Well I will say one thing right now... Based on several conversations that I have had with other members, we are beginning to lose members due to the site being down. NOw CELTKIN has done a fantastic job of filling in until the site comes back up but there are rumblings about it being down for 3 months now.

Now I am NOT going to pass any judgement or say that our support staff is not doing all that can be done to get the site back up. But the perception in the field is that it's NOT coming back...

Now there is NO WAY in hell that I am going to believe that or agree with them, but then again, I can't argue with them...

IF there is more going on behind the scenes than we know about that is fine... Even if the site needs financial support or change, that is fine as well... However, we should be pulling ALL resources at this point in time to get the site back up as soon as possible...

BTW... If there is anything that I can do to get the site back up, PLEASE do not hesitate to ask...

Ken, This staff is all volunteer, as we all work very hard with our regular jobs. The site went down, and rather then bringing back up and down again, Brothers Muck, Celtkin made the call to install the new servers, so we would be all done. We have 7 years of info to go through as well. Brother Muck has been busy with work and travel, and Brother Celtkin is going to school to obtain his PHD. Brother Mindwarp has been busy with things in his life, and starting a new business. We would all love to have the site back up now, but we still have the hacker or hackers still out there, that we must protect the site from.

Donations, early VIP/Premium renewals, and new VIP joins would greatly be appreciated as we are not collecting advertising revenue right now. We will be back up when everything is right, and correct. If you would like to donate, renew, or sign up for VIP, see the info in my sig. If you sign up for VIP you will get access here right away, and when finheaven comes back up.

Hang in there all, and please Keep the Faith! This awesome staff is here working on this site, as well as working on Finheaven.:ffic:

    IT Commandments:

Commandment 1: You are only as good as your last backup.

And unfortunately it does not take three months to provision an AMP server, restore data, and lockdown. Even if done piece meal. Yes even with 7 years of data.

Your argument of the Hackers still being out there is pretty lame. Hackers have always been out there. If you don't patch your **** you get hacked. If you have a weak host, you get hacked. If you don't buck up for a decent router and IDS, you get hacked.

I would say someone at FH did not have a very good contingency plan in place. In addition to not having a good backup cycle. I realize the Admins are all volunteer, and I feel for them... I walk in the same shoes. But the buck stops somewhere, and if it does'nt you have no business taking money from people.

Hind sight is 20/20, but I am calling it like I see it. I am a Bills fan, I have that luxury.

    Truth.

I've made my living in the industry a good while. I only deal with businesses. I am not a PC jockey. And I've never lost anyone's data, ever. Obviously it would mean my *** if I did. I feel you there.

The fact is, we hired a professional to run the previous infrastructure. Do the things we were not necessarily experienced in doing. And he basically lied to us. He was not doing the things that needed to be done. I consistently and specifically harped on backups and received assurances as such. After all, we'd restored three times in the previous four months.

I am ultimately responsible, which is why we hired someone to work on an OS that I was not experienced in administering. We were supposed to be backed up nightly. Once upon a time, we were. So when this happened, I was not worried. "Just restore from last night's backup."

Secondly, this wasn't a hack job. It was done by someone with access. Granted, we were quite insecure and limited with the previous setup. But a trust was ultimately betrayed.

As for the time frame, we unfortunately didn't just sit down the day after and go to work nonstop. It's been quite different. There have been hardware issues, breaker issues, sidetracking projects, work, home, family deaths, you name it. Basically real life.

I spent basically the first month wasting my time with data restoration companies, our (uncooperative) host, failing hardware, corrupt data, incompetence (as in, the host formatting our drive) etc. in effort to get our data back. I finally just gave up and unplugged for a week.

Fortunately we did get a database ourselves, and it has been restored. Things are a bit different now. We'll be back soon.

Can someone explain what happened to the old finheaven? I know there was data loss due to a hack or whatever but how come the forum wasn't rebuilt on finheaven.com instead of drunkpuppies and now here?

I understand you were trying to recover data and obviously that wasn't successful but why the move to an entirely new domain, especially if you plan on moving back.

As a web developer, I've been wondering for quite a while now why you would like a domain with pr6+ just vanish. It seems like a tremendous loss to me and I would really like some insight if you don't mind.

Also how can you have thousands of members and not make enough money to support the site? I know you all have experimented with some advertisers but I think a lot more could be done to make this site profitable without affecting the quality of the site.

I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way, Im just curious as I've been a member for several years now and enjoy reading daily. Im just very confused as to how like this could happen to such a popular site. :confused2:
