Let me get this straight. Balt is playing a double header at 4 and another one at 7? Strange, why not 1 and 7? What if game 1 goes into extras? Do they just give Balt the win since they will end up winning anyway?
It's obviously not a split double header, meaning they aren't charging people for 2 seperate admissions (which teams like the Yankees or Red Sox do since they know they can get 2 sell outs or close to sell outs). Baltimore must feel that it would be better just to have a single admission. If the game goes into extra innings and ends after 7 they usually give both teams at least 20 minutes to a half an hour or rest, and also so the Game 2 starting pitchers can get ready, and then start it up. It's not really a big deal.
Nowadays it is. But back in the day, you know when BigDog was a young whipper snapper, it was normal.
If Yankes Hold and Toronto holds it will be the first time all September that either team had greater then a 1 game lead. Its a 1.5 but its a bigger lead so ill take it! Time may be our friend as the season is running out
MudCat Grant and Old Hoss Radburn in back-to-back starts was one of the best 1 ticket 2 games ever!!!!
That's how they came up with the name for playing two...a Doubleday. And dont take the World Serious!, yup the World Series. His Grandfather was a real gem, heck of a man, I had the pleasure of schoolin', and young Abner did fine for himself and made the Ol' G-Pappy proud. Lemonade on the porch with the whole clan, never tasted so sweet. Old times there are not forgotten!
In my young 45 years, ball busting is like breathing....just happens for both sides....inhale to the exhale!
The Yankees designated Steve Pearce for assignment, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports (on Twitter). The move creates roster space for Brett Gardner, who will be active for tonight's game against the Twins.
Come on Logan damniit.... Hughes in a rare showing of emotion was PISSED after Span hit that double...
The Yankees have designated left-hander Justin Thomas for assignment, according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News (via Twitter). In a corresponding move, David Aardsma has been activated from the 60-day disabled list and will take Thomas' place on the Yankees' 40-man roster. Aardsma hasn't pitched in the Majors since 2010 due to hip surgery during the 2010-11 offseason and Tommy John surgery last July.
BDH, how do you find stats for pitching....as in yanks starter versus the others.... also I need the stats for their BP as opposed to others around the league.... I am having an argument with my old man, he says the BP is gassed and I keep saying they are all gassed at this stage.... Much appreciated if you can help me bro
just as i thought.....their BP has logged in the 3rd fewest innings in ALL of baseball, and their starters have logged in the 5th most in ALL of baseball....
Logan is definitely gassed. He's pitched in what 70 plus games already this year. Plus not even counting the times he may have warmed up but was never used. I just think Girardi had a bad game managing last night.
We can thank Feliciano for that, that guy is in the same ilk as Carl Pavano....hate him... He had 4 LH hitters coming up in a row when he pulled Hughes, I dont think it was a bad decision, just got to execute there.... Like they did today, nice win and nice to CC again getting hot at the right time.... Put a little pressure tonight on Texas, Balt, and TB too..... Girardi takes Jeter out of the leadoff spot, slides him to 2nd, and it halts his hit streak lol...."It take just amazing Susan?"
dobbleganger... The eyes. The nose. The creases in the face. The belly. The neck and complexion. Even the piece of steak at the tip of the fork. The jersey and cap don't hurt either. Hey, this guy looks exactly like Babe Ruth eating a steak! Lucky for him, Gallagher's famous steakhouse in the heart of Manhattan happened to be hosting a Babe Ruth look-alike contest as part of its 85th birthday celebration Monday night. OK, it's more than a coincidence. Willis "Buster" Gardner of Oberlin, Ohio, made the drive with his wife of nearly 56 years, Cecile, to New York City in order to defend his title from 2007 and the inaugural contest in 2002. And defend it he did; a panel of judges unanimously named him the winner. Well, duh.
Tickets sold, sorry guys....I totally forgot to take them off Stubhub....sh%t...... So the Yankees and Balt clinched a spot with LAA's loss last night.....however obviously the Division is up for grabs.... However Tampa (who is playing unbelievable baseball and if the season was 2 weeks longer they are in it hands down) and LAA are still in it, both of their elimination numbers are at 1... Here comes the juice now, Balt has to play Tampa and they are scheduled to throw Cobb, Hellickson, and Shields.....imagine if it came down to the last game of the year, with Big Game on the mound?? Wow... LAA is playing Seattle......Oakland who plays Texas and if they win one game and/or if TB/LAA loses one more game, and Oakland clinches the last spot...pretty exciting times... Honestly imagine if Boston won 90 games too like they should have how chaotic this all would have been?
If Boston won 90 games then Baltimore wouldn't be in the position they're in now. The Sox went 5 and 13 vs. Baltimore this year. So even assuming the Sox split the season series with Baltimore that leaves Baltimore at 88-71, which is TB's record right now. So they wouldn't have made the playoffs. Look Baltimore is a nice story this year, tons of props to them for making the playoffs when every sane non Baltimore homer in the world had them coming in 5th place and being one of the worst teams in baseball, but let's see them do it again next year too. I think it's fine to say the team was lucky this year without taking anything away from them. They were million and 5 in 1 run games, something like that is incredibly flukey and they took advantage of beating up on the bad teams in the division like Boston and Toronto (which is what teams should do). The back end of their pen are extremely solid but from a pure talent perspective at the beginning of the year they were clearly the 5th best team. Toronto tanked because half of the pitching staff decided to blow out their elbows, their ace pitched like one of the worst pitchers in baseball and their best player got hurt. The Sox tanked because of injuries, bad starting pitching, and superstar players having bad years. I believe the only guys not to make a trip to the DL for the Sox this year were Lester, Aceves, Aviles and Saltalamacchia. That's pretty amazing. But tip your hat to Baltimore this year, they earned it but I want to see them do it again next year before I'm a believer in them. I don't expect them to get very far in the playoffs simply because they don't have a shut down ace or even a solid #2 pitcher. But hey that's what makes baseball and the playoffs so great, anything can happen. Now that the Sox clinched a top 10 draft pick I'm hoping they show some guts the next 3 games in New York and make it so the Yankees will have to play on Thursday.
Congrats to Cashman and crew for another playoff season....lets take care of business for these 3, see where the chips fall, and move forward. If you are in it, you can win it....otherwise you are home watching
Tex is coming back today too...good he needs to get his cuts in before the playoffs, and he lengthens that lineup.... Also Nix is out for a few...
I gotta ask because you are the 2nd guy who said this, you would have rather seen them mess with NY and than Balt? Bos/NY as BDH has said in the past, as much as I want to see it better, just hasnt been good for a few years now....no thrills, no excitement, no gusto etc.... Balt knocked Boston out last year and embarrassed them....and beat up on them this year too....and Sox fans would rather see them beat NY?? See BDH the rivalry does exists!!
You are confusing rivalry with envy.....and from half-wits rooting for SUCKS (sic) NATION! But take it easy on them, I mean 3 straight years missing playoffs.........and Bobby V is still leaving his impression on the place following the most epic collapse of Tito and the boys. Its glorious and no one roots against lovable loser of the recent era so Baltimore gets a pass.
Oh Eddie Nunez playing defense in the playoffs would be epic. Definitely would rather mess with the Yankees and see Baltimore win the East. Baltimore has been so bad for so long, as a baseball fan you always want to root for an underdog. As far as last year goes, I don't hold anything against the Orioles for playing hard that last series last year, it's what teams should do. The Sox did enough to embarrass themselves last year without the help of any particular team. If you want to blame Baltimore for the Sox tanking, we should also blame the Yankees, Rangers, Blue Jays and Rays, since all those teams beat up on the Sox last September.
What envy? What have the Yankees done in the playoffs those 3 years? Congrats you made the playoffs the past 3 years while the Sox haven't, but what do you have to show for it? The utlimate goal is winning a World Series, both teams have failed at that.
If he steps foot on any field in October besides the next three games to play defense I am breaking the TV.....and tweeting the pic of said broken TV...
Every goal is a goal, every achievement is an achievement, each adds to the superiority of the organization and getting in leads to the next Championship Title. Hey, you think missing out on the playoffs is the same as making them but missing out on World Series so be it.....I think its the wrong attitude, but again, not shocked by where its coming from. From where I root and set expectations, #28 only has a chance when you make the playoffs..or for Beaners...what #7? Maybe next year (once again)! You want to know how you go from 1919 to 2004 feeling like some curse is what kept you from hosting the trophy, its easy, just keep telling yourselves that missing out on the playoffs is really acceptable as compared to other franchises that make it but fall just sort of the ultimate goal, keep telling yourself that feeling is logical, when compared to franchises that continue to show up and qualify for playoffs. Damn right your fanbase is envious....been that way for a long long time.
This has to happen now. If there's a baseball god(s) this must happen. When did I ever say missing out on the playoffs is the same as making them but missing out on a World Series? I'm sorry but when you throw the word "envy" around, at least back it up with something better than "we made the playoffs 3 years in a row while you didn't", if that's the case why not throw the Phillies or Rangers in that discussion too. If there's any team I'm envious the past few years its the Rangers, who have a ton of talent at both the major league and minor league levels and were in the WS the past two years. Or the Cardinals who won the thing last year. But hey that's great the Yankees have made the playoffs the past 3 years while the Sox haven't. The Yankees have been the better team in those years. And please give me a break about the wrong attitude and where it's coming from. Such a silly stupid statement. Where have I ever said missing out on the playoffs is acceptable? I'm a realist, I knew early on this year that this team wasn't good enough, I'm happy with the direction the franchise is going right now because they realized it too instead of making poor decisions to try and fix something that couldn't be fixed this year, but you were much too busy knocking the team "for quitting" instead of taking a step back and realizing this was what the team HAD to do. If that makes me a bad fan in your eyes, so be it but give me a break on the rest of your nonsense. But hey let's act like the stereotypical Yankee fan and act like you and your team is so superior to everyone else and the teams they root for. Keeping talking about all of those 27 championships and that good old championship #28 coming.... I also liked bringing up "the curse" again, it's been far too long since someone mentioned that.
Thankfully/hopefully it will all be over in 3 games. I actually wouldn't have minded him much if he just shut his mouth and managed the team. But he did much more harm than good. He wasn't the main problem, but he was one of THE problems. He basically talked his way out of a job next year. He just must love to read about himself in the papers. Oh well hopefully I won't have to listen or hear about him anymore after, I will give it by Friday of this week.
BDH does get people mad......I thought about finding him and lighting him on fire a few times I admit.....but I love him so there's that to......
Wow looking at that Sox line up for tonight I'm surprised if Baltimore doesn't complain to Bud about it. If the Yankees don't win tonight it would be pretty remarkable.
