No trade clause.....although these days 27.5M is like a no trade clause who takes on that money?

Listen Marlins fans bottom line coming from a Yankees fan, be VERY happy you didnt get AP, and CJ for those contracts.....that would have killed you guys for years, and there is no guarantee you guys would have even made the playoffs....

baseball is a very weird animal...

    Maybe it was the extras.

Maybe the Angels worked something out with the Clippers in order to have Chris Kaman, Mo Williams and other Clippers scrubs cut his grass every other week.

wow. 10 years for $275 million? I would have crowned that the worst contract in baseball history if it had gone through. I may still crown the Angel's version the same. Unreal.

The contract in itself was a NTC.

100% agree. I know Marlins wanted to make a splash, but for the franchises future its a good thing. That Buerhle contracts looks genius compared to that pujols contract, and the contract the marlins were offering Wilson.

I'm just glad they're willing to spend money. To me, this shows that payroll could be around 130 million if they want to spend that much. That is very encouraging.

    I think that's wishful thinking.

The only saving grace for Pujols/Angels is that he can start DH'ing some right away, and eventually transition into a DH all together down the road. But still...horrid, horrid contract. Moreno's favorite time of year is the Winter Meetings.

How is it wishful thinking when it could have happened had Pujols accepted the deal? He would have put us around 120, but I'm positive they would be willing to go higher.

With Pujols, I believe it was possible through foreign Latin marketing. Without that, I doubt it. Darren Rovell expects the Marlins to lose money if the payroll breaches $105. Most of the previous (and optimistic) market projections had us as able to support a payroll in the 80-85 range with being able to get near $100 during peak years.

I'm not sure what's going on or how we would be able to pull this off but I seriously doubt this can be sustained as a longterm business plan.

I did forget about the Latin Market. Still, even with the C.J Wilson signing, it would have put us at 114. And that's with Reyes making 10 million this season. That shows something.

That 275 mil offer from the Marlins to Pujols story? a complete LIE as per LeBatard and as per me.

    Pujols is one greedy athlete.

Not for nothing...but if someone is going to offer me a quarter of a billion dollars...I am probably going to take it. The blame should be on the stupid owners who still haven't learned their lesson with these types of contracts.

Him leaving the Cards pretty much puts them towards the bottom of the NL. If the Brewers could find a way to sign Fielder back, they could own that division for years.

This. I will never fault someone for taking the most amount of money someone is willing to give them for their services. The player has certainly earned it and let's not forget the money is coming from a billionaire owner so let's not have too much sympathy for them.

Not even close. Their top two pitchers are still Wainwright and Carpenter. They are still a playoff contender.

Green = bench player if he makes the team.

Martin = spot starter, minor leaguer.

    And some Stanton news

after dust settles #Marlins plan internal talks on possible multi-yr deal for Mike Stanton but no time-frame yet for those talks.

Nick Green is a veteran infielder. He’ll be a bench guy as BIOTH says.

JD Martin is a pitcher in the minors who can be called up if needed.

Good call Section. Final offer to Pujols was 201 million, not 275. You really do know the right people, lol.

Lebetard said same thing too. Plus, NTC or not, he'd be a Marlin if it was 275. No one wipes their *** with 40m+

I was told it was 225 for 10. maybe there was something that would have bumped it up to 225 or something.

    Maybe a signing bonus?

I heard the Cardinals offer was 9 years for around 190 million or so.
