Golden will release an offseason depth chart tomorrow. Says it’ll be a big wake-up call to several players. Player weight is under control, no more overweight guys. And players who screw around all week won’t start.
Miami has named Tony Hernandez interim athletic director while the university conducts a nationwide search to replace Kirby Hocutt, who recently accepted the same position at Texas Tech. Hernandez, who has been at Miami for 13 years, is currently the school's deputy athletic director. The national search will begin immediately and a successor is expected to be announced by the beginning of the fall semester.
Depth chart is out. From Tim Reynolds: QB1: Spencer Whipple (yes, this is correct) QB2: Jacory Harris QB3: Stephen Morris Lots of other wake up calls. Seantrel Henderson is the backup LT. Travis Benjamin is a backup too.
http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/22717/al-golden-sends-message-with-spring-depth-chart Good, way to much sloppy football last season, imho it appears one of Shannon's problems was selective standards. This way, even the name guys/starters have to earn their spots.
B-ball team loses their season finale to one of the worst teams among the big conferences. The baseball team gets swept by the turds and falls to 4-6. Gonna be a loooooong year for the baseball team.
That's ******ed (sorry Trig!). I'm going to have to talk to Al about walking on.... The only reason Spencer is even on the team is because of his (now departed) dad.
While true, the reason for Whipple being first on the depth chart is because he did the best job in workouts of all the quarterbacks. Golden said he beat Jacory by a hair. The depth chart just reflects who did the best work at what position, not talent. Spring practices will bring it more in line with a genuine, real depth chart.
You've got me calmed, but the anger is still there. We haven't recruited well in awhile and it's extremely frustrating as a Cane(fan). Jacory is a backup and the others are intramural material. I don't really feel comfortable with any of the QBs.
The 2011 group is pretty good considering Golden had something like 15 NCAA-allowed days to work with. He’s already landed a bunch of big 2012 commits. Rome can’t be fixed in a season. I agree about Jacory, but Brissett’s high school coach gave him bad advice and he took it. That leaves us in a holding pattern at QB until 2012, when Forcier, Morris, and whoever else Golden gets will compete for the job. Golden and Fisch will have to coach up the QBs on the roster. An ACC championship is not impossible this year.
Yep, this is the year we finally don't make the NCAA Baseball tournament I sadly believe. 38 straight years, more years than any other sport in NCAA history. Too bad because Florida St. is right behind us with 33 or 34 years and they are going very strong, and will blow by our record I am sure. I think the end of the time of greatness for Miami baseball has come. All the worst fears have come true : Coaching is stale, recruiting took a hit when Gino DiMare retired, smaller programs around the state are draining our over all depth, the tuition at UM has just become unreasonable during an economic downturn. And the biggest reason of all - the sleeping Giant in Gainsville has awoken. That was a program that I could never understand why it anually underperformed and underrecruited in a state so rich in baseball talent. Well Jeremy Foley has done it, and it is totally at the expense of the U of Miami Hurricanes program. It was fun while it lasted, and I enjoyed many, many years of fun & thrills at The Light, but I am afraid we are going into a long, long era of average at best baseball at the U.
Everything about the baseball program is just disheartening. I honestly can't think of a positive. And they're currently having trouble beating teams like Illinois State and Rutgers
Seantrel Henderson suspended for season opener against Maryland for a violation of team policy. Looks like he's not hitting it off so well with the new staff and could transfer.
Not shocking at all that they blew a big lead and allowed an open layup as time expired. Haith basketball.
And Seantrel isn't transferring. Golden just needs to smack him around a little bit. Get his head on straight.
6 suspended for Maryland opener: Seantrel (as we already knew), Storm, Cain, Keion Payne, Devont'a Davis, and Dyron Dye. http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/sports...rs-Suspended-for-Season-Opener-118200964.html
Nice to see that Golden continues not to screw around. We should be able to beat Maryland without those guys anyway.
Seantreal will be missed dearly but the rest, we should do fine without. I love Storm, but Lamar and Mike are still there in the backfield.
Is he gone for sure or negotiating with them? I sure the heck hope he bolts!!! Bring on Brad Stevens!! Or maybe a Frank Martin!!
Let’s be honest, UM is a football school with baseball somewhere out on the periphery. Basketball barely registers. Whoever the next coach is has his work cut out for him if winning is actually the goal. Sorry guys, I don’t see UM winning the NCAA tourney anytime soon.
Im not saying it will happen overnight. I just want a respectable b-ball program that can make the tourney more than twice in a decade.
I'm with you but I think its maybe a lost cause, like Vanderbilt ever expecting to play in a BCS game. The chances are almost as bad, it could happen, but for it to happen more than once in a lifetime is setting the expectations too high.
