Very lenient strike zone for Lohse.

Word has it, Pat Riley is going to drive out to the ballpark during Heat halftime and bat for the Marlins.

Yes it does. I left work at 8 and heard from about the 3rd inning on during the drive home. Sounds pretty horrific, especially for JJ.

Take it easy on JJ. 3 runs in 6 innings coming back from injury in your first real start isn't bad. He will improve and he got out of some jams. Offense has been disappointing. To say the least. Still time left.

In defense of our offense it is hard to hit when the opposing pitcher gets strikes called 6 inches off the plate.

Gotta say, that strike zone they're granting Lohse has been a joke.

I'm not going hard on him. But this was a pretty bad night by any standard. Just calling it as I see (or in this case, hear) it.

It didn't look as bad as it sounded. Most of his base runners have come with one or two outs, and he worked out of the situations. He didn't hang many pitches and there were just some good at bats. IMO in context his start wasn't that bad. Not to mention his strike zone has been TINY while Lohse has been throwing into the grand canyon.

I fear that is game over. Would have been nice if Kearns could have driven that run in from second. We have three more outs but two runs would be a lot less daunting than three.

All in all a game I can appreciate, and bias aside, Rapuano and K-zone were far more in sync than many nights. KZone confirmed many of what was being complained about and if you go to MLB stats and PitchFX they too prove it that strikes were strikes correctly. Not much to complain about per the actual strike zone - it will get worse unitl they finally move to PitchFX for B/S in the future.

Just 1 game of a long 162 and if they grow the grass correctly for infield and outfield over the coming months, the team speed should pay off huge....and I think the jet stream with roof open or closed will allow for some balls to leave the yard, but its a field that plays to the teams strengths in the long run.

Personally I don't trust the K Zone worth a ****. I trust my eyes more as I've seen enough baseball to know what is a ball and what is a strike.

Agreed though that it is only 1 of 162 and I'm not upset about dropping it.

LOL Baseball Tonight says Hanley could be a gold glove third baseman. I'm sorry and I love Hanley but he isn't a gold glove anything. Maybe like....gold glove left fielder

PitchFX is legit and spot on.....(K-Zone from ESPN seems pretty accurate tonight and matches up pretty well with PitchFX data - but yes, it must be an improvement because KZone in the past was suspect.)

Wish MLB forced all Networks to get the PitchFX feed and use that only....but perhaps some day.

http://www.brooksbaseball.net/ (Home of PitchFX data) great site and great report cards on Umps, etc.

    Interesting.

Like I said regardless it's only one game of the season. I'd rather start off slow and build steam than start off on fire and fade away again.

Hanley and gold glove should never be in the same sentence.

Well that isn't true. The sentence could be: Hanley Ramirez will never win a gold glove.

To be fair though I think part of his problem is that he thinks too much. Maybe he will be a bit better with less time to think and just play on instinct. Still though...Gold Glove? No.

    Now prove me wrong Hanley....

I mean, I'm not saying he can't improve and be a GG defender. Anything can happen. But until I see it, I will laugh at the thought.

    So happy baseball is back!

Yeah me too. I never follow too closely in the offseason but then once the season starts I always remember how much I love my Marlins.
