The following isn't my post nor can I claim it as any of my information but I got it from another Canes board and wanted to share that posters post with the Cane fans here. Lengthy but a great one.

I attended a Miami alumni/booster event in Chicago last night where Coach Shannon was the lead speaker, along with Russell Maryland, Greg Olson, and Ted Hendricks. Coach Whipple, Coach Stoutland, and Coach McGriff were also present but did not speak to the audience.

Coach Shannon was introduced by a Miami alumnus from ESPN (can't remember his name). He talked about Shannon's accomplishments - he coached 13 defensive 1st round draft picks from Miami, coached in 11 bowl games, voted Most Inspirational Player his senior year in 1988, called a "coach on the field" by Jimmy Johnson, was 4th in tackles, sacks, and tackles for loss as a Senior, while leading the team in broken passes and forced fumbles. He talked about his integrity, values, and how his human spirit affects everyone around him.

Shannon said Chicago was one of his favorite places to speak, and one of the only places he speaks outside of S FL. He said the Chicago alumni are great people who strongly support the program.

He talked about the direction of the program and he said the first thing he had to do as head coach was change the culture. He said the first year was tough going 5-6. He said it was hard trying to find 46 guys out of 85 to fill the roster, much less the 72 the NCAA allows to travel to games due to injuries and a lack of pride and love of the game, the University, Miami, and the tradition. He said it was a very young team that lacked direction but they were good kids. He said thatyou can't just recruit by the stars and rankings you've got to recruit kids that are winners from winning programs who have pride in what they do and love for what they do. He said we have those players now and that we now have player leadership.

He talked about going into the Georgia Tech game last year with the chance to win the ACC Championship. He said he was happy and excited to be in that position but that he didn't have leadership from the older players at the time. He said the younger players were the leaders and now those guys have some experience. He said the team is gelling, and there are player leaders and the players are getting better and achieving goals.

He talked about the emphasis on academics and how Miami has been in the top 10 nationally in the APR, #7 this past year, just a couple of points behind Ivy League programs, and #2 in the ACC. He talked about and thanked the academic support staff and how thanks to them he doesn't have to worry about whether a player is going to be academically eligible or not.

He talked about distractions and how there are no off the field distractions and that allows them to focus on academics and football.

He said he expects next year to be a great season, that there's something special going on. We have 10 experienced players back on Offense, 9 on Defense, they have experience in tough games, overtime games, games lost and won on last minute fumbles or interceptions - they have been through it all. He said everyone will be proud of this team next year.

He said he wakes up everyday excited about the opportunity to sell the University of Miami any way he can, any chance he gets, not just in football but academically and in all aspects. He said the hardest thing he has to do to sell UM is that no one outside of S FL knows where it is. They all think it on South Beach with the clubs, or in Overtown next to the Arena. No one knows it's in Coral Gables, among million dollar homes and luxury shopping. He says everyone thinks it's a big school with 35,000 students, not just the 8000 undergrads and they don't realize it costs $48,000 a year.

He invited all of us to do our best at also selling UM, it's fun, challenging, and special. Sell the family aspect. Use every opportunity we get to help Miami continue to be successful. He asked everyone to please help him, help him sell Miami, not just football, but the University.

He said he appreciates the support of the alumni, not just financially, but also the encouragement and supportive comments, calls, letters, emails, her gets. He finished by telling the story of how he was talking to an alumnus about a player he was recruiting and the alumnus mentioned that he knew the player's mother. The player turned out to be Santana Moss.

Next up to speak was Greg Olson, former UM and current Chicago Bears TE. He seemed a little nervous at first speaking to the crowd but it was apparent he got more comfortable as he went on. He said UM is near and dear to his heart, that he met his wife there and they are both graduates. He talked about the recruiting process with Butch Davis and how he signed with Notre Dame but knew as soon as he got to South Bend that he should have gone with Miami, but that it worked out in the end because he transferred to UM.

He talked about how Shannon was a mentor to him even though he wasn't his position coach or even his coordinator. He talked about how he would ask Shannon what he thought about his performance in practice and in games, his routes, and how to get better. He said Shannon was a straight shooter and a "go to" guy and how he always left their discussions with useful and helpful guidance. He said playing at Miami with Shannon as a coach was the reason why he is where he is today in the NFL.

He talked about how all the other players in the NFL ask him about playing for Miami - the culture, how hard the practices and workouts with Swasey are, and how alot of players in the NFL wish they had the chance to have gone to Miami, he mentioned Urlacher. He said even though Miami is currently down, to players in the NFL, Miami is still MIAMI. Players talk about Miami and they are "like WOW". He said players know Miami is coming back, that people who know about and are in the profession of football can see what Shannon is doing. He told a story about how when he went to the Super Bowl the most common question was about Miami and how Shannon is recruiting top talent.

He talked about last year and how all the playmakers on the team were just 5 months from having attended their HS prom. He said winning 7 games with 17 and 18 year olds was impressive given though the transition from HS to college football is much more difficult than the transition from college to the NFL, especially at Miami, and what a dramatic difference he sees in the team in the 2 years Shannon has been HC.

He said he talks to the Miami coaches at least once a week, more than some of his Bears coaches. He said Miami coaches care about the players. He also talked about all the ex-Miami players in the NFL who go down to Miami to work out with and mentor the current players, that there's no other school where that happens to the extent it does at UM.

He talked about how the stigma and misperception about UM was so far from the truth. He told a story about how he made a bet with some other NFL players about Miami's academics and average SAT scores and they couldn't believe how high they were. He said he won the bet. He spoke about how no one outside of the University and program knows the real truth about Miami and the academics, the quality of the people, and how real the family aspect is. He said other schools try to talk about their program or school being a big family but it's not even close to what we have at UM.

He thanked the alumni and talked about how we didn't have to be there but we want to be there, he pointed out some of the alumni and sponsors in attendance including the COO of McDonalds, senior executives from Coca-Cola, etc whose spare time was so limited and valuable but chose to attend the function because of their love for UM.

He finished up with joking how much he misses The Clevelander on South Beach, The Tavern in the Grove, and The Chicken Kitchen.

NFL Hall of Famer Ted Hendricks spoke next. He talked about how he got the nickname "The Mad Stork" at Miami due to his skinny legs. He talked about some of his former Miami teammates and told a story about how one of them knocked out the UF TE during a game and played the next two games with a broken jaw due to the hit he laid on the Gator player.

He spoke about the recruiting process and how his HS coach told the college coaches that his players were off limits until after their season was over. He said he didn't know this and that Florida invited him up for a recruiting trip. He said when he got back, his HS coach asked him if he went to Gainesville that weekend. The coach showed him a 12" stack of recruiting letters and offers that schools had sent to him regarding Hendricks and how every school respected his request not to contact his players until after their season was over. Only Florida violated that and that lack of integrity was what made him not go to Florida and chose the hometown team, Miami.

He finished up by talking about a recent visit he had to a Miami practice/workout and how intense and dedicated the players are and how anxious they were to get the season going.

Next up was the Guest of Honor, Russell Maryland. Russell was hilarious and had the entire room in laughter several times throughout the night.

He talked about the Miami-Chicago connection and all of the Chicago HS players who have played at Miami. He talked about how his experience at Miami has helped him excell in life and as a person. They played a montage of clips and videos of Russells playing days at Miami - tackles, sacks, etc - backed up by "Rock You Like A Hurricane".

They showed an interview clip of Jimmy Johnson back in 1991 about how Russell was the #1 overall draft pick and how he was the cornerstone of Dallas's defense - how Dallas's defense went from mediocre to the #1 D in the NFL, and how that helped them get to 3 Super Bowls.

As I said Russell was funny, he talked about his time at Miami and how he's getting older. He said when he arrived in Miami, he was "sexy then at 17, and he's still sexy 23 years later. I'm still sexy, but some mornings I don't feel so sexy." He talked about how after 5 years at Miami and 10 years in the NFL, his head, his neck, his back, even his toes hurt. Sometimes he feels 60, not 40.

He said he knows Miami is going to do some good things in the near future, that we are infiltrating other schools' backyards in recruiting and that we are opening up the lines to Chicago.

He talked about how he was a "diamond in the rough" coming out of HS. He talked about his parents and how they kept him pointed in the right direction, that he was nonchalant and how his world experience was limited to his neighborhood until he was 17 and went to Miami. He talked about how Indiana State was the only Div-1 school that offered him a scholarship at first and how he took a 6 hour bus ride to Terre Haute to see the campus. After he got back from the trip he told his dad that Indiana State offered him a scholarship but his dad said "no', that there are bigger things in store for him.

He talked about how important it was to have a good reputation, that your name and word means everything. He joked about how Michelle Obama went to his HS and how she "tried to date me". He reminded everyone that he was"more sexy" in HS, then joked that he better quit lying or the Secret Service would be knocking on his door in the middle of the night for spreading lies about The First Lady.

He said that little did he know that he'd end up in Coral Gables, that he wasn't a blue chip player, just mediocre, just another guy, but his mom and dad saw more in him. He said his dad told him he would pay for him to go to college if he had to and that he was planning to go to Morehouse College until his parents sent some game tapes of him out. Then he said those people sent tapes to other people people before one of his tapes finally got to the Miami coaches. He said they asked about him and the first thing people would say about him is that "at least he'll graduate". He said Miami offered him their last scholarship and it's been a blessing ever since. He said Miami offered him the springboard in his life, and that if you're willing to work hard academically and athletically, Miami will prepare you for anything in life. He talked about what a strong school it is, how strong the people are, how they get things done.

He said life is all about family and the U is all about family. He talked about how he looks back and reflects on his life, everything he is and has is due to his mom. He said even though he was being honored tonight, all the honor belongs to his mother.

There were alot of tears and lumpy throats in the audience at this point. My wife commented to me that she hopes she can be such an influence on our kids that they will one day think the same of her.

He finished with some stories from his Miami days. He talked about how the first time he saw Ted Hendricks he was in awe of him because he was an NFL HOF'er and the legendary "Mad Stork". He said he was like" wow, look there's the Mad Stork eating a candy bar", in awe of anything he did when he would come back to the training room to work out with the team.

He said it was an obligation for us as alumni and them as former players to pass down the tradition of excellence, that is what the U is all about.

He said Shannon was one of the most inspirational people he's ever met even though he's not a talker and is often quiet. He said as a player, Shannon would always come to practice with something different, a tail taped to his pants, eyes painted on the back of his helmet, a goattee taped to his facemask, etc. He said he thought Shannon was either "really brilliant or really ******ed", until he asked him why he did stuff like that. Shannon told him that it helped him get through Miami's grueling practices, the pain, and the heat. After that, he was convinced Shannon was brilliant.

After that we took a 5 minute break before going into a Q/A session with Shannon, Olson, Russell, and Hendricks.

Unfortunately, Whipple, Stoutland and McGriff didn't speak or get up front for the Q/A panel.

Once thing that did happen during the course of the evening, I think when Russell was speaking, Stoutland answered a cellphone call and was speaking kind of loud and boistrous while Russell was talking to the audience. At first, I and alot of people around us thought that he was being rude but we realized it was a recruit that was calling and he was telling him where he was and who was in attendance.

Notes from the Q/A session...

Shannon was asked about the QB position. He said the QB position is great, JH had a great spring and pointed out his 17 of 18 completions during one of the scrimmages. He said Whipple has done a great job with the QB's and how Taylor Cook has improved immensely as the #2 QB. He talked about Cook's committment to improving and that he'll continue to improve.

Shannon was asked about the 2-minute drill in 2009 (referring to the Emerald Bowl disaster obviously). That question brought out a few laughs and groans. Shannon responded by saying "you can call it." He said we won't have that problem this year.

Shannon, Olson, Maryland, and Hendricks were each asked who was most instrumental in them getting to the NFL.

Olson talked about Shockey and Winslow coming back and how when he worked out and practiced against them you compare yourself against those who have made it, how you measure yourself against them. He talked about the competition at Miami, how you have to go all out every day, every practice or you will lose your position to the guy behind you. He said that after being at Miami, after Miami's practices, workouts and going against other Miami players, nothing in the NFL takes you by surprise. You show up in the NFL prepared, often having played against teammates who are better than the opposing team's players.

It was brought up that during the last NFL Pro Bowl, Miami had 7 former players invited, more than from any other college team.

Hendricks responded next. He talked about how when he was drafted he was only 215lbs at 6' 7". He was told he was too skinny by the NFL scouts. He was drafted by the Baltimore Colts after expecting to be drafted by the Dolphins. He said there were 2 All-Pro LB's in front of him in Baltimore. He said at first he thought there would be no way he could make the team but he went out there everyday and did the best job he could. He said having people tell him he couldn't do it made him want to work harder and prove them wrong.

Maryland talked about the influence the late Jerome Brown had on him. He said Brown would cut him down and slap him around, but turn around and help him get better. He said after Brown left and went to the NFL he realized he could do the same thing. He also talked about Cortez Kennedy, how good of friends they are and how they still talk on a weekly basis. He said Kennedy told him he could get to the NFL because the practices at Miami are tougher than those in the league.

Shannon and Maryland were asked what it was like being on the 86/87 Miami teams, Russell was a RS Freshman and Shannon was a starter. Maryland said the team was full of crazy guys, real characters. Maryland said it would take all night to talk about that team and asked what time it was. He got a big laugh from the crowd. Russell said he was nothing but a blocking dummy those years and how he lost 60 lbs his first year because all they did was"whipped" him up and "jacked" him up, and that "it wasn't ffunny". He talked about how he acted like a "little girl" when he walked into the training/workout room and saw guys like Testeverde and Irvin in there working out because of how great they were.

Shannon talked about when they played Oklahoma during the regular season and how Melvin Bratton and Alonzo Highsmith got Brian Bozworths room phone number at the Fountainbleu the night before the game. They called his room at 3am and said this is Melvin and Alonzo and he didn't believe him and that he was hanging up. They said don't hang up, we'll just keep calling you all night. Alonzo told Boz that he was going to knock his helmet off during the game the following day. He did. Shannon finished by saying the team was full of characters, great guys, good fun guys.

Maryland was asked what it was like going to Miami after having grown up and lived in a certain teams back yard - Notre Dame. He talked about how many sacks he got against Tony Rice and how the "Catholics vs Convicts" bugged him because he grew up playing in the Chicago Catholic HS football league and how someone figured out that there were really more kids from Catholic schools on Miami's team than on ND's team. He said his dad worked for Chrysler at the time and had to travel around the midwest alot including South Bend. His dad wanted him to go to ND and during a business trip he went to South Bend and Gerry Faust gave him some hightop cleats with the ND log on them. He said he wore them all the time to school and everyone would ooh and aah over them. He joked it was a recruiting violation. He said Faust was recruiting him but when Faust left and Holtz came in all he heard from ND was "crickets".

Someone asked another question about one of the Oklahoma games when Jerome Brown inadvertently broke Troy Aikman's leg.

Shannon was also asked about his trip last year to the Middle East to visit the troops. He said it was tough, no sleep, 15 hour flight, didn't know where he was - the military wouldn't tell him for security reasons. 102 degrees F at 4am. He finished by saying how much he appreciates the military and all that they do, how he's proud to be an American and he's proud of the military and our soldiers.

Shannon then offered a few comments of his own.

He talked about when Greg Olson first came to Miami, how he was high stepping and showboating after plays, how he always wanted the ball. He said after watching Olson in Chicago that he's still the same, just older, married, and soon having kids.

He said Ted Hendricks was a real inspiration to the team during his playing days. How he'd come work out with the team with his huge forearms and show them technique. He said Hendricks was an unbelievable athelete and could have gotten a scholarship in 4 sports.

Shannon talked about the game versus Michigan, how Maryland told the team that they had to hold Michigan. He said they used to call Maryland "Mr. 1000" cause he squated 595 and benched 405. He said Maryland told the team "ain't nobody moving on Mr. 1000" and they didn't.

Shannon finished with saying that competition and inspiration is what made Miami. He said all of us were doubted and that their goal was to prove them wrong and that's what Miami is all about. "We will be the victor and take pride in it."

A young boy, probably 6 or so, asked the panel what they remembered most about their time in Miami.

Maryland answered first and jokingly said the "beach", he explained that he never went to the beach because he spent all his time in the library. He said he strongest memory was of the library because if he came home with bad grades he'd get a "butt whipping 1500 miles away in Chicago". He said some people could manage school, football, and partying, but he couldn't.

His mom pointed out that his nickname was "The Conscience" because he was the one telling the guys that they needed to go to the library and study all the time. He said guys like Mike Sullivan, Rob Chud, and Cristobal were just naturally smart academically but wanted to party too. Maryland joked to his mother in the audience and asked her if "she was ready to go home now" and jokingly asked "you happy, Mom."

It was pointed out that last season, there were 32 graduates from Miami in the NFL, the most of any school (+ the guys that left early, the most overall in the NFL).

Hendricks pointed out that he had to go to the library too, but he preferred the "stacks" side of the library where it was quiet and he could concentrate in isolation from the rest of the Richter library.

Shannon said his greatest memory was just being around all the great guys. He told a story about one summer he spent rooming with Cortez Kennedy and how every night he pushed the couch into the kitchen and slept on it in front of the refrigerator so Kennedy couldn't get into it and eat in the middle of the night. He said when they were with the Cowboys (the "Miami Cowboys"), he would go with Kennedy everywhere after practice. He said Kennedy would tell him he was going to his girlfriends house but Shannon would go with him anyway because he knew Kennedy wasn't going to his girlfriends house but rather out to eat "30 chicken wings". After Shannon left the Cowboys, he said Maryland took over for him. He said it was all about helping a friend achieve their goal.

Olson talked about his best memory next and said it was Wednesdays during the summer. He said Wednesday was their "day off". All the players would get up at 5am and go stretch, jump rope, etc for 45 minutes and then they'd all head over to Jackson's in Overtown. He said they'd all pile into cars, 8 guys to a car, because only a few players had cars and they'd take over the restaurant at 7 in the morning.

He then said his other best memory was of this girl who stalked him. She'd follow him to class, follow him to practice, call him, text him, etc until finally he "let her take me out". He ended up marrying her, which got a big laugh because he was talking about his wife who was sitting next to him.

Someone asked Maryland about the 2 INT's he got in his NFL career. He said it's a lineman's dream to touch the ball. He said his first INT was against Chicago during Mike Singleterry's last game with the Bears. He shot past the OL and hit the RB during the handoff and the ball bobbled into his hands. He got into the endzone and thought he's got to do some kinda dance or something like everyone else does, so he thinks about dunking the ball over the goalposts. He tries jumping and gets 6" off the ground, realizes he not going to makes it, pretends he intentionally wanted to flip it over his back and falls down on the ground.

He talked about a fumble recovery he had against Green Bay in Lambeau, he said he tried to do the "Lambeau Leap" and couldn't even get 6" off the ground that time cause he was 10 years older and his belly hit the wall and he slid back down. He said his teammates tried to lift him up but the play was ruled down and it wasn't a TD anyway.

Don't worry the Gators Baseball team is very up and down and I can see this ending soon. Hopefully not tho. Yeah the Canes basketbal team was relly weird. I watched there games and some they looked like top 5 and other you ask yourself what there doing on the court. Really weird

Sean Taylor murder trial has been delayed again!

The trial date for four of the five men charged with the killing of Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor has been postponed for a third time.

The new date is Jan. 18, 2010, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday. The trial was scheduled to begin this month.

"We don't think there will realistically be a trial before next spring," Terry Chavez, the Miami-Dade state attorney's office spokesperson, told The Post.

Police said Taylor was a victim of a botched robbery when he was shot in his bedroom on Nov. 26, 2007, in the Miami suburb of Palmetto Bay. He died of massive blood loss a day later. The All-Pro player was 24.

Four of the accused -- Charles Wardlow, 19, Jason Scott Mitchell, 21, Timmy Lee Brown, 17, and the alleged gunman, Eric Rivera, 19 -- appeared in a Miami courtroom on Tuesday for a hearing. All have pleaded not guilty and are being held without bail.

Really. What a complete waste for a guy to better himself by going to college and on to a professional football career, only to get killed by the type of guys his mom tried to keep him away from growing up.

Previously, UM used an all-type logo that featured the word ''Miami'' in large letters with a smaller ''University of'' above it and a thick line underneath.

We all know the story with Bryce Brown and his recruiting fiasco. Shannon never went after Jamal Berry very hard and it ticked some of the fans off, looks like he was right in the end since the OSU signee just got busted with with an ounce of weed...

I was watching a Cowboys classic game yesterday and I was watching Roger Staubach drop back in the pocket. I thought he looked a lot like Jacory. Both have small, long arms but can throw the deep ball pretty well and both have the ability to scramble.

New Offensive Coordinator Has No. 30 Miami Excited

Before spring practice began, Miami left tackle Jason Fox sat in on some coaches meetings to get a read on new offensive coordinator Mark Whipple.

It didn't take long for Whipple to say what Fox wanted to hear. Whipple described how the offense would be unbeatable because the team will learn a way around any defensive front or coverage.

"It's, 'You do what you do, and we'll do what we do. And we're going to beat you,' " Fox said. "That's basically his mentality, and we're trying to make it our offense's mentality right now."

Whipple and first-year defensive coordinator John Lovett have injected enthusiasm at Miami, which for the past several years has failed to live up to the program's rich heritage.

Players struggle to describe why the team has gone 19-19 over the past three seasons, including a 7-6 record in 2008. They hope coach Randy Shannon has found an answer in Whipple and Lovett after former offensive coordinator Patrick Nix was fired and defensive coordinator Bill Young left for Oklahoma State after one season.

"Believe me, we have pride around here and we carry ourselves like (previous Hurricane teams) did," said Miami safety Randy Phillips. "We had the talent, but we didn't have the right pieces in the right spots, whether it was coaching or players or quarterback or different things like that. We felt like we were missing something. But this year we feel like we've got everything."...

Although I have little faith in Randy Shannon as a Coach (great recruiter, bad teacher, terrible game-day coach) I still can't help being excited for this season.

Ok it's been debated ad nauseam on local talk radio - so I came up with the wonderful idea to bring it here: What's our record going to be??

7-5 seems to be the popular pick, some say 8-4 and others have gone as far as 10-2. The question was posed to me this morning and after some thinking I came up with 9-3 with losses to Oklahoma, VTech and Clemson.

I see us playing a spread offense this year with Jacory in the shotgun a lot. That may sound blasphemous since it's not traditional Hurricane football but I believe coach Whipple looks at the WR's and QB and decides the best way to get the ball in the endzone is to air it out.

Should be interesting to see how the Canes start the season. Shannon postponing those contract talks was pretty risky with the tough 4 games you have to open the season. Losing a couple games at the beginning of the season can be tough on a young team. Love to see them pull off some upsets though, especially OU.

On the other hand if we can find a way to win all of those games, or even just three, it's a huge boost for the rest of the season. We'll have to see what happens.

Very true, although when you consider you have your top rival, the team that put up almost 500 rushing yards against you last season, the team that seems to be in the conference championship game every season, and the team coming off a National Championship loss, thats a pretty tough start. High risk, high reward.

Right now, and I tend to be overly optimistic in the preseason, the only one I'm worried about is the OU game. And if we go undefeated in those first four games, I'd hate to waste the season losing on a 'bad game day' to somebody like Duke. So I'll go with 11-1.

I am going with 9-3. There is no way u guys come out of this 11-1. Jacory Harris is going to struggle and that will cost u guys a few games. Alot of other teams our alot better too. You guys have the toughest 4 game stretch since the Gztors 4 game stretch in 06. I dont think the Canes can beat Oklahoma but the canes played well vs the Gators spread. Georgia Tech is scary with that option. Miss a few tackles and it could get ugly quick. I like 9-3 with losses to Oklahoma. V Tech, and Georgia Tech.

You guys will beat FSU easy if u can stop Ponder from running when he scrambles. He will not have many targets to throw too

Greg Cooper injured.

"CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Running back Graig Cooper is Miami's newest injury concern.

Cooper missed the Hurricanes' practice Tuesday morning with an apparent lower right leg injury. He was wearing a protective boot.

The severity was not immediately clear.

The junior has been Miami's leading rusher in each of his first two seasons. He ran for 841 yards last year and scored touchdowns four ways -- rushing, receiving, passing and returning."

Growing up in the whole "confidence" UM era, I don't mind playing teams that are "better" than us. I invite it. You have to beat the best to be the best right?

Former Northwestern players maintain bond at UM

They arrived as comrades, seven UM freshmen bound by their neighborhoods, football fields and a high school team deemed the nation's best. Harris, Johnson, Spence, Forston, Tommy Streeter, Kendal Thompkins and Ben Jones -- seven superlative players who earned a consensus national championship at Miami Northwestern High and then made a pact to do the same in college.

They haven't disappointed.

Four members of the Bulls brigade turned heads from coast to coast with the Hurricanes, garnering national accolades and plenty of attention along the way. Three others, plus a new arrival, await their turns this season. Receivers Streeter and Thompkins each were injured, had surgery and were redshirted. Jones, a 6-5, 300-pound offensive lineman, played on the scout team and also redshirted.

``I can't wait to get back on the field with those guys,'' said the 6-5, 209-pound Streeter, who had a wrist injury. ``It's going to bring back a lot of memories. Hopefully, we can make plays like we once did in high school.''

An eighth Northwestern Bull, 6-4, 330-pound offensive lineman Brandon Washington, enrolled at UM in January after attending Milford (N.Y.) Academy Prep School.

Well, we're down to two qb's. Taylor Cook and Cannon Smith are out, according to ESPN News. They both requested to transfer. We've still got A.J. Highsmith, a true freshman, as our only backup. I had high hopes for Cook, guy is 6' 7" and 235 lbs, he could see over everybody. Totally sucks, but we've still got a helluva good team.

Thought I'd pass along alittle tidbit I heard on a Gator board about this situation. Highsmith's cousin is a regular poster there and said one of the main reasons those two left was coach Shannon and that Highsmith himself wasn't a big fan of the coach either. Don't know how much of that is true, but interesting nonetheless after the Marve "incident".

Interesting... did he elaborate at all? Or just say that Coach Shannon is not popular? Meaning do they think he can't coach? or just his personality rubs people the wrong way? I am not trying to stir crap... just curious as to why they did/do not like him.

The Marve "incident" boils down to the kid not wanting to compete. He wanted the job handed to him and that's just not the way it works at Div 1 programs.

Possibly, but I'm sure there was alot more to it than that, especially after these two guys left. I mean lets be honest here, Shannon doesn't have the best track record with QBs.

There may have been more to it but Marve still handled it poorly. One factor was he wanted the job handed to him...we know he didn't like competing with Harris. What the other factors were....who knows. The job would have been 100% his if he won it.
