the zuffas really put a great program together. i hate the word "extreme" at this stage of the game...but its such a pleasure compared to last nights abortion.
Great contrast to last night. The plan from Uriah wasn't something i expected but it amazingly effective. I think Uriah was shocked that he couldnn't finish Jens in the 2nd and he got a littled winded trying to finish him off. Which let to him cathcing some nice shots. We knew about Jens chin and stand-up game but Uriah was somewhat more of a mystery but he showed that he is right up there in the "p4p" talk with this complete showing.
I would say the one thing that kept Pulver in this was his experience. He nullified somwhat, Faber's GnP. Obviousy he ate some good elbows but nothing like how Faber overwhlems others when on their backs.
The Torres fight was great. Just two guys kicking the tar out of each other. Here is hoping the have a rematch down the road.
wow I loved that Pulver-Uriah fight! What an awesome show. I'm still shocked that Jens didn't get knocked out. I swear I saw his neck snap back at least 5 times from big punches, whether it was uppercuts, or elbows. I am amazed that he didn't go down. This weight class along with the lightweights at 155 are the most exciting in this sport IMO.
Does anybody else think that the EliteXC show or whatever it was called was a complete piece of **** show? I mean I thought I was watching the WWF there for a moment. WTF with the dancing girls or guys coming out in sequin robes ala Ric Flair? I mean all of this just becasue it was on CBS? They're trying to rush this sport to quickly into the mainstream and they're gonna **** it up with garbage like that.
Yeh I agree, they whole "entrance" and etc. to jazz up the event took away from the respectability of the sport, IMO.
because they wasted so much time on that garbage, I missed the end of the Kimbo fight. I set my DVR to record teh 2 hour show and the news program coming up right afterward. I got to see 2 rounds of the Kimbo fight. On another note, I read an article in ESPN magazine while waiting for a haircut on Saturday. I came away with a different respect for Kimbo. I always considered him some thug from Miami because I always saw his fights and the guys he hung out with who would always jump in once his opponent got the upperhand. I never thought much of him as a person until I read this article. The article talked about how his life was changed 180 degrees by Hurricane Andrew. He was a promising football star until then. He flunked out of Bethune Cookman, and lived in a car or van for a few years because he was too proud to live with his mom. He worked ****ty jobs until this fight thing landed in his lap. He talks about only doing this for the money, which is smart IMO. He isn't expecting to turn into some big MMA legend, but he wants to make the most of what he can before his time runs out.
yeh I read the article as well, but I already had some background on him before that. Thats why I kind of scoff when people down play him as a joke. He never said he wanted to be the best fighter in the world, much less the company. I missed the whole entore fight. I dvr'd the news after the fight and still didnt catch it.
I gotta say for all of you guys who loved the girls fight. I couldn't watch it. The only girls I want to see in my MMA matches are holding round cards and blowing kisses at the TV afterward while we're staring at their asses.
I haven't seen anyone insult the guy on a personal level, but I don't care how much anyone likes the guy you have to admit he is WAY overhyped. Is that his fault? Probably not but with the amount of hype he gets everywhere and then the performance he shows on national network tv people have a right to blast the situation IMO. That kinda crap is bad for the sport.
As a father of 2 girls I dont have a problem with them fighting at all. Matter of fact I am a huge fan of gina's, and IMO thought that was the best match.
he doesnt hurt the sport as much as people dancing to the ring and having women take off their robe does.
Possibly, but Baroni has already done more in his MMA career than Kimbo ever will IMO. That whole show saturday night was a joke. Its sad to think that was probably thousands of people's first taste of MMA.
LOL, not even close bro. I didn't see Brock on ESPN the Magazine, at the Country Music Awards, SportsCenter, Local News, etc..... Not to mention Brock was given a real opponent and the match wasn't nearly as controversial.
No they didn;t. Lesnar was given what was one of the toughest opponents for him to face. There is no comparison whatsoever. Anyway, Lesnar is a REAL athlete and a REAL wrestler and he actually has some skill. Kimbo is stealing money. HUGE difference.
i would take 6 figures to be called a "wanna be" by mma "fans" who most of which wouldnt last 8 seconds in a cage anyways.... who WOULDNT 'steal' that money?!?! dudes a genius, and a buisness man
yeah matter of fact I'm listening to a ralk radio station here in Orlando and all they have been talking about is the Kimbo fight. They sound so ignorant when talking about it also. MMA fans are calling up and dissecting the fight for them and the show hosts are calling them Kimbo haters....LMAO. Yeah Lesnar's first UFC opponent BTW was a former heavywieght champ was he not?
Agreed. You put Lesnar in the ring with that British stiff and he has him on the ground in 10 seconds and turns his face into hamburger meet in 30. I was actually surprised at the caliber of opponent Brock got for his first fight as UFC didn't "protect" him at all. In fact, I was shocked at his original second opponent as well (Marc Coleman) before Marc got injured. They are certainly throwing Brock into the fire and making him earn his spot. Kimbo has yet to face anyone of any substance yet. A british stiff, a washed up boxer (Mercer) and a fat tub of goo (Aboott).
I am perfectly fine with him making his money and he seems like a nice enough guy who knows he isn't the best. But I just find it laughable that he gets so much hype when anyone who knows anything about this sport knows that he really doesn't have much in his arsenal. But his handlers are smart to feed him crap opponents while he works on his technique and skill level. The problem is, by the time he gets those up to par, he will be way long in the tooth and probably not able to capitalize on it. And I know I could last 8 seconds...heck I could run for at least 10...
I am not a MMA fighter. I am a MMA consumer. What I said was accurate. Why do you take offense? a genius? Doesn't take a genius to win the lottery.
Thats a bit of a low blow to all the die hard MMA fans we have here. Your trying to say that people that have been watching this stuff for years don't know anything about the sport? Saying that the people that criticize him wouldn't last 8 seconds is irrelevant to the conversation, even if plenty of people could last well over that easily. You don't really think that only the fans are annoyed by how much hype this guy is getting? All those other fighters out there that have been doing this for years and helped make the sport what it is today have to be somewhat insulted by all this.
Not to mention all the "reviews" this clown show on saturday is getting are terrible. All of the potential NEW MMA fans we could have gotten are now turned off by this because they think the entire sport is like this. This Kimbo circus will set back MMA years. ONLY a UFC with HBO deal can help us get to the mainstream.
No one is insulting anyone as you pointed out earlier. All we are saying is he is hot right now and he's riding his fifteen as long as he can. there's nothing wrong with that.
