The comment about Wallace feeling more comfortable b/c of his WCO experience at San Diego State is encouraging. It's been talked about that some WRs may not play as well as in the past simply b/c they're bad fits, don't get it, etc. I believe this true, but the reverse is also true. Some WRs may play better b/c they're finally in an offense that is a good fit for them.

I can buy that in a general way. Also Marlon Moore has echoed the same sentiment, as he came from a WCO at Fresno State.

What I don't buy is that Roberto Wallace is turning some corner and suddenly will be a good player. I get that a few people are talking about him, especially guys that aren't used to seeing him (David Garrard, James Walker). But if I'm going to believe that's anything other than the "bus" effect I was talking about earlier, I'm going to have to see it for myself in games.

Two games on the active roster, three games not even dressed, zero tackles and according to Pro Football Focus, a penalty. I change my mind. He was awesome.

    Back in Miami
Robert Baker approves of this message.

There are pre pad training camp superstars yearly.

Out of the young WR's weve been trying to groom Wallace is the one I'd most like to see "turn the corner".
That said, I'm not going to get excited about mini camp reports.

Given Smith's pick-6 and the other big PBU he had that could've been another pick, that tweet seems a little tongue-in-cheek to me.

It's not unheard of for a UDFA or late rd pick to take yrs to develop, and Wallace has the best tool box of our current developmental players.

BUT, it is merely a minicamp, no reason to get excited..however it is better to show out then to not even be mentioned...Clyde Gates comes to mind..

The problem is that whenever the coaches want something screwed in Wallace pulls out a ratchet. It's a top of the line ratchet, but not close to what is needed.

Matt Moore starting with the 1st unit today. Yesterday Garrard said that the media just happen to be at the sessions where he's with the 1st unit but that he and Moore were splitting those 1st unit reps evenly. Barry Jackson confirmed it and said that the one that's not getting many reps with the 1st unit is Ryan Tannehill.

Moore already threw another floater that was tipped up by Sean Smith and nearly picked off by Kevin Burnett.

Roberto Wallace and Clyde Gates were his starting receivers, today.

Jon Martin has been elevated to 1st unit and is playing along side Artis Hicks. There goes Omar's pet theory that the Dolphins are putting John Jerry and Jon Martin together on the 2nd unit on purpose because they'll be a package deal, or whatever he was trying to imply.

Omar thinks Artis Hicks is entrenching himself as the starter at Right Guard because he notices coaches are using Artis as the example in pulling drills. Interesting to me because from what I saw of Artis when he played guard in Washington, he's really an average puller at best. Much better getting out to the 2nd level on zone plays than at pulling.

    June 20th mini camp updates

Brian Biggane‏@bbigganeWR Brian Hartline only no-show at Day 2 of #Dolphins minicamp, being held in the bubble with rain pouring down outside.

    Omar Kelly‏@OmarKelly
Matt Moore is the starting quarterback for Wednesday's practice. Clyde Gates and Roberto Wallace appear to be his receivers.

    Brian Biggane‏@bbiggane
Matt Moore expected to get most snaps with first group after David Garrard did so yesterday. #Dolphins

    Omar Kelly‏@OmarKelly
Roberto Wallace, Jeff Fuller and Legedu Naanee are the Dolphins' biggest receivers. They are in order.

    Brian Biggane‏@bbiggane
G Artis Hicks and T Jonathan Martin manning the right side of #Dolphins line with first team.

    Omar Kelly‏@OmarKelly
Sean Smith and Mr. Kevin Burnett just dropped a interception from Matt Moore on a floater. Smith tipped it up.

    Omar Kelly‏@OmarKelly
Reshad Jones and Chris Clemons remain the starting safeties. I thought they might rotate them like the quarterbacks.

    Omar Kelly‏@OmarKelly
Dan Carpenter has kicked three straight 40-yard field goals. He makes it look easy all the time.

    Omar Kelly‏@OmarKelly
During a special teams drill the receivers are working on catching the ball while tight roping the sidelines, & other catching drills.

    Omar Kelly‏@OmarKelly
Rookie tackle Dustin Waldron fits the lean and athletic mold the Dolphins want for their offensive linemen.

    Omar Kelly‏@OmarKelly
I'm sensing Artis Hicks is the right guard to beat now considering he's being used as an example during pulling drills.

Well, this is yr 3 for him, if he does not have it by now, he won't ever get it.

He was really raw coming from SDSU but the skillset is definitely there.

His other problem is Sparano was coaching scared.

Well, let me give you a for instance. A couple of times I've posted something big here and then I've gone to FinHeaven and found that BAMAPHIN has started a thread and copied/pasted over there what I wrote here, with zero attribution as if he did the work. I'm sure he's just doing whatever he can for that site in order to put better content. But it was still rude and I went over there and called him out on it, PM'd all the mods, asked for them to take action, etc.

Gotta be in the habit of crediting people, IMO...even if it's a different message board.

    http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl-dolphins-mini-camp-report-0620,0,629161.story?page=1

DAVIE— One-liners from Miami Dolphins beat reporters Omar Kelly and Izzy Gould today at Day 2 of mini camp:

-- I was fooled a little by the talk about Ryan Tannehill knows the offense. Big deal! The speed of the NFL game is eating him up right now.

-- There's one more practice to go, but AT THIS POINT, based on what I've seen in OTAs & minicamp, Miami has a two QB race for starting spot.

-- RT @ochocinco: I look good... I feel good... I can breathe again...I'm walking with my head high...not questioning myself... damn he's back

Sign up for sports text alerts. Click here to find out how

-- Joe Philbin acknowledged he purposely had Jonathan Martin going against Cameron Wake today for the lessons it produced. Wasn't pretty.

-- "We're looking for the most consistent player. I don't know if we have a great option," Joe Philbin said of O-line's right side.

-- Joe Philbin said the Dolphins are just experimenting on the right side of the O-line right now.

-- "I think it is fantastic," Philbin said of the Heat. "It's a big enough city to see everyone do well."

-- "Time will tell how good of a fit he is," Joe Philbin said of Reggie Bush. "He's got good hands and is good in space."

-- "The thing we look for in a leader is a guy who sets a great example," Philbin said."U want a guy who cares about people, not just himself"

-- "We have to watch the tape to see who provoked the situation," Joe Philbin said of the fights. "We have to play hard, and be smart."

-- Sean Smith broke up an end zone pass to Chad Ochocinco. Smith gets to hold his head high for a day.

-- I also have Olivier Vernon sacking Matt Moore. The rookie from UM has a productive day on Wednesday.

-- The very next play for Ryan Tannehill he was sacked by Olivier Vernon. Rookie on rookie crime.

-- During Ryan Tannehill's one 11-on-11 drive his first pass was an interception he threw right into Cameron Collins body.

-- Either Jared Odrick is a problem, or Jonathan Martin needs some work. But Odrick does move, and he's active often.

-- Davone Bess caught a beautiful, diving one-handed catch from Matt Moore for 35 yards. Bess looks like Bess.

-- Roberto Wallace made a couple of nice catches from Matt Moore today. Still not seeing what I'm looking for though.

-- With that said, the winner of today's quarterback battle is..... Matt Moore. Ryan Tannehill didn't get into the mix much.

-- During Ryan Tannehill's one 11-on-11 drive his first pass was an interception he threw right into Cameron Collins body.

-- Matt Moore's unit did better than David Garrard's during 11-on-11. He lead the team to a FG. Garrard threw and INT on a great pass.

-- Reshad Jones responded by giving Jake Long the finger.

Jake Long had a "don't (bleeping) touch the quarterback (bleep) hole" speech for Reshad Jones after he produced a would-be sack on Garrard.

-- Jonathan Martin gave up a sack that included a forced fumble on Matt Moore. Not sure who got it, but I saw Tony McDaniel celebrating.

-- During an 11-on-11 situational drive Chad @Ochocinco caught a 17-yard pass from Matt Moore and his RAC got it to the 5-yard line.

-- Kelcie McCray made a nice interception on a ball Marlon Moore caught then threw up when he got blasted.

-- "I expect us to be a little bit more fast paced, spread the ball around more. Throughout camp we'll find an identity," TE Anthony Fasano

-- "Tight end is an important position in this offense," Anthony Fasano said. "We're asked to do some things in the passing game."

-- "Great athlete, smart kid, eager," Anthony Fasano said of Jonathan Martin. "He's learning quick & I think he's going to improve."

-- Charles Clay made some amazing, drive moving catches. But he also had three drops.

-- Today's practice featured two fights. Olivier Vernon vs Jake Long and Richie Incognito vs. Ryan Baker. Good stuff.

-- Davone Bess was the top performer of today's minicamp practice. Made two major catches.

Not just Tannehill, but I worried about our 2nd round pick as well, I didn't have Martin rated as a first round pick after watching a lot of his games, I thought that his strength and balance did not warrant a first round grade, nothing I've read so far makes me think that projection was to far off, obviously I want to see him in games, but recently I watched every snap from 1 game of his after reading an article on how good Nick Perry from USC is looking in packer camp.

When USC and Stanford went up against each other, Martin and Perry went head to head most of the game...I didn't like what I saw, you won't see it in the stats dept for Perry, but Martin was beaten all game when they matched up, and really, if it weren't for the brilliance of Andrew Luck, the stat sheet would of matched the game Martin produced. It really wasn't close.

I do not care who the rookie is, going up against Wake is a load, especially with no pads on. Martin will be fine and as I said, if Jerry does not lose a ton of weight by the time training camp starts he will not be on the team any longer. Defense always has had the advantage with no pads on and again, a new RS of an offensive line is going to be hard to watch for a little while.

My big question is which one is going to make the game day roster, Garner or Murtha or for that fact, which one is even going to make the roster.

As far as usning Hicks as an example to pull ? Doubt it. Hicks is a decent player but the term " pulling guard " was never in his resume. Jerry could probably pull better if he wasn't 40 lbs overweight. Kid better get smart and get in shape or he will be bouncing around the league looking for a job. Tony would probably pick him up in NY and put him on the game day inactive list.

He's the type that if he drank too much he'd start crying and asking if you like him.

It seems Vernon is playing the right side (LT)... The fact that he's frustrating Long is a good sign.

Olivier Vernon is going to play the right defensive end position because they've already made it clear they see him coming on the field in nickel situations and in pass rush situations as the defensive end opposite Cameron Wake. On important pass rush plays, Cameron Wake always rushes over the left side because that's the side he's most comfortable with even going back to the CFL, as I recall.

Was listening to Philbin's presser at work, so I wasn't giving it my full attention, but I believe he said that he purposefully had Wake lined up over Jonathan Martin a lot today. Have to remember, Martin's learning a new side of the OL, hasn't been there for most of the offseason stuff, and Cameron Wake is well, pretty good.

I understand, I just think that the perception is that he was a legit first round talent, and that we got a steal, and he will be our opening day starter..I think he went where his talent dictated.
