Hey it could be worse though, I remember back in December of 2003 waiting 2 weeks for ARod to be traded to Boston only it not happening. That was the worst, followed closely by the Adrian Gonzalez deal last year when it was reported a deal was set on Friday night and wasn't final until Sunday night after a deadline was set and past. I hate how these things can just drag on and on like this. You wouldn't think something like this would be so hard.

If STL has truly matched the offer, and it's his preference to stay, there should be no further delays or anything to discuss.

I am wondering if the supposed STL offer is a bit of a sham to make albert look like the bad guy if he leaves

Dan LeBatard had a good tweet earlier, I retweeted it (@ChrisC561 btw) That maybe the meeting yesterday with the guy for the commish. office was because they offered Pujols a % of ownership or % of tv contract money.

Could be interesting and something STL couldnt match.

 

What also pisses me off is Philadelphia's interest in Gio Gonzalez. No way they land him. Logan Morrison is better than Dominic Brown.

 

I like that the marlins are forcing the issue and are ready to pivot to Fielder, Wilson and Buerhle.

 

Yeah, a decision needs to be made.

In purely baseball terms, I'd rather have fielder and buerhle than just Pujols but I understand why you need Pujols from a business/merketing perspective

 

I would be worried but Pujols seems like he's really taking his time thinking this through.

 

The Marlins are much better off doing that than signing Pujols to a 10 year deal.

Pujols not signing right away is a cause for concern. Even if he doesn't sign, I like our backup options, which may be even more beneficial to us in the long run. If he does sign, does anyone expect him to play for full 10 years of his contract? We'll get 5 seasons out of him at best. If we can make a run in that time then it would be worth it. If not, I'm content building with some younger talent with Reyes and Hanley(if he stays) leading the way. C.J. Wilson would be a nice catch but I don't see it happening. We could also trade Hanley for some pitching and/or young hitting prospects. In any scenario I'm already pretty excited about this team, and I'm a very casual baseball fan.

 

He is doing what he is supposed to be doing....he is waiting to see if a teams ups it....if what they are reporting is true, and he has 2 offers that are the same, I would wait as well.....plus not to mention, Theo is kicking the tires....

If Heyman is accurate that Pujols is meeting with Cards right now I imagine we have an answer within the hour. I mean, what is left to discuss?

If he wants to stay in STL and their offer is competetive then there should be no hold-up.

 

From his perspective he's doing the correct thing. For the Marlins perspective, the longer he waits, the more it becomes difficult to lure him in. Like Free Agency in all other sports, timing is everything and you want your targeted player to sign ASAP.

If he doesn't make up his mind by soon, the Marlins should just drop out. This is taking too long.

 

hmmmm they moved the Reyes presser up a couple of hours, some speculating its to make room for another announcement?

Also, someone tweeted Gammons is still saying on mlb network Pujols will be a Marlin.

 

We do not have money for multiple free agents. There is no Wilson and Buerhle, or Fielder and Wilson. If we miss out on Pujols, its Buerhle or nothing.
