was out of the league. Merling will get a shot as 4-3 DE at 270lbs somewhere.

Actually I loved reggies response to bell. Wish the other players had that kind of introspective look at themselves instead of harping on the fans.

At around 270 someone like Belichick would use him in a similar role as the Pats used Willie McGinest 2000-20005, and possibly ignite his career.

Honestly, Bell needs to shut his pie hole at this point. Sure Reggie hasn't done a whole lot but I don't think this team has used him in any real way he can be effective. Bell and the rest of that incredibly bad defense need to take a long look in the mirror. They are the ones who managed to give up 15 points in 3 minutes to Tim Tebow. Until they can show they can hold a darn lead I could care less what any of them have to say about Bush and his comments.

Satele doesn't belong on that list. He was a big reason we had no success running inside b/c he didn't fit our offense.

Jake Long was a better pick than Ryan. Now that Matt's team is playing inconsistently and doesn't have good protection, he doesn't resemble the star franchise QB capable of carrying a team whom people made him out to be. He's sitting on a 79 QBR with 9 TDs to 8 INTs and zero playoff wins. If Ryan were in Miami (which would be WITHOUT Jake Long) he would've looked mediocre if not killed due to lack of protection, and we'd be talking about how we should've drafted Long instead. We can't practice hindsight using Ryan's Atlanta stats & wins b/c we're not the Falcons; we have to project how he would've done here, in this offense, WITH Henning, Sparano, and Lee where he'd likely be discussed as a #1 pick bust.

LOL, theyre both right. Bush does hasnt fulfilled expectations and the team does stink. Bush doesnt have a terrible YPC but he doesnt find the end zone either and Daboll isnt using him enough in the passing game. He should be splitting out wide or in the slot.

Matt Moore is in for a long day. The NYG are T-2nd in the league in sacks and have been using JPP-Osi Umenyiora, and Tuck on the DL with Tuck at DT quite a bit and Kiwanuka rotating between DL/OLB. Pierre-Paul is an animal. Long will be fine vs one of them but the rest of the OL? This is gonna be a clinic.

Plus the NYG ground game has been struggling quite a bit...theyre looking for a team they can bludgeon for 200 yards on the ground. That would be Miami.

Maybe he did? We dont know hat was said in the locker room after Taylor made his comments to the press...

And yet, as sick as this may be, I hope he does. Heaven forbid we screw up Suck For Luck at this point. I mean WTF, we're already awful so we may as well reap the reward for sucking so much.

You would think that being granted a central premise of this administration failing that Omar could put together something worthwhile. Alas.

    25. Jason Taylor's treatment- In no way related to their failure, trading Taylor for a 2nd and getting him back was an absolute coup, and the biggest injury Taylor has caused us is his play this year.

    24. Constant turnover of the roster- His example is what? Erik Walden, maybe the worst starting 3-4 OLB in the league?

    23. Passing on Michael Vick- You don't think there were, you know, other issues?

    19. Quarterback coach woes- Karl Dorrell as a QB coach wasn't a mistake. Chad Henne very clearly advanced in quite a few areas that were previously weaknesses.

    16. The inexplicable release of Matt Roth- The failure here is Omar Kelley and Co.'s. Decent investigative journalism would have explained it. Connecting the dots isn't hard given he demanded a trade very quickly in Cleveland because of his contract, then tanked midway through his second year, and was allowed to walk to minimal interest as a free agent. There's a problem here.

    15. Giving up on Samson Satele- He's not very good. He's got nice mobility to get out to the second level if uncovered on an outside zone heavy team, but that's about his one quality point. Our Center play overall has been better between Grove, Berger, and Pouncey than it would be with Satele.

    13. Franchising Paul Soliai, making him the highest paid player in Dolphins history at $12.4 million, and failing to sign him to a long-term deal?- Uhh, given how he's played this year outside of the Broncos game? No, it's absolutely not a mistake to have not signed him long term.

    4. Parade of blown second-round draft picks- Pat White and John Beck? John Beck counts?

    3. Jake Long over Matt Ryan- It was never a mistake, and everytime Matt Ryan plays a game this year it's looking less and less like it possibly could have been one.

    2. Not acquiring competition for Chad Henne in 2011- What was the correct decision in retrospect?

It was a mistake. He's having an off year, but has still led his team to a winning record thus far. He's made a much bigger impact for the Falcons than Jake Long will ever make with us. Matt Ryan has led his team to multiple playoff trips in his short career. Meanwhile our offensive line is garbage, despite having Jake Long.

You're giving Matt Ryan credit for his team's success when it's not at all appropriate. Quarterback is more important than Left Tackle, but there's no way you can justify a quality game manager is worth #1 overall, especially against an elite Left Tackle.

Matt Ryan isn't having an off-year, they've taken the training wheels off. This was the year he was supposed to stop managing games and instead start taking them over, and he's failed miserably. He's put up some nice quarterback ratings in his career, but it's a short, high percentage game based on the running game putting him in managable positions. He's basically been a healthier Chad Pennington with a better surrounding cast thus far in his career.

    simple facts:

Jake Long will be in the hall of fame.

Matt Ryan has no shot in hell at the hall of fame.

Matt Ryan as a quarterback impacts a game much more than Jake Long.

Passing on a guy that makes a bigger impact is a mistake. (I hated Matt Ryan)

Matt Ryan is hugging the top ten QB plateau. That is good enough.

Matt Ryan hovering just outside the top 10 in QB Rating for two seasons as a starter doesn't make him a top 10 QB, better than Jake Long, or worthy of #1 overall. His story isn't over by any means, and like schmolioot mentioned he can turn it around, but right now, but if he continues to perform like he has performed through his pro career, he's not worth it.

One thing to consider might be what is the play of Marc Columbo valued at? How much impact has his play impacted the play of the quarterback? I'm just saying you have to take things like that into account. Imagine if we were still getting the same level of play at LT that we had for a great deal of time before Jake Long got here.

People want to get hung up on how good Matt Ryan is or how good Jake Long is. The fundamental mistake is thinking that you take an offensive tackle before a quarterback when you're rebuilding a team. If there is a QB even close to being worth your top pick you take him. It's the most important position on the field. Not left tackle. I don't know why people want to give this regime a free pass on that one. Notice that even during this down year Matt Ryan is still at least throwing more TDs than INTs. A lot of people called Chad Pennington a quality game manager. I'd take a QB at his level any day of the week over a left tackle when building a team. Note our QBs getting destroyed this season despite Jake Long's presence on the line.

So what? We're 0-6 and our QBs are getting killed anyway. Why not take an offensive lineman at number 32 overall? You know instead of that slob Phillip Merling.

Well this is simple really...to make us stop debating Matt Ryan or Jake Long becomes simple...

Draft Andrew Luck. Boom...Jake Long and Mike Pouncey helps right away. YES, Luck would have to live up to expectations...but 2 or 3 years from now we could look back on the mistakes of this regime and turn it into a positive if we do get Luck and he does become a Top QB. Then we can say 7-9, 7-9, 0-16/1-15/2-14 was worth it.

That's a recipe for intense, unmitigated draft failure. This isn't Madden, you grade players and pick the ones that grade out, you don't draft positions you need if they're pretty close or whatever. That's how Dave Wannstedt drafted. That's how the Dolphins ended up with Eddie Moore over Anquan Boldin.

Matt Ryan, as it stands right now, has not been worth the #1 overall pick. You can find players who are Matt Ryan good much more cheaply, and the fact that the Dolphins have not doesn't mean you throw good resources after bad.

Matt Ryan was not a reach at the top of the draft in 2008. That's all that matters. Right now doesn't matter unless some of the GMs had a nice window into the future. Thanks for the Madden reference, I needed a good laugh. The problem with Eddie Moore wasn't that Wanny drafted a LB instead of a WR. It was that Eddie Moore sucked and no other team would have taken him anywhere near that spot. We're not talking a spot or two here, he had no business going in that round at all. That's a ridiculous comparison to try to say that drafting Matt Ryan at the top would have been comparable to the Eddie Moore reach.

Having a good QB is worth a number one pick. Matt Ryan's career is still young. Look at his career numbers, they are not bad. I know a lot of you really need for him to fail to rationalize Ireland and Parcells' 2008 blunder though.

Consider that Matt Ryan is on pace to be sacked 41 times this season, which is one less than his last TWO seasons combined. His qbr is at 79.5 this year. He seems to be a lesser quarterback due to the offensive line not being as strong as prior years. Yet he has the most talent at other positions since he started (with Julio Jones coming in). Worthy of being a starting qb in this league? Sure. Worthy of being the #1 overall pick? Nope. He needs his offensive line to make him better. Elite quarterbacks certainly aren't as dependant on them. If I'm drafting a quarterback #1 overall, I'd expect better. I'd expect elite.

When the QB position on your team has been a black hole for the past decade I have to disagree with that sentiment. I also don't think a QB who has thrown 33 more TDs than interceptions in his first 3+ seasons in the league is 'average'. And this whole statement means nothing because nobody knows if QBs will be good, bad, or 'average' before they're drafted. Matt Ryan was pretty highly regarded before the draft.

QB's of Ryan's ability can be acquired for less than the #1 overall pick.

He's not average because of his TD-INT ratio. He is average because I can name 15 QBs that I would take over him. Tony Romo has 60 more TDs than INTs. That doesn't make him a great QB.

Just a starting QB who is in the top half of the league is worth a first-overall pick when you don't have a franchise-type passer. Anything better than that is gravy.

Andrew Luck...they should make the team with the first choice in 2012 forfeit another 1st round pick to get him, he's so ridiculously worth it.

Well you should be happy because we have an elite left tackle now. We're winless and have no QB but hey we got an elite player with that number one pick! I bet no other winless team is as good at left tackle as we are. I mean nobody should worry about having a decent QB, if the perfect value QB doesn't fall to you at just the right second round pick then no worries. A player's value in the draft is relative to the other guys coming out of college with him. Would Matt Ryan be a good pick at number one overall in 2004, or 2012? No not really. Is it a good pick in 2008 when you're rebuilding and you need a real QB? Yep.

None of those 15 were likely available in the 2008 draft, unfortunately. So the smart move is to take Matt Ryan because you need a real QB and that is what he is. He's not rewriting the record books but he is a good NFL QB. We could be beginning the Pat Devlin era soon and people are actually saying Ryan isn't good enough to be around here. Amazing.

Name one QB as good or better than him that we could have obtained between 2008 and now. Through FA or a later draft pick. There might be one. I'm thinking it over.

Chad Pennington's 2008 season was better than any season of Matt Ryan's.

Regardless, there were countless opportunities to get competent QBs for significantly less than Matt Ryan since 2008. The fact that this administration has failed to do so is inexcusable, but that doesn't mean they should have drafted Matt Ryan.

I'm not sure who they could have taken. Matt Ryan is better than 'competent'. I've criticized them for not finding a way to get a first round guy last April. The jury will be out for a while on whether anybody we could have landed in the last draft is going to be better than Matt Ryan. You can't build a franchise around Penny, he's just too fragile. If he wasn't we wouldn't be having this conversation. Actually he'd probably still be a Jet if he wasn't so fragile.
