Oh, almost forgot, Allen played terrible Sunday http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp...most-forgot-allen-played-terrible-sunday.html
^^ I have a problem with this part of the article Wasn't the 55 yard play to Jackson the one that Tony Dungee broke down on the Sunday Night Football Pregame show? The play where Bell bit on the play action fake and thus was out of position to give 'over the top' help? In cover 2 man the corner plays a trail technique ( he trails the WR and the QB has to throw it 'over the top' to the WR to complete it ). If the ball is thrown 'over the top' then the safety is supposed to be there, that is the SAFETIES ASSIGNMENT. So since Bell bit on the Play Action he was not there to make the play, and thus the 55 yard completion. It was Bell's fault, but lets hang that on Allen... nice work Salgero. EDIT: Here is Cover 2 Man explained for those that care: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irNYNOtJUFU"]YouTube - Cover 2 Man Defense explained[/ame]
To his credit if he didn't read the article all the quote says is "Allen" it says nothing about Jason or Will.
I honestly am not sure he is our best corner. After watching the first 3 games he has been pretty brutal IMO with bad coverage, falling down at least once a game, and playing WAY too far off his man. And to make it worse when he is in off coverage he has started his backpedle the second the ball is snapped which leaves him way out of position if the offense throws a bubble screen. Which Indy did for the winning TD. That was Allens man and the play was made because he played that down with horrible, horrible technique. I have been very, very surprised with how much his play has fallen off this year because we have all gotten used to how solid he is.
Allen sucked against tall receivers last year. Figured that's what Smith was for, but I was surely mistaken...
In time, you're right. But for now you go with the experience over the height. That'll change soon tho. As for Will Allen, he's a good player. He's getting older by the day with Vontae and Smith on the team, but he's still a player.
Imo, the criticism is warranted......he needs to step up, or else that tingle hes feeling might turn into a full blown breakout.
