http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/pgStory?contentId=8339122&MSNHPHMA#sport=NFL&photo=8337138 STAY AWAY!!!!! You got beat out by Ben Stiller last time you were in this town, Brett!
I absolutely don't want him here, I don't see Ireland giving up picks for him. But if he got released and signed here, and played two years. I wouldn't burn him in Effigy or anything.
I would absolutely hate it. It would be no different IMO as the situation Green Bay is in right now. We have 3 youg QBs, which all 3 will have a chance to win the starting job this season. We don't need to sign another friggin QB who will negatively affect the fragile psyche of these young guys. Its time for us to move on toward the future, and we need to stop trying to fill the most important position in the game with a guy who is only going to be committed to the team for 1-2 years, which nobody can really say he'll be committed to fully anyway.
Yeah, that's kind of where I stand. I don't see this move making much sense, but the idea of Favre in a Dolphins uniform is exciting nonetheless...
Yep. Alex Marvez trying to sell an article alright.. Favre will want to play with a possible contender. Why on earth would he leave GB just to come and play with KIDS...
Yep, beyond why it just dosen't make sense for us, it makes much, much less sense for Favre to want to come here.
They don't want him. I know, seems simplistic, right? Makes sense though. They have committed to a Quarterback that has patiently waited for his time and it is finally here, only to see Favre come in and possibly take it away from him. They need to move on. Confidence in Rodgers abilities goes downhill if you see Favre make a comeback to that team. Many of us predicted that Favre would make a headline at one point this season, no one knew it would be in the off-season though. He has come out asking for his unconditional release but he is not even on the team. Hell, he's not even in the league right now. He has to be reinstated (unless he has already been, without me knowing it). The guy first needs to file his papers to get back in the league, then he can grant his wishes. The Packers have denied his wish as of now. They better hope that he chooses not to come back because of the denial. Why? Because he could file a grievance on them. Under league policy, they have to grant him his wishes. If they choose not to, they will be forced to release him which is where all of this started. Back on the Rodgers situation, if I am him, I ask for a trade. Sounds wild because he is the starting Quarterback by default right? Well, every throw, every move he makes will be scrutinized by Green Bay fans. Yesterday at a golfing event, Rodgers attempted to give a young kid an autograph and the kid refused it. One other note is that the Packers have stated that if he was to come back, he would NOT be a backup to Rodgers so that only leads to a Quarterback competition. Favre would win it. We may see Favre starting for GB again. This situation is a mess
Do you guys think Henne/McCown/Beck could win more games in 2008 or 2009 then Favre could at QB? If you do, you're smoking the same thing Ricky was.
But how many of them could actually beat out Favre? Coming in super late to a new offensive style and philosophy would be tough and definitely set him back. But the man is head and shoulders above anything that's been here the last decade. And unlike Miami, Green Bay has a young QB that actually looked good in the regular season. He's actually shown (a little) something. Granted this would not be happening if Favre hadn't changed his mind (again) in March. But they have reason to be encouraged. It's not always a bad idea to bring in a vet to start for a year or two while the youngin(s) learns. It played out perfectly in Cincy that way. Jon Kitna played at a very high level for a year, then ceded to Carson Palmer. Not saying Favre will be here, has interest or that it's necessarily something we should do. Just playing a little devil's advocate.
Here's the problem. It's a numbers game. People will call for McCown to be given his walking papers and Favre to be brought in instead of McCown for the following reasons: Josh McCown is here as a caretaker until either Beck or Henne can play. Maybe two years at most. So would Favre be. McCown's career stats: Attempts 1,052. Completions 609. Completion % 57.9. Yards 6,582. Average yds/completion, 6.3. TD 35. TD percentage 3%. Interceptions 40. Interception percentage 4%. Career QB rating 71.6. QB rating last season 69.4. Favre's career stats: Attempts 8,758. Completions 5,377. Completion % 61.4. Yards 61,665. Average yards/completion, 7. TD 442. TD percentage 5%. Interceptions 288. Interception percentage 3%. Career QB rating 85.7. QB rating last season 95.7. Assuming Favre wanted to come here, and I admit it makes no sense for Favre, which one would you rather have starting for you while Beck and Henne get ready?
Brett Favre was a top-5 QB last season...there are lots of teams that will give up a lot to get that kind of talent. He could take a team like Houston or the Jets and make them a Super Bowl contender.
I dont think Favre will come here, just because the offense we want to run isn't going to require a quarterback that wants to throw the ball 30+ times per game
I don't understand why Favre would want to come to Miami. He has to know that he would be wasting his time as the Fins aren't anywhere close to the Super Bowl. These rumors seems to me to be just that rumors.
The only reason why these rumors are out here is because of the Taylor talk to Miami back in like May/June. Miami has the best player to offer, but I don't see Parcells going for Favre while he's in a rebuilding mode. If Bill wanted to bring in a Veteran QB, he would've done so already like he did with the Jets prior to the '98 season (bringing in Testaverde).
Don't forget about Bledsoe in Dallas. It just seems to me that any free agent/available QB the media (ESPN specifically) links them to Miami. Favre should stay retired I think if Green Bay doesn't want him back because that is the best team he has to win with (I still think they're crazy for not taking him back for Aaron Rodgers).
Rumor has it that Vikings GM Rick Spielman had these words to say when asked about the Packers price tag of a first round pick: IS THAT ALL?
The Vikings would give up a first and it would be a good trade. If Favre goes to Minny it's a 2 way race with Dallas for the NFC
Have not seen this posted anywhere. Is there anyway Favre is sick of playing in the cold weather. The mystique of winning every game under 40 degrees is gone and he did lose that Ice Bowl game versus NYG last year
I'd be ok with Favre playing here. So long as he plays without helmet like in that "photoshopped" pic. So he'll get injured first game due to a concussion without helmet, we now get to say again that a Dolphins QB owns the career TD and yardage records, the media hubbub dies down again, and Favre gets taken down a notch. Win-win.
Well, as Salguero said in today's article...if we haven't identified our QB of the future by the end of this season it will be considered a bust again, regardless of the record. It would be even more catastrophic if we have Favre as our QB at the end of this year. Talk about a team with no direction...This is one of the main reasons I don't think Tunaland will even consider Favre here...
While I agree that Favre to Minnesota makes sense, for a first round pick is nothing but foolish IMO. For a player that may quit at anytime if he's not 100% into playing, I'm not giving up anything other than a conditional pick (based on his performance this year).. and it wouldn't be higher than a 5th!
No way the Troika is giving the Pack a high draft pick for Favre, let alone a first, even if Favre wanted to come here. The only thing that would make sense, and would in fact be a fair trade because it would be for a player with similar abilities who also wants to play only one, maybe two years, is JT. Oherwise, pass (no pun intended).
