Randolph was more of a solid player, good avg, good sb numbers etc And career stats for Ozzie are very skewed by his .201 type yrs in SD, by the time he got to STl he was more of a .280 hitter/45 sb/90 runs scored type of player, not bad when one considers he hit at the bottom of the batting order most of his career.
He was more or less a slap hitter, but hitting at the bottom of the order what would happen is he get on base, pitcher would bunt him to 2nd, or he'd steal the base, and Herr would drive him in. IIRC Herr at that point was one of the few players to drive in 100 RBI's and hit less then 10 Hr's.
I can see what you mean actually. Obviously he wouldn't have been the same caliber of player without his defense but he did more than he is given credit for offensively IMO
This is pretty darn funny... http://metsblog.com/metsblog/must-w...ercover-talks-to-mets-fans-about-matt-harvey/
[h=1]ChiSox Reject Cardinals' Offer For Alexei Ramirez[/h] By Mark Polishuk [July 24, 2013 at 12:29am CST] The White Sox have as many trade chips as any deadline seller in the majors and they're putting a high price tag on their key players. According to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune, the Sox recently turned down a trade offer from the Cardinals that would have sent shortstop Alexei Ramirez to St. Louis in exchange for right-hander Carlos Martinez, one of the many elite prospects in the Cards' minor league system. Gonzales said the deal was "involving" those two players, so it was likely not a one-for-one swap. Good drugs in Chicago! Declining SS paid alot of money and they dont want a top prospect for him.....
Where have I been Cal Ripkin's mother got abducted?? http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/ma...ken-abduction-update-20130801,0,7220441.story
By the way I HIGHLY recommend this site: http://www.mlbgifs.com/ You can see Melky Cabrera throw a ball behind him!
Pirates messed up not making a move. They should of made a move for a bat. Maybe a Justin Morneau. They need a bat
Where have you been, supposedly banging some teenagers and taking them to Bob Evans.... http://www.thephins.com/forums/showthread.php?72929-An-18-year-old-girl-likes-me-tell-me-why-not
My favorite part about that thread is that I met a girl in May who I later found out was 18 and I had serious reservations about pursuing that because of the age difference and I'm only 23. I can't imagine being in his position and thinking that's okay.
Hmm, for me, I think the PED stuff is blown waaay out of proportion to it's real effect on wins and losses. Reason being, MLB now is all about stats, not athletic performance, when a player takes these substances there is a sense that they are cheating at poker, not trying to win games, and that boils down to the avg MLB fan today is in a world of WHIP and WAR and all that other pablum rather than "wow, he rocked that ball to the third deck". This is why NFLers can take these things and no one really cares, fans priorities are W's and L's when it comes to the NFL, Seattle has had what 6 guys suspended for PED use since Carrol took over and it's rarely mentioned.
If you look at Bonds WAR in the bonkers years, they were all double digits....it definitely helps...look at A-Rod in 09 the year they won the WS, he carried them to the WS and then disappeared.....
And all I recall about Bonds is 40/40 and hitting balls into the lagoon at the ballpark. BUT, I'm not the usual MLB/Stat based fan FY, to me it does not enhance the game it detracts from it. Bonds hit what 74 Hr's?
Yes you're right baseball fans were never into stats until recently. It's not like Roger Maris got death threats when he was on his way to breaking Babe Ruth's single season HR record or Hank Aaron never got them either for breaking Ruth's all time HR record. No one ever heard about Triple Crowns until Miguel Cabrera got one last year. Or why they stopped a baseball game after the 5th inning so Cal Ripken could run around the ball park slapping people's hands for breaking Gehrigs most games played record. Etc, etc. The main reason why people care so much about PEDs in baseball is because baseball is only sport, or in the very least the main sport, where people really pay attention to stats and have since the sport started so they believe with PEDs those special stats/records are/could be tainted. That's the reason why the other sports get a free pass. You are right about one things though that PEDs are blown way out of proportion.
Exactly RF, in MLB stats matter so much more than say the NHL, fans follow the various metrics and measures the way a CPA pours over the latest IRS regulations. When PEDs are added in, it's a bit like cheating at poker, other leagues the fans don't care at all. Seattle and Washington both have had multiple players suspended for PED use, both made the playoffs last yr, there are not hour long specials about PED use in the NFL b/c it's all about W's and L's.
But the problem is the average MLB fan doesn't know or use any of those advanced stats/metrics like WAR, UZR etc. The average fan only cares about BA, HR, RBI for hitters and W/L, ERA, and saves for pitchers. It's the average fans that are all up in arms about PEDs not the stat geeks like myself. I personally don't care about PEDs, Clemens, Bonds, Arod, Manny should all be in the HOF in my opinion. You're kind of arguing two seperate points I think.
Right 74 I mean for all the talk that he was a 40/40 guy he only did it once in 96 in the middle of his career....I think we can safely assume he was on PED's in those times as well...he has several years that he was close to 40/40 but only 1 actual year.... they definitely translate into winning, they aid recovery in a sport like baseball it is more beneficial in my opinion...Clemens was whacked on PED's and he won championships...
Sort of, more akin to SOME guys who used them played on teams that won, at the end of it all it's still a team game, 1 guy is not going to win a WS all by themselves.
But here's the thing, if you think Bonds was on PEDs all those times how come he only hit 74 home runs once? I mean he only hit over 50 home runs once in his career (the year he hit 74, granted he hit 49 the year before but still never even came close to that number). Only hit over 40 HRs 8 times in 22 years. To play devil's advocate Roger Maris hit 61 home runs once, his next highest HR total was 39. And only hit over 30HRs one other time. So in his 12 year career he hit over 30 home runs, 3 times. If you simply looked at his stats and not the years he played or his name you'd certainly say he must have been on something the year he hit 61 home runs, right? Same thing with Brady Anderson, everyone says oh he was on PEDs when he hit 49 HRs. Ok, maybe he was but why didn't he hit close to that again in his career? Did he just stop taking them? Ditto for Ellsbury in 2011. Was he on them? Could it just be a freak/fluke thing? Baseball is a funny sport where guys can just have a huge career year and never come close to matching it. And it might just simply be chalked up to luck or a fluke or whatever. That's the danger of simply assuming or accusing random players if they have big years. We simply don't know the true effects PEDs have. See the post below.
Its a private school based around athletics and its brand new. So school doesn't start until September 1st, so I SHOULD start mid September. But I am already doing some stuff. Have a meeting with 10-15 baseball kids and their parents tonight. Basically going to be talking about what we will be doing different and our training and philosophies. So it should be good.
