As a former amateur wrestler myself, I naturally root for those guys. Severen, Coleman, Lesnar and now, Lashley. Lashley is/was an OUTSTANDING amateur and just a solid solid dude who is quick on his feet. If he can develop any type of striking he will be good. If he develops any type of submission on top of that, it could get scary for the heavyweights.
Him and Brock could change the way the heavyweight division flows all together. Gone will be the days of the hulking ,slow, ground and pound guys.If they get actual martial arts skills and training they could be very dangerous. Look at Kozchek and what he has been able to do with his skill level. BTW love the CB, Amir matchup. I think Amir will give CB fits. I predict CB and Jesse in the finals.
I wanted CB to get knocked out so bad. I feel just like Forrest did. I hate that type of person. God, could Cale Yargbrough look any worse than he did in that fight?
no, I think CB makes for good television. He is hardly the man. He is basically a punk kid who has yet to be challenged. Wait until he goes up against anybody with a little bit of skill. I was hoping to see Jesse's dumb *** ground and pound him but I guess they'll have to make it to the finals to see that. All of these guys are fighting at 185 aren't they? LOL they have no shot in that division! I'm sure we'll see most go down to 170....oops they don't really have a shot there either do they?
Saw the Faber vs. Pulver match....5 rounds and the California Kid packs a heavy right and is just so fast and quick. Great match for MMA fans. Loved it.
yeah I've watched it twice now. I'm still impressed with Jens though. I've seen him look so bad against Louazo and BJ Penn, I didn't think he had much chance against Faber, but he took alot of big shots and didn't give up. Faber is just ridiculously good. I love watching that weight class along with the 155lbers.
great chin and seriously he took the entire kitchen sink from Faber and still came back for more. Jens landed some shots of his own too. Both were class-act guys following the fight as well with the interviews, etc.
I heard the same things about Danzig last season. I agree, I said from the very beginning that the weight class they are in is on lockdown right now by Silva. But CB has been my pick from the beginning.
Talk Radio, the newspapers are called opinion makers for a reason. The CASUAL fan does get guidance from them. That is my fear.
I know its off topic, but how many Rush Limbaugh nutjob followers are out there? A WHOLE HELLUVALOT. I'm getting out my umbrella now to ward off the flying puppies coming down on me though.
Don't you mean listeners? There is no evidence that they do everything he says either. Maybe you should actually listen to somebody before you characterize them and everybody that listens to him.
Kinda a big difference between being told what to think abotu politics and being told what to think about MMA. If I had no idea what NFL was and talk radio/newspapers kept telling me it was crap it would give me a notion of what to expect and it could depress those that would give it a try. Dana White agrees with me BTW. He was ESPN on Sunday apologizing for that show and it wasn;t even his show.
i wasn't referring to everyone of his listeners. I'm referring to the "nutjob followers" that believe and actually do everything he suggests. If you fell into that group I personally apologize. No offense meant towards you. BTW I listen to alot of talk shows but I don't agree with 100% of everything they suggest. sorry for hijacking this great thread, now back on topic!
Donald Trump partners with Affliction http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=6432&zoneid=1 I expect Tito to sign with them any day now.
If the match on CBS was Faber vs. Pulver the attitude and press toward MMA would be so different than the garbage spewed by Slice vs. Thompson.
Anybody watching the PPV tomorrow? I believe it's tomorrow anyways. I'm going to be on a Suncruz boat so I doubt I'll get to see it.
Hopefully for Trumps sake, it goes better than his USFL venture. But im a bit surprised by this. I thought Affliction had a great small nitch. They grew mainly because of the UFC and fighters wearing their over-priced t-shirts. it seemed like a nice marriage, but now they are going into the fight business to compete with the company that put them on their back? and what does an apparel company know about the fight game? Id think they needed $$$ and Trump brings some of that, along with his goofy persona.(but i like the guy). Trump has an interest in Atlantic City(a big fight city) so i'd wager a large majority of these fights will take place at his casinos(which were hemorrhaging $$$). interesting to say the least, but i dont have big expectations for this promotion.
Agreed On the bright side, it was WEC's strongest show ever. 3x their previous TV rating record. They also brought in almost as much in ticket sales as the last UFC show is Sacramento.
yeah definitely not the strongest card, although I do want to see the fights. I'm especially interested in how Hughes fights, the Brandon Vera fight (I thought he was going to be a real factor in the heavywieght division), and the Mike Swick fight.
i am curious to see how Hughes fights; if he still feel s he has something to prove, or not. i am interested in seeing Vera fight only in the hopes of seeing him getting KTFO. i have not been impressed with his act thus far.
Hughes vs. Serra is the 1 fight I would pay to see, the day that is announced will be the one that draws me back into the ppv. The last was Hughes vs. St. Pierre but I was really anticipating Hughes vs. Serra until the injury.
I have a feeling we'll never see Hughes vs Serra. I've always beleived once Serra lost the title he was going to drop back down to 155lbs. He doesn't belong in the Welterweight division.
Alves misses Weight http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=6435&zoneid=2
Agreed, I've always liked him but thats ridiculous. Biggest fight of his career and he can't even make weight.
I cant believe that either. 3 Pounds is ****ing ridiculous. I'm really suprised it happened with a guy like Alves too, he seems like hes really well regimented with training and dieting etc. Apparently not as well regimented as I thought.
I dont know if this was reported in the same article or an update, but the Alves/Hughes fight is going ahead as planned with a new catch weight of 174 bc Alves is stupid, and looks like it will still be for the title. I give Hughes some credit though, he could of thrown a ****fit about this and nobody would really blame him. http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=6435&zoneid=13
Looks like the kid pounded hughes. caught him with a flying knee in the 2nd. not exhausting himself cutting weight no doubt helped him energy wise. at hughes' age, cutting from 190-195 to 170 is no doubt taxing. this kid probably had less weight to cut as it was. too bad its a bit of tarnished win for him, i cant justify giving him a title shot. yeah he beat hughes, but HE COULDNT MAKE WEIGHT. thats not the kind of stuff champions are made of.
