Maggette is gone. Resigning Brand will happen soon enough. If it comes down to resigning Maggette or getting Davis I'd much rather have Davis because he plays a more important position, one the Clippers were desperate at. SG should be alright between Mobley and Gordon - I hope. PF they'll have Brand with Kaman at C so I dont think it's a question mark. SF and SG could be, but if Gordon/Mobley can hold there own and Thornton can build on what he did the 2nd half last year they could be alright.
I think they want to bring him back. We'll see if they can afford him, but coming off his injury I cant imagine him getting big $ or a lot of years.
Maybe. I think he won't have a choice to receive large money because of his horrific injury. I think they could resign him to something similar to what New York offered Duhon (2 yrs/$6 mllion).
I dont know you cant really tell what is going to happen we have a bunch of good young players that can be leaders.
Yeah, they do have a bunch of young players. They can be good if they develop. Lets say in five years they're lineup could look something like this (basing it off of their current roster of young talents.): PG - Rajon Rondo/ Pruitt SG - J.R. Giddens/Tony Allen (FA) SF - Bill Walker/? PF - Glenn Davis/Powe C - Kendrick Perkins/Erden Rondo and Perkins are already settled in and will only get better. Giddens has character problems so we don't know how he ends up. Walker has injury issues so we don't know about him either. We'll have to see further development of Davis to determine his future as a starter. Off of that list, I'm not sure who can be a leader.
Eh, I think we need a defensive SF more than a PG. We've managed to handle guys like Tony Parker well with Fish on the roster and Farmar developing. Vlad and Luke aren't good defenders.
I'm ok with Luke. He's got good passing skills and if he can develop his confidence, has a pretty nice 3 pt shot. And he's a glue guy. It's Vlad that annoys me. He has a good game once in a while but he's just awful on D.
Adding Davis makes the Clippers instantly relevant http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=adande_ja&page=davisclipper_080702 Really happy for the Clippers. I have never been a big fan of them but always liked them. Btw, I really like his glasses.(not joking)
Davis is a huge gain for the Clips considering they ran Smush Parker, Brevin Knight, and Dan Dickau. I'm amazed those three are still even in the league.
Smush Parker got a job after the Heat? Sterling must be desperate these days, I mean, realllll desperate.
It's less of a long shot than it was 48 hours ago. At first, I thought that the Magic's play for Maggette was akin to drawing to an inside straight. But then Baron Davis' surprising decision to opt out of his contract was a HUGE help to the Magic. I think Maggette figured he could force a sign and trade and get some good money that way. But with Davis coming on the market and the Clippers moving quickly to get him, the Clippers will now renounce Maggette's rights completely (they have to do this to create the room for Davis). No more sign and trade, Corey. So unless someone with a bunch of cap room decides to blow it on him, Maggette's going to get a bunch of offers for the MLE. The lack of a state income tax, the warm weather, and the fact that Orlando's a very good team all might make them the favorite (amazingly enough) unless someone like the Sixers or Grizzlies gets desperate. Has anyone considered that Maggette wouldn't even necessarily start in Boston? The Celtics aren't going to send Ray Allen to the bench to play Maggette at the 2, even though Maggette's far and away the better player at this point in his career. In Orlando, he'd start from day one. Make no mistake, adding Maggette at the 2 firmly puts Orlando in the Eastern Conference elite with Boston, Detroit and Cleveland.
That would be a fantastic signing for the Spurs. I had no idea they were in the running for Maggette. Edit: By the way, that Davis signing is huge for the Clippers. I thought for sure he'd be demanding a max deal or near to it. 5 years and $65M is pretty reasonable. Just like the Wizards with the Jamison contract, it seems that fiscal sanity may be pervading the NBA. Oh, wait, I forgot about Beno Udrih. Never mind.
NBA News: Maggette has five suitors. They are the Spurs, Jazz, Magic, Heat and Celtics. The Raptors have signed Hassan Adams. Hawks Forward Josh Smith will meet with the 76ers on Wednesday. It was reported earlier that offered him a 5 year/$55 million dollar deal but that report proved to be false. Dallas Mavericks and Gerald Green have agreed to a contract. It is believed to be a one year deal. New Bulls PG Derrick Rose was pulled over for speeding at 2:58 am. He was clocked at 100 mph. The Lakers have been talking to Celtics James Posey and Spurs Brent Barry. SI.com
I believe the Sixers can make a max offer of $66 million over 5-years for Josh Smith. I don't think that's a bad deal for Philly, considering where the market's at right now. Any perimeter that features Andre Miller, Lou Williams, Iggy, Thad Young, and Josh Smith is absolutely dangerous. I'd think Atlanta would be quick to match, but there's been talk of off the court issues with Smith and the organization, attitude wise. He's definitely a top notch talent who is already one of the best defenders in basketball.
The big problem with the Hawks, more than any issue with Smith, is the ownership debacle. That strikes me as the thing most likely to prevent them from matching an offer for Smith.
Yeah that's what I was thinking when it was rumored that he might have been offered a contract by 76ers. They say they plan on matching both Smith and Childress' offers.
Agreed. That's why I've been saying it along: perfect opportunity for a team like the Sixers to swoop in and steal a stud like Smith. If all fails with Smith, then IMO, they should go after Josh Childress for much cheaper and keep the cap space for 2009. Philly has a bright future, and I think a guy like Josh Smith puts them near the top in the Eastern Conference. G - Andre Miller/Lou Williams G - Andre Iguadola/Willie Green F - Josh Smith/Thaddeus Young F - Reggie Evans/Marreese Speights (Young can play here, too) C - Samuel Dalembert/Jason Smith That's a pretty impressive rotation. They've got six capable starters on the perimeter.
LOL^ Any update on Gilbert Arenas? I've heard a few different reports on the exact numbers offered by Washington & Golden State. I read on RealGM that Washington was offering up to $124 million? GTFOH.
The latest I have heard is that he has been offered a deal from the Wizards that is 6 years/ $125-127 million. The Warriors offered up 5 years/ $101 million. He has not signed with anyone yet because he is mulling over the Wizards offer. He is trying to figure out if he should take less money to help Washington build a supporting cast around him.
EDIT: Actually, that averages out to be about the same as Rashard Lewis's contract. Orlando should still be ashamed.
