That's crap......you should have a way out....so businesses can NEVER make a bad decision and get out of it is what you are saying....Baseball should take note and be like football.....it is the best system, if you are underpaid they boost your pay, if you underachieve or over the hill, you take a paycut or get canned.....

Guaranteed contracts are the worst thing for the sport, and only a union could drum something up so stupid.....look at anything that has union backed guaranteed contracts they are all failures....

Problem is baseball union are the most powerful out of them all.....they make football unions look like rookies...

Those are the only names ESPN has listed, there is probably more to come out.

I disagree, I think football needs to take a note from Baseball contracts.

The problem with Arod's contract is, and I'm assuming here, when it was signed there was probably no out clause due to PED use or the Yankees would have opted out of it already. I think even IF there was such a clause the MLBPA union would have rejected it and never would have let him sign it in the first place.

Without knowing the specifics to Arod's deal, it's probably going to be next to impossible to void the deal. And you can bet it would be a hell of a court case with the union.

Let's be honest here, the issue isn't Arod took PEDs, the issue is Arod is no longer the same player he was when he signed the contract in 2007 and is due a ton of money for the next 5 years and thus will never produce enough to justify the rest of the deal. If Arod was still a productive player, if Arod was Ryan Braun for example, you wouldn't hear about them trying to void the deal.

My issues with A-Rod and it is all the organizations fault but I hated the second contract after he opted out, when he announced it during the WS I was smitten, but then Hank led the charge to sign him back and frankly after that you haven't seen him around since.....

There is no way to prove a player is 100% clean at the time of the contract, before or after, so there SHOULD be a protection clause for all players saying if at any point they test positive it can be voided.....That is of course if baseball wanted to clean up the sport and took it seriously they would....

Look at Pulojs, not saying he did, but not saying he didn't either is and should be the price of getting that guaranteed contract....so if the guy is clean and is owed years and big money then hey you have to live with it as an organization....

It is just odd that a business cant do any digging on players to find out the truth about the history THEN they have to give a 100% fully guaranteed contract to boot...the power isn't in the organizations hands and fans shouldnt ***** about tickets prices at that point....

Baseball not just NY is going to have to live with A-Rod for the next 5 years....this is baseballs problem....making an example of of him is the way to go....Lastly you dont hear the Yankees talk about voiding the deal at all, dont get me wrong I bet they have had numerous internal discussions and have lawyers and plans in place, but that is mostly fan noise

Question Fink if he does get suspended for the rest of the year, does he get his salary? I know so far he has...

If any player is suspended they don't get paid during that time. Where the money goes, whether it goes to a charity or to the MLB or the team keeps it (doubtful), I have no idea but it doesn't go into the player's pocket, I do know that.

Regarding the rest of your post, I don't see how or why the union would ever allow such a clause whether its PEDs or something small like pot to be written in any member of the MLBPA's contracts so it's kind of a moot point.

Would I be against it? Probably not but I just can't see it ever happening.

I wouldn't be shocked. PEDs are used in all sports, not just baseball.

That's the way baseball is, though. You can't change it today. Would I like a NFL type system? Of course. But there isn't one. Baseball is the way it is.

At this very moment he's a 3B, hasn't played 1st since 2011, but obviously if he slid over to 1st he's better than Rizzo.

I actually agree with you ONLY in that the players deserve it more because of the mere nature of the game, however those guys would be milking injuries worse that baseball players would be....

The whole Carl Pavano experiment is exactly why guaranteed contracts are failures, the guy did nothing to get back on the field in 4 years and got every penny of that 40M....he actually was doing more to NOT get back on the field than try to get on the field....

Because it's his true and best position IMO.

Same reason when A-rod first signed with the NYY (or was traded to them?), I said he was the best SS on the team.

So. There are TONs of players not playing in their best position in the MLB. If he doesn't play the position, you don't just consider them that position because you want to.

Sure I can, it's my opinion. I never said anyone had to agree with me or that I'm right or someone else is wrong. And I don't know there are tons of players not playing their best position (there certainly aren't a lot of all stars playing out of position which Cabrera is and Arod was). Even assuming there are, I don't see any problem with thinking player X is the 12th best SS despite being an everyday starter at 2B, especially when they have a verifiable track record of success at the other position.

Well I see both of your points. He technically is not. To use a football analogy it's like when a QB transitions to WR or a DE to LB out of college. Even though they are not a player at that position it is their true position that fits their skill at the highest level. Except in this case the player has actually played the position.

It's like if someone said David Ortiz isn't a first baseman he is a DH who just happens to play the infield on occasion (or I may have worded that wrong and its the opposite)

Yep if the NL had a DH Ortiz wouldnt have played 1b at all the last couple of years. He is there to get his bat in the lineup. It would be like saying since Lyle Overbay has played a few games in RF for the Yankees now all of a sudden he is a OF.

Brandon McCarthy suffered a seizure last week linked to when he had brain surgery due to catching a line drive off his head last year. Clearly McCarthy isn't tough enough.

Remind me again why padded hats/helmets for pitchers are a bad idea again.

Add Alex Cobb to the list. Ball came off Hosmer's bat at 102 mph. Didn't look good at all. Thoughts with Cobb.

What the hell has gotten into this years starting pitching in baseball?

So I am bored this morning and my kid is sleeping so I am just snooping around and thought I would share some eye popping stats about offense/pitching in todays game. We all know homeruns are down, and offense is down to. But do we realize how much?

There are 23!! starting pitchers in baseball as of today that have ERAs under 3. Do you remember when under 3 was just the elite few? There were only 10 last year, but 23 is outrageous.

For perspective in a couple of HR years.
    2001 - 2 (Randy Johnson and Schilling)
2000 - 3 (Randy Johnson, Kevin Brown and Pedro)

I just remember in the 80's it wasn't very high scoring.....I remember SS and 2B were pretty bad hitters on your team, but where good with the glove....25-30 HR was a good year...etc....

Hmm, not so sure about that FY, there were plenty of good hitting SS and 2b's in the 80's.

When Bartolo Colon has 12 wins right now, something appears to be out of line.

Just using like lets say 2000-2010 roid was big then....

Yes of course they are the greats in any decade, Trammell, Yount, and Rip (even though he played alot of 3b too) come to mind immediately, but a good deal of them where the Spike Owens of the world....then think of the new age SS....Jeter, Miggy, Nomar, Reyes, Rollins, Renteria, Furcal etc.....much betters hitters IMO.....

2B is even more slanted to the 2000's talent wise offensively than back in the 80's....

Herr, Randolph, Whitaker, Sandberg, Even Ozzie Smith by that point had become a good hitter, difference really was in that era stolen bases were more common, modern SS/2b had more power, but I'd think runs scored/produced were similar

I didn't get to see Smith til the later part of his career. But I always thought Ozzie was an underrated offensive player. He offered no power. But was pretty good offensively IMO.

Ozzie was a career slash .265/.332/.328 never hit more than 6 home runs in any given year...he was there to do backflips and clean up groundballs...

Randolph never got over 151 hits in any year....

Ozzie had almost double the amount of walks as he did strikeouts. He got on base at a pretty decent clip and he stole a lot of bases. He didn't hit HRs, but he turned a lot of singles into doubles and he hit a decent amount of doubles anyways. He is above 47 in his career for oWAR. His offense was always underrated. Not saying he was GREAT offensively. But for that period of time at SS he was decent at least.
