Beats undersized Haye, who got swallowed up by FB's. I'd sign E but he's not a player.

Rams would like to welcome 3 new players.

SS Mike Brown, C Geoff Hangartner, and DE Victor Adeyanju.

We feel Mike Brown is a very talented player, Injuries have hampered him some during his career. Brown brings leadership to the secondary and only missing 1 game last season we feel he will play a vital role in the resurgent Rams.

We missed out on Jason Brown sweepstakes but we got a very good young talent. Geoff Hangartner Started 8 games last season fort he Panthers when Ryan Kahlil and did a fantastic job. We feel his ready to be a starting Center.

We resign Victor Adeyanju adds depth to the Defensive line. We really feel he is coming to his own as a player.

The Houston Texans would like to welcome Punter Reggie Hodges. Hodges comes to the Texans from the New York Jets. While Hodges doesn't have the strongest leg in the game (42.8 average yards per punt) he is really accurate having put 14 punts inside the 20 yard line in only 12 games.

The Houston Texans would also like to welcome back, Kicker Kris Brown. Brown took a pay-cut of about $1,000,000 to remain with the Texans and he looks forward to improving on last year; when he made 29 of 33 field goal attempts (87.9%), with a long of 53. He also was a perfect 37 of 37 on extra points.

    Welcome!!!

The Cincinnati Bengals quietly signed former #1 pick Alex Smith to a one-year contract, sources report.

Smith missed all of 2008 with a shoulder injury. However, the Bengals checked Smith's medical background thoroughly and he passed his physical.

Bengal Offensive Coordinator Charlie Joyner believes Smith still has the tools to succeed, and is in the right environment to do so.

Smith's contract, rumored to be close to league minimum, has to be considered a value for a former #1 pick and former NFL starting quarterback.

Smith isn't expected to challenge for a starting position behind Carson Palmer.

In a completely unnecessary move, the Washington Redskins are happy to announce that they signed third string quarterback Joey Harrington to a one year deal worth $300,000. When asked why he made the move, the Redskins GM said "look I am not here to answer questions. The guy is a player. He plays the game. Our team would literally not be complete with out him. His nickname is Joey Heisman. That is way cooler than what the guys in the office call me. If you don't mind I need to go back to overpaying players".
Joey Harrington was unavailable for comment because he is currently away making an appearance on the Rachel Ray show.

Looks like Yeremiah Bell is now a Bill as soon as the safety thread is updated.

Glad to have a run stuffer who can play the pass some, and it really makes my traded Whitner easier to swallow. Especially since the Whitner deal in turn allowed me to get Calvin Johnson.

So the Bills are proud to welcome Mr. Bell into their secondary, where he can terrorize his old team twice a year.

The Chiefs welcome Matt Wilhelm to the fold after not getting him in trade talks with the San Diego Chargers for a 5th Round draft pick, the Chiefs are happy to acquire him at the discounted price of $450,000. Matt brings veteran leadership and experience starting at middle linebacker in a 3-4 scheme as well as calling San Diego defensive plays.

    Bengals Bolster Run Game

CINCINATTI, Ohio (AP) -- The Cincinatti Bengals continue thier offseason makeover, this time focusing on the run game by signing Travis Minor to a one-year deal and completing a trade with the Minnesota Vikings for Chester Taylor. Both moves happened late Sunday night.

Taylor has most recently served as the primary backup to Adrian Peterson in Minnesota, but he has been a solid player when gien a chance. Last year in relief of Peterson Taylor rushed for nearly 400 yards. His best season came in 2006 in which he rushed for over 1200 yards. He also owns a career 4.3 yard per carry average.
Travis Minor was most recently been a member of the St. Louis Rams, and has also played for the Miami Dolphins. The Bengals hope to use him in a limited capacity as a pass receiving threat out of the backfield, and also hope that he will help contribute on special teams. Minor also went to college at Florida State.

The Bengals front office was not immediately available for comment.

The jacksonville jaguars would like to take this opportunity to welcome the newest addition to our team....Corner back Fernando Bryant. Bryant played briefly for the steelers last year, the season before started all 16 games for detroit finishing with 69 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 13 passes defended. He will most definitely help with depth in Jacksonville's defensive backfield.

The Falcons agreed to terms with two players and also add a pro-bowler through trade. TJ Houshmanzadeh was acquired from the Bengals for a 2nd round pick. Giving QB Matt Ryan a nice target to go along with recently signed TE Bo Scaife. The offense looks like it will have a very productive year behind the running game an now a strong aerial attack. Also, added was P Sam Koch formally with the Ravens. The Falcons are very happy with their additions and hope to add a few more pieces before the draft.

The Bears would like to welcome three possible starters to the great city of Chicago.

Kerry Collins, who showed last year that he could still play at a very high level, will compete with Kyle Orton for the starting quarterback job.

Heath Evans will be the starting fullback where his soft hands will go well with offensive cordinater Dennis Greene's west coast offense.

    Chargers Add Four...

Tonight, the San Diego Super Chargers announce the following player acquisitions, each one vital to our team’s 2009 season:

Strong Safety – Jermaine Phillips. The former Buc...This is to date the marquee free agent signing for us. Jermaine is a heck of a strong safety. Noted as a ferocious hitter, at 6ft 2in, 220 pounds, he will add a much needed pop to our safety group. Teaming next to free safety, Eric Weddle, I truly believe we have the best safety tandem in the league. Jermaine “only” cost us 2.5 million vs the cap. That’s a number we were prepared to go much higher with, as Jermaine is rated by many pro scouting services as the #1 safety available this free agency period.

Quarterback – Billy Volek. We welcome back Billy as our #2 quarterback behind Phillip Rivers. At $700k, we shaved 1.8million off his cap number from when we released him. That was just too high of a number in today’s cap constrained world. There is no doubting Billy’s ability to win should the need arise. Look no further than the playoff game just over a year ago where he lead us to a win at Indianapolis.

Fullback – Terrelle Smith. The former Cardinal... Rated by many pro scouting services as the #2 fullback available in this year’s free agency class. Terrelle is known as a ferocious lead blocker. This is something we felt needed to be addressed since the departure of Lorenzo Neal. I trust that T will pave the way for our running game this year. In fact, since we signed him to the league minimum $300k, we have inserted a clause in T’s contract that stipulates he will receive $10,000 for each linebacker that he knocks out. That’s football… the Charger way. Performance based pay at its finest....

This play speaks for itself... helped set the tone in the Cardinals shocking victory over the Panthers...

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWUpbdSutCM"]YouTube - Terrell Smith Massive Hit[/ame]

Nose Tackle / Defensive End – Fred Evans. The former 2006 draft pick of the Miami Dolphins, Fred played with the Vikings last season and filled in admirably towards the end of the season when they were without their Williamseseses. In fact Minnesota thought so much of Fred that they tendered him at the restricted free agent level of a second round pick. However, due to a little known clause in his GM league contract, he became a free agent. In essence, we feel like we got a second round pick a month and a half early.

    Welcome aboard guys.

Head Coach John Harbaugh had this to say.
New Defensive Coordinator Greg Mattison was quoted as saying:
Shirley was a 5th round pick of the Bengals in 2008 before being cut this offseason. Coach Harbaugh had this to say about him:
For now, the Ravens appear to be done with the free agent market and are ramping up efforts in the trade market as they have several players that should garner interest.

    Bengals Quietly add 3 ...

The Cincinnati Bengals would like to announce the addition of three more players to an overhauled roster.

Travis Minor was signed late yesterday for the league minimum. Minor is expected to backup primary RB Chester Taylor and be a pass catching target out of the backfield. He'll also be expected to help contribute on special teams.
Monty Beisel, most recently with the Arizona Cardinals, is a veteran linebacker who we feel can be this team's special team's ace, a la Larry Izzo. Beisel isn't the most physically gifted guy but he has a high motor and will also help to spell folks at ILB. Beisel's contract was not immediately disclosed but it was believed to be for the league minimum.

After losing Shayne Graham in free agency, the Bengals have turned to former Panther John Kasey. Kasey holds the single game NFL record for consecutive field goals made of 46 yards or longer. He's also kicked 11 game-winning field goals in his career.

    Buccaneers sign DT Rocky Bernard

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed former Seahawk DT Rocky Bernard, continuing an offseason process to bolster the DT position. After Haye and Hovan collapsed as the season went on, the Buccaneers were unable to stop the run or give pressure up front to free up Gaines Adams. The 6'3 308lb lineman comes in with 55 tackles and 4 sacks, roughly 2x as many as either Hovan or Haye and 4x more sacks than the two combined.

    Smith Joins Bengals; Slams Steelers

The Cincinnati Bengals completed their overhaul of their offensive line by signing Marvel Smith, formerly of the World Champion Pittsburg Steelers. Smith is a versatile lineman that can start at either guard or right tackle for the Bengals, though he is expected to play G in the Bengal's Air Palmer attack.

Smith briefly discussed his new team as well as his former team in remarks released earlier today.

Smith has been considered one of the most important linemen to Pittsburgh’s successful running attack, and was elected to the AFC Pro Bowl in 2005.

    49ers Sign Jamal Lewis
    3:20 a.m. EST March 4, 2009

Former Ravens & Browns running back, Jamal Lewis, has agreed to a one year, $800,000 contract with the San Francisco 49ers. Lewis, 29, spent last season on a sub-par Cleveland Browns team while posting his 7th 1,000 yard rushing season. Lewis is expected to share carries with incumbent Frank Gore and former Seahawk Julius Jones.

When asked about the signing, 49ers general manager, GridIronKing34, had this to say:
Asked about Jamal Lewis' age and injury history, Mike Singletary addressed those issues in a press conference:
Lewis will look to add to his career numbers of over 10,000 yards rushing and 82 touchdowns in 2009 in San Francisco.
