And everyday that John Jerry continues driving down the fast lane to Bust City that pick infuriates me even more.
Agreed, I like Fasano, and am basing on his production and blocking. I would love to get a 2nd TE who can do anything, block or catch, better than what we had last year. I believe that will free up Fasano to do more than he has. The guy most definitely has talent. Hopefully, Daboll will use that a lot more than we have done in the past.
Bc he'll need a new deal and CAR might not want to get to the point where they have to franchise him? restructure/extension is what I meant to say.
We had the need at RG though, as evidenced by our interior performance last year and the desire to move Carey there this year. Yea, Jerry may never work out and that will suck for sure if it happens, but passing on a TE there for an OL was hardly the terrible decision I see it made out to be sometimes. Passing on Phil Loadholt (who could have played RT and allowed Carey to move inside) for Pat White perhaps was a far worse move.
Tony Moeaki, Jimmy Graham, Aaron Hernandez and Dennis Pitta were all taken more than TEN PICKS after we took John Jerry. Does John Jerry even make this team a year later? Simply infuriating
Well, I thought it was a terrible decision at the time and I don't think I was alone. I'll have to go back and look at who we had on the OL at that time but it didn't seem like a huge need. I believe Shawn Murphy was really being talked up at that time. There were alot of guys we should have picked instead of Pat White, namely anybody else.
I still think Jimmy Graham becomes the ebst long term, but they are all good, and would provide exactly what we need. Tony Moeaki got a huge write up by Peter King this morning and he has been a stud in Chiefs camp.
Everyone in the Nfl knows we are strong in the DE position .They can wait for the cuts or trade for for one of them .The most likely candidates for a trade are Merling and Starks .The Dolphins may be making Merling available as trade bait but they may switch Merling for Starks if it comes to closing a deal.Starks actually has a track record in the NFL.
this x10000 Even if you don't need to make a huge splash at the TE position, getting someone like Greg Olsen for a 4th is a no brainer value wise. Give the Bears a 3rd rounder for all I care, the 3rd rounder has a 50-50 shot of being productive.
2009 second-round pick Richard Quinn was waived/injured on Monday by Denver. He will revert to injured reserve if no team claims him. McDaniels traded up to get Quinn, who was known as a blocking tight end well below the draft radar. He didn’t make much of a impact in two seasons (even as a blocking tight end), but was expected to have a decent role under John Fox before hurting his knee two weeks ago. Quinn’s rookie deal ends after 2012. It wouldn’t be a total shock if someone claimed him, with the plan to stash him on I.R. later. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/08/22/richard-quinn-waivedinjured-by-broncos/
So... are the lack of responses to this idea confirmation that I'm a crazy person? lol Or does anyone think the Lions might be willing to part with TS?
Moeaki was a guy at Iowa who I thought had more talent than Dallas Clark when he played there, but couldn't stay healthy. That guy is going to be good if he can stay off the IR.
I was surprised, and disappointed, we did not go after Todd Heap. I thought he would be a very nice fit, and cost us nothing but money.
This is what I don't understand. You have 10000 internet hacks on teams message boards that knew we had a big issue behind Fasano...yet they didn't realize that? I wonder if they tried to get some body like a Shockey but fell short. Only thing I can think of, is maybe they wanted to trade for one and wanted to show case Merling this preseason prior to that.
Purely going off what my buddy, a Lions fan just said, but he said Scheffler played a pretty significant amount of time as their #2 TE last year. Said he wasn't sure if Detroit would be in the trade market though. Best I got.
i doubt we would move starks for a #2 TE, when we already denied him to denver in the orton trade talks, if there is any truth to it, that he really was involved
I don't think they do simply because they just traded for him two off-seasons ago I believe. I could be wrong but it doesn't seem likely.
Ya, they did trade for him, but they didn't give up much for him. Gave up a castoff of their own in Ernie Sims, and even got a 7th round pick back in the deal. Since they didn't have a lot invested into him, I thought they may be more willing to part ways with him. It would put Merling back in a 4-3 defense as well...
I thought that Shockey and Olsen were pretty natural fits, stretch the field guys from the U. Shockey seemed disappointed that we didn't go after him harder (if at all, I don' t remember) in FA, Olson cost what, a 3rd? Maybe not such a bad deal, we'll see. If we wait until next year I like Mike Ragone from Notre Dame. Dude can run.
Scheffler played 417 snaps, 45 catches for an 8.4 avg, 4.3 YAC, 1 TD and 3 drops, not a blocker. A Hernandez caught 45 passes for a 12.5 avg, 6.7 YAC, 6 TDs, and NINE drops. Likely Brady's fault. Fasano is not all that bad.
Hell yes. Jerry has the stink of bust all over him, and I don't mean lady parts. I hope that I'm wrong.
It's like Jeff Ireland comes in to work one day and is listening to his coaches drone on conference call and something catches his ear, so he stops playing minesweeper long enough to ask "Wait, WHO do we have at backup Tight End? Who are those guys? Why wasn't I told we needed help there?!"
You know, Merling's lost a bunch of weight. I don't know what he's down to but he's looking pretty trim. Green Bay just lost Frank Zombo to a broken scapula. Zombo is light but he's not a great mover, they have him at OLB because of his prowess against the run. Just curious, always thought Merling's best shot at redemption in this league would be for him to move to OLB.
