Its not a bias...Charlie Sheen said so.
ehh he is looking for reaction because BDH isn't that stupid.....a little off sure....but who isn't....
Even so it's still silly. Yes the Yankees over the course of their franchise have been extremely successful but let's not talk about them like they're perfect. Even their current GM and owners have made numerous mistakes over the years and have moves completely backfire and blow up in their faces. Every franchise goes through down periods, it's just the way sports work. Just don't act like your team is high and mighty, because let's time I checked 2009 was what almost 3 years ago and since them they have won a total of 1 playoff series. The way BigDog talks if someone wasn't following baseball they would assume the Yankees win every single game and no one else is on their level.
No the way I have talked is that the best franchise in the history of baseball is the New York Yankees. That's all. The down times are far out numbered by the Championship and winning times. That is the end game, is it not? Again, I lived through the late 70 titles, just to have the horrible 80's and early 90's, and yes, smart decisions had to be made (and hiding the best farm system talent from the owner) to have the current 1996 to present run take place. The Yankees winning times have produced a ridiculous 27 championships (more than the next 4 franchises combined I believe). Only the have-nots beg it not be used to point out how correct they have been time and time again. And all I am pointing out is that the Red Sox made bad decisions and had to QUIT on this season to hope it all gets better. Maybe it will get better, but they quit on this season. I get the sense its the Red Saux nation that wants to claim how silly LAD are now, but refuse to acknowledge that post 2007 the decisions of their beloved Saux have been brutal. Frankly, whats wrong with the Red Sox is not the product on the field. It's like Joe D said "I'd like to thank the Good Lord for making me a Yankee."
I just don't get why you're harping on the fact that they quit on this season. What would you have done? Continue to watch this team play close to .500 ball the whole way? If they kept the players and did nothing would you knock them that they didn't try to unload talent? It just seems like they're in a no win situation here. And who's refusing to say that the Sox made a lot of mistakes since 2007? Of course they have. Heck even in 2007 they made mistakes on trades (Eric Gagne) and signings (Julio Lugo). Every team has. Not sure where that comment is coming from. Again if you claim that Gonzalez, Beckett and Crawford were mistakes for the Sox how are they not mistakes for LA? I think the whole franchise, from the owners right down to the 25th guy is to blame for the past what 16 months or so of bad play. I don't think it's fair to point the fingers at one person specifically, it's a group effort. I also like to point out that the main decision maker from 2007 to 2011 when the Sox made all of those "horrible decisions" is no longer with the team now.
uggh, so many disasters that let us down in post seasons. Cause its not often you see a storied franchise tank it like that....its not the norm for the Yanks and Sox of the baseball world. Retooling and making trades is one thing, but they always left themselves a chance, made the effort, went down to the wire scratching and clawing, but this...this inst normal. Marlins are one thing to bag it less then 1/2 way into a season they made the splash. Its practically their M.O. But come on, no honor among men any longer?
Why would the Sox play for this year being so far out of it? It would make zero sense. I have absolutely no problem with them giving up the rest of the season by trading players they don't feel can help the franchise going forward, and playing their younger players to give them MLB experience and not worrying about W/L record. That's more important right now then them trying to "fight" and get as close to a playoff as possible when they have no chance to reach the playoffs?
Missed opportunity this series....dropping 2...now they go on the road against Balt, TB, and Boston.....
We have to change, its the little things; we need to move runners over, need to bunt them when it calls for it, go back to smartball. Need some arms to step up, but also need D to give themselves up to knock balls down to prevent the extra base. The fundamentals. The folks playing and many of them out of position due to injuries is silly when you look at it too. Health will return some, but we need a spark over this last month. Right now, nothing.
Yeah a Spark is needed big time. I was hoping A rod would have been it. I will say, the top of the 4th was the best baseball Ive seen the yankees play in a while, but then fell flat for the rest of the game. This team needs to win these games against the Rays and Baltimore. 86+ consecutive games in first means nothing if you can't win your division. Vegas has yankees 7/2 to win the World Series... they obviously haven't seen them play lately, because that is the worst bet in baseball to take.
Classic Yankees recently peak in June-July tighten up in Sept, play like crap in Oct.... got to love age...
Obviously there's a lot of baseball left to play but man the Yankees, even if they make the playoffs (and I think they will), won't last long. Just not enough solid starting pitching. The Yankees' last 10 games are against, I believe, Toronto, Minnesota and the Red Sox so they have that going for them.
And it isnt so much the pitching even with their lack of an ace.....it is the hitting...as I have said you know all along...
Sabathia is an ace, I don't get why you're so down on him. You can do a hell of a lot worse than him starting Game 1 of the playoffs. There's only a handful of MLB teams that have a "true ace", the Yankees are one of them. Talking about lack of an ace, do the Orioles even have 1 pitcher on the roster that's better than a #2 or #3 starter?
I know I am playing with BDH because I have missed him....sure an ace in terms of innings....hittable though...now is the time for A-Rod to go on a tear over the next 10 days or so, how great would that be? good for Buck man, never disliked the guy, thats a good manager right there...the anti-Bobby...he has grit, doesnt back down.....makes some good decisions... he HATESSSS the Yankees and Red Sox...
I still have no clue how Baltimore is doing it with their pitching staff. A lot has to do with how good their pen has been, they rarely lose a game in the late innings when they're winning.
Me either, honestly, and I see them on TV every night...crazy. I do agree with FinYankSox and how the Yanks basically need a near perfect healthy team to play like one, they are just showing so much "age" in the nicks and bruises category this time of year. The pattern is discernible. And Cano, dude, give up your body, I dont want to hear about an achy hip - dive and knock the ball down to keep it in the infield. Is that to much to ask?
Yeah the Yankees are a pretty old team and don't have much in terms of position players that are close to the MLB level for a couple of years. It will be extremely interesting how Cashman handles the Granderson and Cano possible extensions, if he chooses to extend them. I'd let Granderson walk and just resign Cano.
Holy God you sound like me right now.... it sucks that Tex got hurt because he had it going for a while there....he was looking like he should have been all along...CC I actually feel bad for the guy isn't right right now, something is up with him and my old man thinks they should pull him for the year...I gotta give the guy much credit, he isn't a dog that's for sure, the guy takes it and throws it...even in Mil. in a contract year, when they made him pitch the month of Sept on 3 days and he did without complaint... And touche on Cano all his career....man come on....what does Jeter do on that ball hit? How about Pedoria? It isnt hard to ask...RUN!!!!!!!! Call me crazy to BDH, I think he is faking that "injury" because he knows he should have dove for it, he knows he could have got to it and/or knocked it down saving the run IF he dove for it, and all this right AFTER he didnt run the ball out of the box....like really?!?! So what do you do? You pull up with a sore hammy/hip.....come on who are you Manny? I love the guy, I really do and I would HATE to see him go, but is he really worth 20M+ over 10 years? He doesnt have 30 HR's in that park, although he probably will get 2 more, and wont get close to 100 RBI's
It's insane that Granderson is hitting sub-.240 with 30-something dingers. He stopped stealing bases almost completely. I don't know what to make of this team other than that they are so completely dependent on the long ball to win games. It's like they don't even know how to move a runner over. As they run into better pitching, they'll fold like a tent in the playoffs. But if that's the identity of the team, you have to keep Granderson.
I let Granderson go immediately...no way cant pay him that money for a .230 hitter....if they are serious about this payroll thing.... Grandy is gone, so is Martin, so his Soriano (provided he opts out), and possibly Swisher.... Kuroda is a must sign...
Said it all year, HR's are the first thing to go in the playoffs.....happened last year too.... Baseball is weird, anything can happen, so just make it in and see what gives but yeah hitting wise they are screwed....
I would love to see this team's offense "rebuilt" into what Joe Torre assembled in the late 90's....smart baserunning, small ball NL style when required, and still AL power and thump too. How can we not move a baserunner over with Ichiro up, with Swisher up....dang, move them from a double play situation (or even a soft pop up no advance), into a 1 out with man on 2nd situation. So many times we are all about lumber and no care any more is put into the little things. Yes, are arms are dinged, but the offense used to put pressure on the opposing teams D and arms...used to work counts, and sacrifice an out, or hitting behind the runner to advance and keep the D on their toes. Not any more.
funny thing is too those years, none of those guys had monster HR hitting years except Tino one year had 40 I believe but everybody knew they ALL could hit is out at any point...those guys are all OBP/AVG guys....gap power clutch hitters, damn I miss those days....this contract chasing crap started with Giambi in the early 2000's when they totally got away from that philosophy...
None of those guys were big HR hitters but the core (Tino, O'Neill, Williams) all hit between 20 to 30 HRs and like you said FinYank they were all high BA/OBP guys. Plus they had incredibly deep pitching. And played pretty good defense too. Those teams were so balanced. There really wasn't a "sexy" superstar player on that team (i.e. a stud MVP type player). But really the pitching is what carried those teams.
I have a dude at work who is a diehard Baltimore fan....he is blowing up my phone right now..... I dont even bust his balls... There is your 2012 New York Yankees ladies and gentlemen, allowing their fans to get punked by Oriole fan...
Sure that's the accurate perception, as at the end of the day, the arms have to record the outs, but that offense put so much pressure each at bat and innings on the opposing defense and pitchers, I think the mental exhaustion and frustration took steam out of them when they came to bat and feeling they needed to over produce in key spots. Frankly, its what this current Yanks hitters do, try to overproduce in those "clutch" hitting moments. stupid style.
Obviously I'm rooting hard for the Yankees to miss the playoffs because I can't wait to read about how CC Sabathia and Andruw Jones would eat half of the food at the buffet table and how the team really missed AJ Burnett's pies or how Nick Swisher's hair styles were distracting the team etc etc. WFAN would be amazingly entertaining to listen to if that have happened. Francesa's rants would be 2004 ALCS post Game 7 classics. I really see no upside for the Yankees making the playoffs this year.
Tell ya what if they dont, it is going to be a very interesting offseason.... I want them to make it obviously because anything can happen once you get in, but part of me doesn't because if they do it is that same "stick with what works" mentality that I believe is dooming them.... I am okay with reigning in the team for a few years to get it right, unfortunately New Yorkers aren't having that....imagine trying to sell them on not making the playoffs for a few years in order to get the house right so to speak.. This is what happens when their tickets prices are what they are, and the expectation is through the roof every year...
The Yankees are an old team and now starting to really show their age. All these little nagging injuries are starting to pile up, which is part of the reason why I think Cashman would love to rid himself of the Arod and possibly the Teixeira contracts. Not only would it free up payroll (not like it matters for the Yankees), but it would free up spots on the roster so they would be able to bring in younger more athletic players. Remember part of the reason, perhaps the main reason, the Yankees dealt Montero was because his only spot was to DH and the Yankees need to keep that open for went Arod, Jeter and/or Teixeira won't be able to play defense without a walker. The Yankees biggest problem is that their farm system took a bit of a hit this year with their higher level prospects like Banuelous and Betances taking steps back, Romine barely playing. The good news is guys like Tyler Austin, Gary Sanchez and Mason Williams (before he got hurt) took steps forward but all of those guys are still very young and further away from the MLs. So they don't have guys they just can plug in, they will either have to spend the money on FAs or try to trade some of their prospects (depending on how much value other teams see those players as having). It's going to be an extremely interesting offseason for the Red Sox and Dodgers already.
Cashman had a shot....CC would have sucked to lose but I would have in a minute to get rid off the Tex deal...A-Rod I would have thrown in and PAID 20M a year just to do it, but it would have obviously cost more in prospects... Here is an interesting question...you think Cashman gets any heat for NOT pulling that trigger when he had the shot too if the Yankees don't make the playoffs this year? To me I think it is a fireable offense, he let a once in a lifetime opportunity go and balked on it only to have the team not make the playoffs...thinking about it now, he has to be kinda nervous...
No way. Hinesight is 20/20 and at the time of when the Dodgers approached the Yankees looking for Sabathia/Teixeira the Yankees had a very big lead in the AL East. IF Cashman dumped Sabathia and Teixeira at that time (I'm not sure the Yankee owners would have approved the trade anyway) fans, rightfully so, would have rioted. A trade like that has to be done at the end of the year or unless the team is totally out of the playoff hunt (like the Sox were). It would have been incredibly dumb if Cashman did that trade in the middle of this season at that point in time. And frankly that would have been a fireable offense if he did it. Even if the Yankees don't make the playoffs this year I think Cashman is completely safe and he probably should be.
Yeah I agree...as well....on top fo the owners not signing off (although I think Hal def would think about it) no way Tex, CC, and A-Rod waive......
