I don't think it was the wrong move to see if Gaby would come around. Lee just hasn't been very good this year and Gaby had a career .786 OPS before this year.

You can't really predict him falling off the face of the earth like that. Same with John Buck. Unfortunately this team just had incredible bad luck. If everyone played up to their potential, our lineup would have looked like:

    Reyes .800 OPS
    Boni .700 OPS
    Hanley .950 OPS
    Stanton .900 OPS
    Lomo .850 OPS
    Gaby .800 OPS
    Infante .750 OPS
    Buck .750 OPS

That's a top offensive lineup in the NL. Just didn't work out that way.

Maybe next year... team has just completely underperformed.

While I agree that this team is under performing, I don't think it's totally unexpected to see Bonifacio/Buck/Sanchez to regress. I think some may say they have seen it coming. Not this much regression but below average for sure.

My main issue is with Ramirez/Morrison/Reyes/Sanchez/Nolaco. Especially Hanley Ramirez. These guys are just too talented to be playing at this level. I feel that the regression with these guys was totally unexpected. I guess San Fran can say the same with Tim Lincecum, though.

That's revisionist history. Bonifacio definitely would regress and I even accounted for that above. It's silly to have expected the other two though, especially Buck when accounting for the fact that he had his lowest career BABIP by far last year.

To say you could/should have expected those two to struggle is silly.

I don't agree with that at all. Especially when it come to the caliber of talent they posses. Regression in baseball happens all the time. Why is it silly to expect that two average players could regress to be bad? Especially when one player, Buck, had proven he can have some pretty crappy years?

Because they became two of the worst every day players in baseball. That doesn't happen to guys who have been average their whole career.

I clearly said in my first post it is not unexpected to see them regress. Not by this much but below average for sure.

It's normal to have them go through stretches of being below average. This isn't normal. That was my entire point.

This is what I'm saying. No it is not unreasonable to expect Sanchez and Buck to have bad seasons. To perform at a below average rate. I don't think I agreed with you there. They both are not elite talents. They were average at best at the plate.

I do agree that having them perform THIS bad is unexpected.

I think we just have a semantics issue. There's a difference between an off year and regression like this.

That's what I am saying, though. It's not crazy to expect those 3 players to regress, basically having a bad year. Obviously not this bad but bad.

I guess I should have never used the word regress, as it sounds to permanent and suggests they will suck forever. I didn't mean that.

I know Stanton has a knee issue as well but I thought LoMo had been dealing with a leg/knee injury. Didn't he get surgery on it this offseason? I thought I read somewhere that the injury has been an issue for him this year, he possibly rushed back too quickly?

Ruggiano with another MONSTER 2 run HR... there is absolutely NO WAY that they can bench this guy.

Stanton leaving the game early today after making a running catch isn't good... but it will give Ruggiano some playing time (not the way any of us want it, obviously).

Even if Stanton were healthy I think Ruggiano would be played over Boni, at least until he goes cold.

... Here is to hoping he makes a quick recovery. Gonna miss seeing those monster HR's for the time being. At least he has the all star break in between to recover.

So now Ruggiano is our best hitter.

… Get well soon, Cobradick Stanton.

Ehh, I wouldn't say he is. He's our hottest hitter but I think it's either LoMo or Hanley.

Hanley should be our best hitter, Reyes a close second. But just going on recent performance, Ruggiano takes that award.

I don't disagree with that. But he hasn't had that many at bats. He'll cool down and he'll most likely be behind Hanley, Reyes, and LoMo.

Which is why I said he's our hottest hitter but not best.

Its getting to the point where I wonder if the guy who bust onto the scene is Hanley or this player we have now is Hanley.

Once pitchers have seen him a couple of times, they might cool him down. Happens all the time but I sure hope he keeps tearing it up...
