I would have done that trade....Artest for Howard, is a good deal, but with Stack and Bass, thats a bit much. Take Bass out of that deal and boom baby.
I don't know how Howard for Artest would make sense for the Mavs. Even if Howard and Artest are the same age (28), Artest has a LOT more mileage on the odometer, and they're very similar in terms of offensive production. If Artest is better defensively, Howard is less injury prone and significantly less crazy.
Howard for Artest is a lateral move. Stack & Bass for Artest is a steal. Stack + Bass = not even close to the value of Josh Howard.
Livingston shouldn't receive more than the minimum. LLE at the max, but I think that's pushing it for a guy who may never play at an NBA level again. I wouldn't sign him to a multi-year guaranteed contract. I'd give him a shot at the minimum, though. No doubt.
I think you'll see him play in this league again but like you mentioned, I wouldn't give the guy a contract that exceeds the minimum. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I'm not sure the Clippers have the cap to give him even the minimum. They probably have no more than one million left over, if that.
Yeah. It sounds like Azubuike will take up the rest of the cap space. There maybe a bit left over, havent seen Azubuike's numbers yet so we'll see.
did GS match it or are they letting him go Is he going to be the starting 3? Or do you put Tim Thomas there?
GS still hasn't matched and I doubt they will because they still have to resign Biedrins and Ellis. I thought the three was Al Thornton? If not, then I would expect Azubuike to play there. Azubuike is a pretty good player who can put up points.
NBA News: Lakers Will Not Match Turiaf Offer The L.A. Lakers have declined to match Golden States offer to Ronny Turiaf. Turiaf has signed with the Warriors. The deal is worth $17 million over 4 years. Turaif averaged 6.6 points per game and 3.9 rebounds in 78 games for Western Conference champion Lakers. (Link) Clippers Sign Azubuike To Three-Year Offer Sheet The Los Angeles Clippers have signed Warriors swingman Kelenna Azubuike to a 3 year offer sheet worth approximately $9 million. The Clippers have $3 million left in cap room and this deal would likely spend all of it. Azubuike has proved that he can put up points when needed and play multiple positions (the 2 and 3). The Warriors are unlikely to match. If they did, Azubuike would be fifth on the depth chart behind Stephen Jackson, Monta Ellis, Marco Bellinelli and Corey Maggette. (Link) OKC Sign Jazz Guard To Offer Sheet Oklahoma City have signed Jazz Guard C.J. Miles to an offer sheet. It is a reported multi-year offer. Miles has averaged 4.0 points per game over his three year career. (Link) Lakers Bynum Cleared To Play According to Kupchack, Andrew Bynum has been in New York rehabbing for 19 days. He has been cleared to work out and play. Bynum started basketball activities today. Also, Chris Mihm is expected to be healthy come training camp. A possible healthy Mihm has made the departure of Turiaf easier. Turiaf wasn't expected to receive many minutes this off-season because of Bynum's return. (Link) Josh Smith Was Expecting Offer Sheet From Clippers Hawks FA Josh Smith says he was expecting an offer sheet from the Clippers after a smooth visit to LA. However, that went out the window when the Clippers landed Marcus Camby from Denver. Rumors around the NBA are that Smith doesn't want to be back in Atlanta. An earlier report stated that Smith would only be back if the Hawks got a new Head Coach.(Link) Charlotte's Okafor Likely To Leave Bobcats Center Emeka Okafor is likely to leave the team via a sign and trade deal. Sources have questioned the Bobcats desire to bring back Okafor because of them pursuing DeSagna Diop once FA opened up. Diop was offered a 5 year contract that started at the mid-level exception. Diop went on to sign with Dallas.(Link) Lakers Reluctant To Give Up Odom For Artest Talks between the Lakers and Kings are just about dead. The Lakers are reluctant to give up Lamar Odom in exchange for Ron Artest and Kenny Thomas. (Link) Cavaliers After Artest? The Cleveland Cavaliers are possibly after the Kings Ron Artest in a deal that could involve Wally Szczerbiak. It may all depend on how far the Cavaliers would be willing to go over the luxury tax. (Link)
Yeah, I liked him. At least Bynum is working out now. The link is in the earlier report. I updated it.
Yea, that's some good news to balance it out. I'm guessing they want to try Mihm at PF? Phil had been considering it before Turiaf and injuries to Mihm came along. He can shoot outside, maybe block a shot or two, but he's not exactly Turiaf. We're essentially left with little quality depth at PF. Pau and Odom can spend some minutes but we need a real grinder there at PF and that's what Turiaf provided. If I'm Kupchak, I'm not waiting on Artest and using the MLE or the LLE on a guy like Adonal Foyle, Brian Skinner, or Kurt Thomas. First one to pass a physical wins the stopgap PF/C role. Neither can replace the glue guy mentality Ronny brought though.
Yeah, that seems likely. Adonal Foyle has stated he will be back in Orlando. Skinner and Thomas are still out there I believe but the Spurs may want Thomas back. There will be no trade with Ron Artest. I had to edit again as I keep finding news LOL.
NBA News: Lakers Walton Undergoes Ankle Surgery Lakers Luke Walton had right ankle surgery on Friday and is expected to miss 6 weeks. He is expected to make a full recovery come training camp. (Link)
Skinner's probably the more likely one. Foyle and Thomas are possibilities if their contract negotiations go sour. Might as well make another new post. The real deal-breaker is the Kings' insistence on including Kenny Thomas. And it's a shame Clips can't get Josh Smith thanks to getting Camby. No big deal on the Luke surgery. Only a role player and he knows the system well. It won't take much to get him back to speed mentally. Physically though...
Yeah, no one wants to take on Thomas' $18 million over the next two years, can't say I blame them lol. Yeah I thought the same thing about them not getting Josh Smith. I like Camby but I rather take Josh Smith because of the age and productivity. My guess is that the Clippers believe in Azubuike (assuming they sign him).
Lol yeah. They seem to really like Marco Bellinelli. He has shot lights out in the SL two years in a row but can't do anything once he gets in to an NBA game. He's a good three point shooter though. Monta Ellis is expected to go to Point Guard if they can't sign or trade for one. One player to keep a look out for is Kirk Hinrich. There has been talk about him possibly going to the Warriors via trade. The Bulls are shopping him and Gordon. There has been minimal, if any, interest in Gordon from teams around the league. It is unlikely he gets traded because he doesn't fit any system.
Anyone seeing Minnesota trading Big Al for Emeka? I hate to say it but if Mchale is in love, with Klove I can see this move happening.
i hear the knicks have some marbury guy on the block if the warriors want a PG. And all it would take is..Monta Ellis. Speaking of summer league, last years first rounder is tearing it up averaging 22+ per game (2nd overall). Wilson Chandler...nice pick Isiah. Gordon is a 1 trick pony and a poor shooter at that. Hes an ideal 6th man who can start but hes not a starter imo. Never been real enamored with him and cant really see why anyone would rush to give him the albatross contract he wants.
If he trades Al back to Boston for junk, then it's time for the NBA to re-investigate McFail (2nd strike after the Joe Smith under the tables fiasco).
I don't think there is anyway they trade Al Jefferson unless he demands it. He's going to be a very very good player if he isn't already. We all know he is not happy about playing the 5 spot but I can't see them moving him. Lol. Anything is possible with Chris Mullin running the show in GS. I liked him coming out of the draft. I hope he pans out for them. Glad to hear he's doing that well. Yeah, I agree. I think the only way he gets a contract is either by the Bulls offering it to him or a team desperate for a starting SG and looks to him. He's impressive as hell off the bench. When he starts, its a different story. Its like night and day with him.
I know. But he is restricted so Wolves dump off Jefferson to Celts, then pick up Okafor. Then the next year, they ship him also to the Celts. It's McFail's secret plan. Wolves become the farm team for his former team, the Celtics.
Dooling to New Jersey in a sign-and-trade. I believe it's for a $3.8 million trade exception. Sorry, I don't have a link. It's on RealGM's wiretap, though.
Miles Looking Good In Comeback Attempt Darius Miles, 26, is attempting to make a comback from a labeled career ending injury. The 6'9 Miles has been very impressive in his workouts. He still needs to work on his conditioning as it showed after his 90 minute private workout with the Mavericks. Miles states he is 100% physically and is still explosive but needs to work on getting back in game shape. Miles showed off his explosiveness after his workout in Dallas. Miles stood flat-footed and jumped straight up, reaching the top of the square on the backboard. Many considered Miles a problem in the locker room because he wouldn't help out the rookies but Miles disagrees. He says he is still a younger player and needs to be on a veteran team. Miles says that Maurice Cheeks, 76ers current coach, was his best coach because he told him that he had all the potential but failed to take advantage of it. Miles, now, is taking advantage of every opportunity and wants to quiet his critics. Some may ask why now? Miles recently had a son and has inspired him to continue playing basketball and live up to his 'can't miss prospect' label. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/ian_thomsen/07/17/miles/1.html Man only 26? I would love to see him make a comeback. EDIT: Also, forgot to add in the summary that he has worked out for four teams (Nets, Celtics, Suns and Mavericks). His workouts have been anywhere from 30 minutes to 90 minutes.
NBA News: OKC Names Its Team The former Seattle Sonics and present Oklahoma City NBA team have renamed their team to the OKC Thunder. The link is ESPNEWS. Warriors Intrigued By Sixers Williams Sources say that the Golden State Warriors are interested in signing Sixers guard Louis Williams to an offer sheet. The Warriors are looking for a guard to team up with Monta Ellis who is expected to be their Point Guard. If the Sixers were to match an offer sheet made by the Warriors to Williams, it is unlikely that the Warriors would extend their offer to Williams due to having little cap room. Substance Used By Miles Revealed Darius Miles was suspended ten games earlier this off-season for violating the substance abuse policy. That substance was a weight loss drug. Miles is attempting to make a comeback from serious knee surgery that was career threatening. He is expected to command minimum salary. Miles will receive $18 million from the Blazers this year in addition to a possible free agent contract. However, if Miles was to play ten games next season, his payroll would be reinstated on the Blazers cap. Smith Doesn't Want To Go Back To Atlanta Earlier this off-season there were reports stating that Hawks Forward Josh Smith did not want to go back to Atlanta because of his current coach Mike Woodson. Smith says those reports are false. He still doesn't want to be back in Atlanta but its not because of his coach. Their relationship is fine. The reason he doesn't want back in Atlanta is because of their slow moving negotiations. Smith is unlikely to sign elsewhere. The only teams with salary cap are the Grizzlies, Bulls and Grizzlies. They have stated they will be re-signing their own players with that money and plan on spending it next off-season. Smith may re-sign with the Hawks on a one year tender deal or may force a sign and trade deal. NBA Executives Worried About Prospects Going To Europe There have been several players who have signed or considered signing overseas. Some of those players are Carlos Delfino, Arizona prospect Brandon Jennings and possibly former Raptor Jorge Garbajosa. The NBA executives are worried because the declining fortune of the American dollar. Several players have been linked to teams overseas and have been tempted to go because of a grand contract offered up by European clubs. The latest name mentioned is Nets Nenad Krstic. Krstic has been contacted by Israel's Macabi Tel Aviv but Krstic says he is determined to come back from a knee injury and prove himself in the NBA. Rookies Showing Off Talents In Summer League There have been many draft picks this off-season who have showcased their talents in the Summer League. Some of those include Memphis' O.J. Mayo, Timberwolves Kevin Love and Houston's Donte Greene. Greene, selected out of Syracuse by Houston, scored 40 points in his first Summer League game. Mayo and Love have also impressed in Summer League by posting double figures in each of the games. Hornets Hoping To Develop Wright Into A Backup PG The Hornets are hoping to develop former Kansas forward Julian Wright into a Point Guard someday. (Link)
OKC Thunder? Sounds like a minor league baseball team or a WNBA team. Love's posted double-doubles I believe.
Lol yeah. I thought it was a stupid name. In basketball leagues, we have better team names. Yeah, I believe he has posted a double-double in every game including 19 points and 18 rebounds in the last game.
NBA News: Six Teams Interested In George There are as many as six teams interested in Devean George. The former Laker and Maverick says it is unlikely that he will be back in Dallas. The teams interested are Suns, Spurs, Timberwolves, Cavaliers and Hornets. Another team possibly after George is the NBA champion Boston Celtics. (Link) Heat Show Interest In Former Sun The Heat are expressing their interest in bringing in former Suns F/C Brian Skinner. Another name mentioned with the Heat is Kwame Brown. Brown has been making visits with teams but not with the Heat. (Link) The End For Pacers Williams? Earlier this off-season, Larry Bird of the Pacers said that Shawne Williams was on thin-ice. The former Memphis Tiger has had trouble with the law the last couple years and it has come around again. Friday afternoon in Indianapolis, Williams and his friend Darrell Smith Jr. were pulled over by the police for a dark window tint. While issuing a ticket to Williams, the officer discovered marijuana in the Williams' car. Williams was not charged with possession of marijuana but did receive a seat belt and window tint violation. However, Williams' Pacer future doesn't look too well. (Link) David Lee Wants To Stay In NY Knicks forward David Lee has been rumored in just about every trade this off-season. Lee says that he doesn't know his future in NY but wants to stay there. He sees a positive change under new head coach Mike D'Antoni. Recently, D'Antoni and Lee spoke. D'Antoni told the forward that he wants to keep him. Lee is a free agent after this season and may be looking for a lucrative deal which would rule out the Knicks because of the LeBron James sweepstakes in 2010. (Link)
I like Lee, but no one on this team is untradeable. And certainly, please, no more long term contracts for ok players....
NBA Notes From Stephen A. Smith On ESPN Houston's Tracy McGrady to Detroit Pistons is a real possibility. The deal would have McGrady going to Detroit in exchange for Point Guard Chauncey Billups and Forward Tayshaun Prince. Stephen A. Smith spoke to Tracy McGrady and said that McGrady sees it as a "win/win" situation. If he doesn't go, he's still on a playoff team in Houston and if he goes to Detroit then he is on a championship contender. Kings Forward Ron Artest is still second guessing himself in not opting out. Artest believed that he wasn't able to get more money than what he was getting in Sacramento but after he saw the money Elton Brand got from Philadelphia, he wanted to be moved and wanted a new contract. Artest is representing himself. The Mavericks haven't been happy with Josh Howard since their playoff loss. Howard was passing out party fliers to teammates and friends hours after the loss. Also, later in the season, Howard admitted to using marijuana. However, despite the distraction, they do not plan on moving Howard. They squashed all the speculation that Howard is on the trading block. The only way Howard is moved is if they are offered a great deal.
Yeah I agree. I saw a crazy statistic the other day that showed the Knicks having 16 guaranteed contracts right now. That's ludicrous.
That deal is crap for Detoit. I wouldnt even trade Billups for T-whack straight up let alone throw in Prince. For Detroits style of play McGrady is not a fit as hes from the matador school of defense. Hes a lock to miss a minimum of 15-20 games a year. If McGrady goes to Detroit and Detroit gives up those 2 guys, Id venture to say that Detroit would no longer be a championship contender. Aside from giving up the best player in the deal, Billups, Prince alone isnt far off from McGrady. While T-whack is a much more dynamic offensive player, Prince is light years better on defense.
