good match up, 2 wrestlers, with CB being more decorated. jesse shouldnt be able to lay on him for 3 boring rounds. jesse isnt slick enough to catch CB in any sort of submission this century, and not good enough on his feet to hurt him there. not sure where u got the impression cb had a weak jaw from though, ive never seen it get tested. and he's not afraid to throw at all. he's quite dominant with his striking.
wonder if dumb *** will make weight this time...injury or not. should be exciting though. i smell a 3 rounder.
During the UFC he often went off balance or went down catching a shot (Amir knocked him down 2x this way)...I dont know, but to me it looked like if you throw at him, his reaction is to go down and get off balance.
What are you talking about? He got rocked in the semi finals. And in the match prior to it. He almost went down both times.
Its going to be tough to knockout Griffin. I can see Rampage winning but I don't think its going to be as one sided as people think.
If Rampage gets him down and works the ground and pound effectively, I see a KO. Not really a KO, but a stoppage bc I dont think Forrest will be able to throw Rampage off.
Griffin had a great strategy. He started kicking Rampage's leg right from the get go. Did major damage. Rampage dropped him with a nice uppercut at the end that probably won the round. In the second, Griffin landed two consecutive kicks to the knee and the leg buckled, and Griffin then took him down. He was on top the entire round and probably got 10-8. The next two rounds Jackson did a good job avoiding the kicks and landed a bit. In the fourth, Griffin got a triangle. But Jackson picked him up, and Griffin wisely released to avoid the slam. Those early leg kicks won him the fight IMO. They really negated Rampage's ability to throw and throw accurately. So much of his game is predicated on that and the affect was substantial. He couldn't push or do much of anything when he was on his back. His upper body strength allowed him to withstand a lot of Griffin's ju jitsu though. Solid fight for Griffin. Both guys were extremely classy afterward. Jackson was limping badly after the fight.
Eh I have to give Griffin/Jackson a thumbs down. Heres why: -Aside from the leg kicks to Rampage's knee, what damage did Forest do? None IMO. His submissions were never close to ending anything. -The 2nd round was probably scored 10-8 for Forest. Why? I thought 10-8 rounds went to the guy who dominated and did damage the whole round. Forest did get the takedown, but I didnt see any kind of damage or real significance after that. He basically just manuvered for position and rode out the rest of the round. Rampage didnt do anything, but I dont think Forest did enough for a 10-8. -Rampage didnt show up like anyone was hoping, obviously. I know he doesnt really throw a lot of punches, and those leg kicks certainly took some of his power. But he seemed to be moving around on that knee a lot better as the fight went on. So why didnt he try to swing for the fences in the entire 5th round when he certainly knew he was behind or not ahead? -IMO, this fight was a draw. I'm a believer that the champion should retain his belt in a close fight and that the challenger needs to DECISIVELY beat the champ to take his title. Forest landed a lot of leg kicks and scored a takedown. Not enough to win a championship IMO. -I think the end result of both the main fights was what the UFC wanted (use your imagination). Cote obviously did not win his fight. But somehow, he gets the decision and it was announced about a week ago that he was already in line to fight Anderson Silva in the near future. Coincidence? Like I said before, I think Rampage and Forest was a draw. At the most, a split decision for Forest. Certainly not a unanimous decision in his favor. It seemed very planned after I heard Dana White kiss Forest's *** up and down for the last month. Also the fact that this came after Cote's robbery. That certainly didnt help my opinion. Overall, Disappointing night. At least my boy Anderson Silva is just around the corner.
The possibly perfect opponent for Kimbo... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sySn_PIeGog&feature=related Both of them are carnival acts...so why not?
i think sapp is done with competing. he'd be WAY to much for Kimbo though...or would have been. his ridiculous size made him pretty damn competitive in mma. he was just foolish to go to K1, where it completely limited him and he didn't fair well at all. do any of you guys remember him boxing the fridge on the tough man competitions, like 10 years ago?
When Sapp 1st started out he was soft in the midsection. Kimbo would exploit that I think. I would like to see both in the steel cage.
EliteXC's event is the 26th Affliction's first show is the 19th, with one of the best cards I've seen in a LONG time, which is exactly why the UFC scrambled to put together a free show last minute to steal ratings.
Agree on some points and disagree on others. You hear Dana say all the time on TUF that he thinks the winner should be whoever causes the most damage. Using that logic Cote was definitely the winner of that lame fight, he was the aggressor for the majority of the fight. The Rampage/Griffin fight I have mixed feelings on. Obviously I'm a huge Rampage fan so I may sound biased but other than the 2nd round I think that the rest of the fight was even or in Rampage's favor. Rampage clearly won the 1st round and was doing well once he got his legs back under him in the later rounds. I definitely agree though with the 5th round part, I honestly believe he could have pulled it out if he would have came out balls to the wall in the 5th but he just played it safe for some reason. Maybe that knee was hurting more than he showed, who knows. Good gameplan for Forrest though. Interested to see what fights are set up from here on out.
Jackson's coach protesting the decision, Re-Match already in the works??? http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles.asp?n_id=13575
well..that is stupid..especially after Rampage himself said "he jacked my leg up..he whooped my ***." Forrest won the 2nd, 3rd and 5th round. 3 is better than 2. he won. Cote clearly won his fight although it was an embarrassment.
Meant to say the 19th for the Affliction show, thats why the UFC made this free show at the last minute.
Forrest Griffin was on 790 yesterday on lebatards show. They usually upload the interview late the next day...so look for it in the lebatard section of 790's site around 5 pm.
I havent seen a ton from him, but hes a tough dude with real good stand up. Should be a good test for Anderson. I think the whole fight depends on how well Silva adjusts to a heavier weight and what kind of weight he put on.
Here's my prediction... Tim Sylvia will defeat Fedor Emelianenko this Saturday. Emelianenko's hasn't fought anybody worth a crap for close to 3 years, when he fought Cro Cop. Yes, Lindland is one of the better fighters at 185, but he had no business getting in the ring with a HW. Sylvia has fought top guys for the past 5 years. Sure, he has put on some boring stinkers, and has fought not to lose rather than fighting to win. But I think he'll come out and fight to win this time. I put my money on the guy who's faced top guys for 5 years, rather than the guy who's fought bums for the past 3 years.
I'd put my annual salary on Fedor. I've always thought Sylvia was overrated, and all Fedor has to do is watch his fight with Couture. Randy absolutely dominated Sylvia.
Firesole and SickFinFan33, you guys wanna bet? There's no more vbookie, so what can you guys bet me? How 'bout a sig bet? If Sylvia wins, you change your sig to "TDF knows more about MMA than I will ever know" - for a month. If Fedor wins, I put whatever you guys want me to put in mine. Whaddya say?
