Good solid win today. I thought Andrew Robertson was impressive. His first game. Whipping in quality balls from the left flank. Something we didn't have all of last season. It really makes a difference when you're up against a team playing like CP were: Playing not to concede the first goal.

Certainly the lack of a Coutinho in the lineup today, the creativity and one on one brilliance was missed. And you just can't sell him and expect to be competitive in the PL and CL.

I thought Sadio Mane was absolutely brilliant today. Man of the match for me. He does everything so well and just pours everything into it. He's the perfect kind of player for Klopp and this front line. I felt Firmino was more of a factor once Sturridge came out for Salah. And once Solanke came in, slip into that 10 role in a 4-2-3-1 look.

And Matip was very very solid today at the back going up against Benteke. Klavan did well to (except for that breakdown in his box against Loftus-Cheek where Benteke missed an absolute sitter).

Gomez played decent too. IT wasn't too big for him. He looks very calm at the back. He did have a couple of bad touches going forward. But he's a good looking player IMO. I think you could put him as a RCB with Matip and Klavan the others in a back three. Llavan is solid at the back when on the ball. Not scared of it.

Not a fan of having Gini, Hendo and Milner on the field at the same time. Too similar in that respect in the MF possession.

I expected the changes coming into this game as you can't play the same lineup with these Hoffenheim games sprinkled in. It'll be interesting to see the lineup we go with on Wednesday with Arsenal on the horizon next in the PL.

    I would like:

    Firmino/Solanke/Salah
    Gini/Henderson/Can
    Robertson/Klavan/Matip/TAA

I reckon you'd rest Mane and perhaps keep him out of the lineup unless he's needed late in the game for a goal (which shouldn't happen considering).

Robertson had a monster match I felt. He easily should have had a goal and assist that game, something I can never remember thinking Moreno could produce in a single game. Pretty much agree with everything you said about last weeks match.

There is absolutely no way we don't put out the best possibly lineup for tonight match, its basically a final to get into the group stage and we can't mess this up. I hope we put this match away in the first half and we can truly enjoy it in the second half. The good thing is the Hoffenheim shouldn't be packing it in and play open football like they did last week, which almost always playing into how Liverpool plays nowadays.

    LETS GO REDS!!! YNWA!!

Well that was a hell of a game. Lots of goals, Can's second was a thing of beauty!! Defense worried me giving up those easy goals, and both of them on Lovern.... we really need to somehow figure out a way to sign VVD.

Unbelievable luck in our group draw, there should be no reason that we can't win that group. Now just need to put Arsenal away before international break and I'd consider this a great start to the season. Hopefully we get a few more signings, especially VVD.

Yeah, I think we matchup well with Arsenal, so I'm expecting a win on Sunday. They are supposed to be getting Sanchez back for that game, although I'll believe it when I see it. I can't fathom how we're putting all our eggs in one basket at CB and only chasing VVD. Supposedly Chelsea are in pole position there. Which means we should have a plan B. We're not even looking at Ben Gibson or Jonny Evans. Just going to let Man City walk right in there and have their pick. Rumored to be looking at Howedes from the Bundesliga, would be okay but I'm agreeing with you on Lovren. He's just not solid enough at the back.

Big time luck out at the CL draw. Although no team should be taken lightly, of course. Sevilla is a nice rematch from a couple of seasons ago. Will be a good barometer for us considering what happened last time. The Russian side shouldn't be taken lightly either, they'll likely have refs on their side given the World Cup in 2018 going there and all.

What a match!! Literally everyone excluding Karius, played amazing! Defense was solid, and that attack.... So much fun watching them play. Bobby was amazing, and that goal for Sturridge could pay huge dividends in the future. I could write a novel on that game, Such beautiful football!! Great week of football for Liverpool.

I hope we didnt place all our eggs in with VVD...

I have so much to say about the game yesterday, will say it tonight hopefully. But wanted to get in the word about LFC signing Naby Keita, they have agreed terms however he won't become an LFC player officially until next summer. I wonder if we'd do the same thing with Coutinho and Barcelona.

We've also put in a large bid for Monaco's Lemar. Another left footed player with speed. But he can also play in the middle. I love love love how we're looking at players with speed. Which is all well and good IF we're playing with a lead (as you saw how devastating that was yesterday on the counter)

I don't think there is anyway we does this with Coutinho. Leipzig was going to lose Keita no matter what next year since he has a 48m release clause, Coutinho doesn't have a release clause and with a monster year he can easily bring in more money on transfer to Barca. Read that we paid a slight premium to secure the signing, but at least no we don't have to get into a bidding war with other clubs if Keita has a monster year again as well.

I saw the bid on Lemar, and think it will be good signing as well. I just really really hope we somehow end up VVD, Lovern is like Jykle/Hyde, never know how he is going to play.

The VVD stuff is nuts, following it a bit on twitter. They've got people tracking planes and matching cars to LFC official vehicles at the airport

Circling back on the Arsenal match. Really got upset by how much grief they were getting as opposed to praise heaped on LFC. I mean it's like this every time we kick the **** out of Arsenal, which has been a regular occurrence lately. Yet, when they go and win the FA Cup or have some success somewhere else, they are described as this top 4 contender and Wenger is back and bla bla bla. Talk about not having perspective. Yeah, it's only LFC that make the pundits upset at Arsenal's prospects. Give me a break. It should tell you that Arsenal are on their way down and LFC are very much on their way up. And LOL @ Raheem Sterling being offered up plus cash for Alexis Sanchez. Oh the irony there!

Ok, enough ranting... what a game... what a complete domination. There were times when Arsenal, down 1-0 and 2-0, that they "tried" to control things. It just didn't happen. You have to credit all eleven at that point. Even Karius :pity: he did have a nice punch on a set play, I'll give him that, but his possession ability under pressure gives me chest pains. Just clear the ****ing ball. More on Klopp's decision to start Karius instead of Simon in a sec. I mean the rest of the team, it's hard not to give them all at least 9's on the rating scale. I don't know what we're going to do with Joe Gomez once TAA and NC are ready to go. He shouldn't be third string RB and hopefully he can get some play in other positions. He makes everything he does look so easy, which is perfect for a defender.

The midfielders, unbelievable work... well believable... Gini was awesome. How many times did he make a challenger look foolish while he was in possession.? Danny Welbeck is still looking for the ball. Emre... sign him up for an extension. Even Henderson (who I think is third best of the three)... but what Henderson gives us is that leadership that the other two do not. That's why he's the captain. He seems to have regained his fitness from before last season. He's an important piece, there's no doubt.

Moreno still scares the crap out of me every time the ball is in our box and he goes sliding in. But it's interesting how much run he's been getting. Robertson though did have a child over the weekend, so he's been busy with that. I'd expect him to be in for our next match (Man City is it?).

What can you say about our front three? So stellar, so fast, so everything right now. Mane and Salah especially, with Firmino dropping back as needed. I'm not sure where Coutinho plays at the moment, and that is a GREAT problem to have assuming he is back.

Oh getting back to the decision to start Karius... I think it has nothing to do with Migs, and everything to do with Danny Ward. He is not a #3, I can tell you that. His manager from last year (Wagner) asking Klopp multiple times about his availability. I reckon Klopp did this to test Karius. And I'm not sure Karius passed the test (he didn't face a shot, so it's difficult to gauge fully, but his ability on the ball was not good). I wouldn't be surprised to see him loaned out. He really needs a run as a #1 and he's not going to get it at LFC this season, I don't think. That's my opinion of course.

Lol someone created a twitter account for the van that was at the airport today, the handle is the license plate number haha. Everything you said is spot on, hadn't really though much on Karius stuff but think you're spot on. I think between all comps we should be able to keep the everyone happy with playing time, and I really see Klopp giving the appropriate plays the right playing time.

Yea they need to wrap up Can's deal before it cost us more in wages lol. Henderson was freaking amazing that game, and totally the right man to Captain the team, just needs to play a full season without getting hurt. He misses to many games due to injuries, think he's missed like 50% of games in last 3 seasons. Moreno will always give us scares I think, but he truly has improved leaps and bounds. His size will still cause us some issues, but more playing like he is and I can live with that, especially if we sign VVD to clean up his mistakes haha.

Twitter was made for moments like these. It's "nice" to have a transfer window where LFC are actually doing something. Nerve racking. Unless I see a second "source" nothing is credible. This Oliver Bond report that Coutinho will leave LFC this window for 160m Euros. And that they won't announce until replacements are locked up. He has plenty of followers. So it seems credible, but nobody else is reporting it.

Yea I seeing that as well. I still think we don't sell him, there's literally no reason to, plus Barca haven't even really submitted a bid worth considering.

regarding our rumored interest in Oxlade-Chamberlain. Well first I think it hilarious that he prefers LFC over CFC in his hurry to get away from AFC. But I'm not sure where he fits into this squad at the moment. IMO he's a lot like James Milner. He can play in a few different positions. out wide or in the middle more centrally. And could also play some wing back. He seems like he could be a Klopp type of player too, full throttle. I'm just not sure he's worth the transfer fee, what is it 40m pounds now? We could buy a nice CB for that.

Ox is a done deal, 35m pounds plus add ons, same deal as what CFC and AFC had agreed too, except , and this is the KICKER, he has agreed to a much lower contract than what AFC were offering him, reported to be 125k per week vs 180k per week... a LOWER contract... ouch, that's unheard of isn't it? I'm not a big fan of the player (we'll see though, full faith in Klopp) but he is still young and the symbolism of him wanting to go to LFC can't be ignored. It's quite something.

35 million is the new 15-20 million just a year or two ago in the transfer market. I've never been keen on him but like you said he's young and could easily become a hell of a player under Klopp, I saw the wages and it sure does say alot on how players feel at Arsenal right now. It adds depth to midfield which we will need to do well in comps this season.

Apparently there is a private plane on its way to France......

haha, the Thomas Lemar stuff is quite insane. With Barcelona showing interest just to spite LFC regarding Coutinho. Barca fans are losing their minds... the Neymar thing has really gotten to them. Can't say I'm upset about their franchise imploding (hopefully). The timing of their bids for Coutinho really curious (on days where we had big matches lined up). But Lemar is not for sale according to Monaco, although they will take 100m Euros for him... I believe we've bid up to 74m pounds... great now I have to do the old pounds to euros conversion...geesh, looks like GBP to Euro is 1.312128... so that's 97m euros we've supposedly already offered. This looks likely

As for outgoings, not hearing too much. Origi is likely to go out on loan, certainly prefer a loan vs a permanent move. I think he's got all kinds of potential. Markovic is a maybe, at least a loan deal. Nothing really beyond those two, besides Coutinho of course. Moreno may be safe, which is quite a turnaround.

GOING TO BE A CRAZY 24 HOURS, and the Spanish deadline is not till Friday... eeek!

Last I saw about Sakho is that CP was getting closer to the clubs evaluation, I figured it was going to be a deadline day deal. Never something that was completed early, we shall see.

So the latest rumor is that VVD was seen leaving Southampton.... who knows where hahaha.

Where do you read your transfer news? I've been on the /lfc reddit for a while. They are very active, and mods do a real good job of trying to keep rumor mill in check.

yeah it's tough. Not upgrading at CB is probably going to come back to bite us at some point. Origi is now out on loan, so at least he can be recalled if Sturridge gets hurt. Sakho is gone to CP, that's confirmed now at 26m pounds. Some minor loans out for U23 players. That's it for now. It is really odd that we didn't have a plan B for VVD. Clearly can't be satisfied with Lovren/Matip/Klavan/Gomez. But you know alot of the top teams didn't get what they wanted either. I mean Chelsea and Arsenal have been disasters this window. Not done yet though :wink2:

Obviously the sending off of Mane led to the whitewash today against MC.

Still - the off-season moves are disappointing.

But, I just don't understand why Liverpool added midfielders and didn't go after a big defender. Apparently Van Dijk was just completely out of the picture. I think their offense is already strong even without Cutinho and they added some talent as well. Plus, they will add Lallana soon. I do get the need for depth with the Champions League - so it is good to have that. And, added a few of those mid-fielders was a good move. But, with all those guys, Lallana coming back, and with the players already in place, they could have sold Cutinho and added a defender or two.

It seems they got stubborn with Cutinho when they could have sold him to Barca for well beyond 100 M Euros and also still added a defender.

Forget the 10 men today, their back four are terrible at times. They don't mark well. They are lazy at times; and at other times, out of position. I just don't get the player acquisition strategy. Some very talented offensive players will be wasted sitting on the bench most of the year and they still have a weak backline.

They didn't get stubborn with Coutinho, Barca were *******s (all 3 bids before matches, his back suddenly being injured and magically healed when he returned to Brazil)and never once big over 100m for him. The 113m bid was really only worth about 80m before 43m of addons that are near impossible to get, hell Messi hadn't once accomplished any of the addons in that bid). Who would you have bought with the money? They tried all summer to make the big signing with VVD, Keita, and Lemar. After watching two summer transfer windows with Klopp in charge I'm convinced that he doesn't compromise on the requirements he wants for certain position and doesn't buy in a panic when does miss a signing he wants. Just a heads up don't get your hopes up for big signings in the Jan window because Klopp rarely every buys in that window and has said many times he doesn't like to buy in Jan.

So remember the big talking point last year about how Liverpool always struggle with weaker teams? We that's one of the reason that Klopp bought so many offensive plaers. They struggled/lost in nearly every single match to anyone not in the top 6 most of the last season. That is the reason we signed the Salah, Roberston, Keita (for next year), because we aren't strong enough on offense to consistently break down teams that pack it in against us.

Obviously the defense hasn't be the greatest this year, but to say they totally suck isn't right. Two clean sheets out of 4 PL games isn't a sign of a team that has a horrid defense. The winger have been playing very well this year. Its the central pairing that sometimes does work, and I think that comes down more to Lovern than anything else. That's why Klavan played againist City to trying a different pairing with Matip but the red card really messed that up.

Well, just like the team on Saturday, once Mane got the red card (which had it been Aguero on Migs, you know that's not a straight red), I stopped caring what happened in that game. We're on to Cincinnati, I mean Sevilla. BTW, the game today at least for me on DTV via the DVR is on one of the Spanish sports channels, my only option, but at least I have that. They have to hold serve at home in these CL matches. 3 points a must really.

I don't have a problem with LFC's transfer market this past summer. They brought in quality in the players they added.. not quantity, so I don't have a problem with that. They couldn't get VVD, which Sou didn't want to sell. Had Sou sold instead to CFC, then, yes, that would have been problematic. Would have been nice to add an alpha male at center back. It's the one weakness this team has at the moment. All the CB's they have are passive. Lovren is the closest to an alpha, but he's too inconsistent in that respect. What do I mean by an alpha at CB? well, it's really about clearing out the area when the ball is in the air. It's about selling out, selling your body to get the ball. We don't have enough of that. Matip is tall and when he's in position, he's decent. But he doesn't fight enough for me.

It'll be interesting to see which lineups we go with with Sevilla vs Burnley (which also doesn't appear to be on the TV for me, :pity:). NBC Sports gold? ugh...

Ugh... friggin Lovren is a waste of space. I'm done with him. That draw is 100% on him, we should have won easily. They had one shot on target in each half and scored on both didn't they? FFS. Meanwhile we had like 20 shots on target? FFS. Salah had a game though didn't he?

Lovern easily cost ya that game!! This team is gon a live and die by scoring goals. If they don't figure out a way go score on compact teams we can pretty much write off the season.

Onwards... Alberto had a stellar match, assist and nearly a goal. Solid on defense with a couple hiccups but he really is showing you why he is first choice or Robertson who is also in form. Gomez had a great game until the red and that was a harsh decision. Gini was phenomenal. Coutinho is either very rusty or he was just trying to hard and messing it up. I could keep going on but to bummed over the lost 2 points...

It is a little nuts, with Klopp being a former center back, that it's the weakest position on the team. Kind of reminds me of our Dolphins and how we had Sparano and Philbin... offensive line position coaches... couldn't coach up an offensive lineman here to save their jobs.

ugh... same old same old... dominate, give up 2 goals on 3 shots @ LCFC in the League Cup (I refuse to call it anything else). Still, we're going to be busy with the CL games, so I don't necessarily mind being out of this Cup. I do mind Solanke playing and not scoring. And getting rid of Origi via loan. Not much scoring potential at forward outside of our top 3 at the moment (Mane, Firmino, Salah).

What a horrid week of football. I haven't been able to come talk about it here, took me this long to not get pissed when I thought of the games. The two things that stand out the most to me are 3 goals in 56 chances in the last week, coupled with 10 goals conceded on 19 shots on target.....

I don't mind losing the cup tie, just not the way we did. Something has got to give... we obviously are going to deal with a suspect backline the remainder of the season so they have to improve their finishes and score, if not we'll be lucky to finish top 6.

I wouldn't mind seeing Danny Ings getting some playing time at the starting A level. Not just PT in these sub B games.

Not sure why Firmino didn't get pulled instead of Mane... 1-1 draw @ Spartak Moskow. Certainly not ideal. But it puts a lot of pressure on the remaining 4 games of the group, 2 draws.

Yea that was very questionable sub... Mane should be well rested... I was expecting Firmino to be subbed off since he was struggling. Its so frustrating to watch Liverpool play right now. They create so many chances, but yet can't finish of late. Couple that with giving up such easy goals makes it a real struggle for them right now. The one big take away from this out of form spell we are having is that I hope Klopp breaks his Jan transfer habits of not buying and goes hard again for VVD.

and if it's not VVD, there are other CB's that can improve this team. They don't have to be the world's best center back either. I was watching the U21's in the Euros this summer. Came away highly impressed by Alfie Mawson. He's currently on Swansea at the moment. He's like a young John Terry for me (same size). Not physically imposing, but does enough, and is very solid in fundamentals.

Massive blow for the Reds. Sadio Mane sidelined for up to 6 weeks with a hamstring injury #LFC

Just found out. Hope he will be back for some important CL matches. Ugh. Major blow. Hate when our big players go back to their intl teams.

Yea pretty darn big blow, especially considering the form the team has been in as a whole. The one good thing is that Lallana is doing well and ahead of schedule getting past him injury. He's back to running and possibly to feature by end of the month.

Too bad we can't play Maribor every week. I wonder, if Maribor were in England, which division would they slot into?

Not one bit surprised that we lost 4-1 to Spurs.... that was embarrassing. I've barely been able to think about how bad we were in that game all week long, especially since I don't see it getting better unless Gomez ends up doing a better job. I hope that we never see Lovern on the pitch in a red **** anymore... that was some high school defending right there. Matip hasn't been that good either the last few games.....
