Whipple has a pretty good track record.

You wouldn’t know it from watching the 2010 Miami Hurricanes.

I didn't think he did that bad of a job. The players are partly to blame as well.

A lot of things went wrong with the team. Whipple is absolutely one of them.

Whipple was undermined by Shannon quite often. Plays they would work on all week would get scrapped on gameday. The entire offensive gameplan at OSU was changed by Shannon.

Yep, heard about that as well. Whipple still was part of the problem but I heard about Shannon messing with the gameplan depending on what player packages were involved and such.

What is surprising to me is Whipple never really did ANY recruiting other than maybe some guys in south Florida so I think he'll need to get some good recruiters up there with him.

He was but the one thing I say was on him was not developing the players. That falls on Shannon as well. He should have had some excellent teachers in place and his team would have gotten better and better

If he goes bring back Art Kehoe :)

I herd some rumbles that Whipple wanted to use Streeter more but he was in the doghouse of Randy Shannon...

The entire program was in Shannon’s doghouse.

Shannon stuck his nose into the offense a lot. Whipple is a good OC.

They would install a package, practice the package all week, only to have that package eliminated on game day because Shannon didn't want to play the players in that package.

Jeff Stoutland has gone to Alabama. No clue who’ll replace him yet. Good luck working under the Nicktator.

Seahawks QB coach Jedd Fisch is almost certainly the next UM OC.

USC 5 star TE Blake Ayles has transferred to Miami. He's a senior, hasn't done much at USC, so maybe we can get something out of him for his final year. Talent isn't the issue, it's motivation. Real immature, huge party animal, etc. He'll be able to play right away because of the "Reggie Bush Rule".

    Peter King:

Miami must have done something right. The national media is hesitant.

Well, it is a career risk for Fisch, typically the next move in his progression would be a NFL OC job, but with the lockout he is making the move to Miami instead, gutsy move on his part, and rare.

I hope so, his brief stint as University of Minnesota's OC wasn't good but he has gotten high regards from NFL coaches and players for his work as a coaching assistant in the NFL for QBs and WRs.

We might now be done taking Seattle coaches as Pat Ruel seems to be the top candidate for OL coach.

Running backs should like that, zone blocking does produce results.

If you think the labor strife is going to continue into the season, then taking a college job is NOT a weird move.

King is commenting on going to UM, not going to college, as evidenced by a later tweet:

It looks like they got another commit. Carroll's tweeted "Welcome to the U" this morning and that means they landed a recruit. Maybe Ayles?

A lot of people have been going crazy over this on other boards. I think he just meant that to Jedd Fisch because the other part of the tweet was talking about the staff or something like that.

In recruiting news, Marlin Lane and Clemson have parted ways apparently over some legal issue that Lane had in December that Clemson uncovered (supposedly caught and arrested with weed). He's a 4 star RB that the Canes hosted on an official visit last weekend and some think Miami is his top choice now but I don't know if Golden would take him after this supposed legal trouble came up.

Big weekend of official visits starting tomorrow. Can't wait to see if some kids commit on the visit.

That was my impression too—he was referring to Fisch.

I think a couple might. This is going to be a big recruiting class.

Anthony Chickillo is a no-show at USF. Has a UM visit scheduled for next weekend. Golden wants him big-time. Looks like a very likely commit.

I talked to a coach who worked with Golden and he said this:

"Have worked with Golden personally when he was at UVA.. He is an INSANE recruiter and a great defensive coach.

Golden will do very, very well at Miami."

He's wanted to be a Cane for a long time. Lets see Golden seal the deal....

He would be a 3rd generation 'Cane.....I would be shocked if he goes elsewhere.

Being that he once was a verbal committ, I would be too but it's going to be totally up to Golden to sell it.

The qoute is from early December but you never know what a young kid thinks...

This is clearly not the case. Sounds like speculation wrapped up as a report.

I’d be shocked if Chickillo doesn’t commit to UM.

Unless he is STILL a verbal committ, nothing is clear. He was a verbal as far back as Sept. that I know. So if he had second thoughts because Shannon was fired that seems to be on a fence to me...

Like I said though, that article was back in early December.

It sounds to me like the writer just applied the boilerplate “college coaching change means the recruits bail” template to Chickillo. But Chickillo isn’t blowing off other schools because he doesn’t want to come to Miami.

He looks like a lock to me.
