Alot of people seem to think Jesus should get called today with Jeter, and A-Rod out , but the time isnt there to make it to Boston...plus just wait the 48 hours, it isnt desperation time...

Baneulous pitched well against Pawt yesterday as well 7IP....1 hit I believe...

A lot of people seem to be stupid, calling him up now instead of just waiting until Thursday would be the absolute worst time to do it because it would mean either putting someone on the DL for 15 days, opting someone to the minors (which the player would have to spend 10 days in the minors unless the player was called up as an injury replacement) or DFAing someone. Plus do you really want him to make his MLB debut against the Red Sox IN Boston? Not the best way to ease in a younger player.

Like you said the team isn't desperate right now.

I agree they shouldn't bring him up....Eh better than Posada grounding into 2 DP's killing potentially BIG innings, with Lackey on the ropes......I am just not a fan of easing...

I finally watched the game this morning...couple of quick things....

    1) Cervilli is an idiot but made me laugh, and deserved to get plunked (yes Fink regardless of the situation I think that was intentional and for good reason)
    2) That ump was awful, gave a foot to the outside part on left handed batters, like Roger Clemens-esque
    3) Cano would terrorize that wall if he played in Boston
    4) Why cant CC pitch to A-Gone all 27 times, still cant believe he was swinging at that crap
    5) Marco Scuturo is a Yankee killer
    6) Salty swung
    7) Lowrie should be pissed, but I will take it
    8) Thank God I have DVR, 4 hour game turned into 2....

    My responses:

    1. Of course it was intentional but it was completely dumb to do it in that spot. It's freakin' Cervilli. He shows you up so what, if you want to get revenge get the guy out the next time. That was a pretty big run the Yankees got with Lackey putting him on 1st base (to lead off the inning no less) instead of a 2 run lead it gave the Yankees a 3 run lead. Just stupid baseball. I'm not saying not stick up for your team but these guys play 18 plus times a year if you want to include spring training and possibly the post season, there's plenty of time for revenge. I do think Cervilli's antics behind the plate are a little much but again the best revenge is to get him out or beat his team.

    2. Yeah the home plate ump was terrible. There were so many gift strike calls it wasn't even funny.

    3. Cano = good at baseball no matter where he plays.

    4. CC certainly has Gonzalez's number right now. He made him look silly in every plate appear this year except Gonzalez's "Ichiro" home run earlier in the year.

    5. I'm still not a Marco fan, it would be nice if the Red Sox got a real solid everyday SS one of these years.

    6. I didn't see the at bat but it wouldn't shock me that the ump blew the call, they were bad all night.

    7. It's nice that some pitchers get gift strike calls based on rep. It would be nicer if a pitcher got a strike call if he you know actually threw a strike too.

    8. It's painful to sometimes watch these Sox/Yankee games. Most of the time they're exciting good baseball games but when they're not it's really hard to watch due to the pace of the game etc.

Salty got hit on the left forearm by a Rivera pitch but was in the process of swinging and broken the plane on the check swing; they awarded him 1st base anyway, and Girardi got tossed immediately...

Here is to hoping the umpiring gets better....cuz if it is the playoffs both teams have reason for *****ing...

I agree with Fink. No reason to hit Cerville. It's a close game at the time, you don't want to get the lead off hitter on, and well its Cerville. Out of everyone on the yankees, he should be the easiest player to get out. If the game was out of reach then go a head hit the guy, but the Sox were only down 2 runs

And considering the Red Sox had the bases loaded with only 1 out in the bottom half of that inning just magnifies what a dumb decision it was. It was just selfish stupid baseball. There's a time and a place for everything and that wasn't it.

    Just got finished again....few thoughts...

    1) Whatever A-Gone had, he gave it to Cano last night hahaha
    2) Elsbury is a star
    3) 5 runs should be enough to win
    4) Hughes for having good velocity still just looks off
    5) The law of avgs says Logan was due to give up that hit
    6) Beckett is painfully slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww to watch
    7) Baseball is sometimes a Tek squibber down the 3rd base line, that dance on top of the padding instead of going in the stands...reminds me of when Damon crashed into the wall a few years back trying to make a grab on a Manny (I think) flyball and it just stayed there...
    8) Gardner is tipping pitches...
    9) The Hughes/AJ to the pen debate isnt solved...

    Again my responses:

    1) Cano had a big double to start that 6th inning rally though. But how bad has Teixeira been this year vs. the Sox?
    2) Yeah I had no clue Ellsbury would have this much power but a guy that can play a solid CF (I'm still pissed he didn't catch Jeter's ball in the 2nd/3rd) with speed and able to hit 20+ HRs is definitely a star.
    3) You'd think so but these teams both are just so good at the plate in terms of everything.
    4) The problem with Hughes and this has always been the case is that his fastball is straight and when a pitcher has no movement on the pitch good teams are going to hit him unless he has plus off speed pitches to keep the hitters honest.
    5) I loved how Logan last series said Gonzalez had no shot at him and two games ago said he knew he'd get the Sox out yet last night he was nowhere to be found after the game. Be accountable. Again baseball is a hard game but players should be at their lockers when they fail just as much if not more than when they're there when they do well.
    6) Yeah Beckett is very slow, especially when there are runners on base.
    7) "That's baseball, Suszyn" - John Sterling
    8) Yeah he definitely was, and there's nothing wrong with that but if he gets a fastball in the back that's why. And I don't think there would be anything wrong with that either (just as long as it doesn't go higher than the back). Thankfully Beckett is smarter than Lackey and realized it's better to get revenge by keeping him off the bases instead.
    9) If I were a Yankee fan I wouldn't be comfortable with either guy starting though. What has Hughes done to earn a rotation spot? He's been just as bad as Burnett this year. A playoff rotation of CC, Nova, Colon and Garcia perhaps?

Yes thank you and for that matter Fink, in every big spot against any good team Tex is a JOKE....Fans/media rag on A-Rod, but let this guy off??.....Yankee fans are so godamn jaded by this guy it isn't even funny, hell even Heyman had him in his MVP race like what?? Tex along with most of them cant hit good pitching plain and simple, cant wait to watch him go 2-17 in the playoffs again....

Yep CC, Nova, Colon, and Garcia...I agree..thats their best shot....

and lastly yup it is definitely baseball suszyn hahhaha

Teixeira is a very good player don't get me wrong and he's had a lot of bad luck with his BABIP but you're right he doesn't seem to hit good pitching very much. Swisher is another one that never seems to come through, especially in the playoffs.

I find Heyman's articles interesting but they usually make me laugh and pound my head into the desk. I like reading his around the majors part of his articles the best because it reminds me of Gammons' gossip columns but in terms of actual baseball analysis I think Heyman falls way way way short and usually has some kind of agenda he's trying to push.

I actually have more hope for Swisher than Tex in the play-offs....watch every Tex AB, he swings from his *** trying to hit it 450ft....even with 2 strikes, like bro shorten your swing up and make contact!!!

I saw Gammons this morning, the dude is in rough shape, I wish he would retire and spare himself, much like Sterling....studders, spits, over exaggerates (said that Elsbury killed the pitch for a HR) when it landed in the front row of the Monster Seats....he isnt the same Gammons I grew up too...poor guy..

Is there ever an inning in which the yankees score and then dont give up a run in the next half inning?

This team is so tiring to watch, one day they score 22 and the next, anemia sets in. Like jekyl and Hyde.

Im really tired of watching A.J., i think the yankees should bite the bullett here and put him in the bullpen, he is tailore-made to be a closer, he can be a two pitch pitcher and not worry about the slider or the curve working for him. Someone might need to hold his hand and wipe his tears when they tell him this decision, but thats where he should be. Phil on the other hand, i cant remember who in the thread said it, but it's true, HE ISNT RIGHT. The yankees are piss poor at taking care of young pitchers and he is a victim of this. I close my eyes and pray everytime he throws a pitch and last night his excuse for the walk to J.J. redick (a moth flew in his eye) was the creme de la creme for me. He has no control and no idea where his pitches are going to end up. I dont want to give up on a 25yr old, but jeez, maybe he needs time in triple A to get his crap together......

As for Tex, i agree with evryone here, he looks dumb on off speed pitches, im surprised more teams dont just throw curves in the dirt to him and take their chances with walking him. He is a + defender, but no where the hitter he can and should be.

This lineup is vry different without A-rod, Cano seems to be the only threat, with swish sometimes being a close 2nd. I would call Grandy a threat, but the strikeouts are too much for me....

Gardner looks like hes on a "sit and spin" at the plate lately....almost like he's trying to hit for power now....

This team will make the playoffs, but i dont expect them to go very far.

Well I don't know why I bother watching todays game. Yeah the yankees took an early lead, 1-0, but Aj Burnett is pitching, which they should have a Under/over on how many innings he pitches today. I will set the under/over at 4 1/2 and I will take the under. Easy money to bet against Aj this year, especially in August.

oh and it is Red Sox/Yankees hahahah

Only New York gets 43 pitches thrown at them in one inning, and comes away with one run...no contact hitters...

    Last game points

    1) Granderson is also a star
    2) Say what you want about the Marquez, but he was consistant, and called a good strikezone
    3) Montero doesnt looking thrilled to be in The Show
    4) Scuturo still kills NY
    5) Lowrie looks like Dennis Leary except younger obviously
    6) JT, betting in baseball you might as well just give your money away to charity instead, hardest sport to bet
    7) Glad these game are done finally...now we can get back to normal baseball lol

    1) Yeah you really need to credit Granderson and Kevin Long for retooling his swing. He was looking like he was coming close to being a platoon player due to his lack of hitting against LHP but whatever work he did obviously worked. He had a huge catch last night that saved the game for the Yankees.
    2) I didn't see the 1st or 9th inning (still don't have cable) but listening to the game on the radio the announcers, granted they were Red Sox ones, said Lester was getting squeezed. Lester obvious problem was he couldn't put away Yankee hitters when he had 2 strikes on them, which is ironic because he K'ed the side. After the game Gonzalez said the last pitch Rivera threw him was a ball so obviously he didn't agree with the strike zone. Also a big underrated play of the game was the none HBP call on Ortiz after Pedroia's HR. Things for Burnett could have started to snowball but with the none call and then getting Ortiz out quickly after that seemed to calm AJ down a bit.
    3) Montero had the weirdest reaction when he got "hit" by Aceves. I think he was actually surprised and didn't even know the ball hit him. But yeah the kid was pretty stone faced all night. Probably just rookie nerves.
    4) Yeah he had a good series now he'll turn back into a pumpkin.
    5) Lowrie actually looks exactly like San Diego Padres GM Jed Hoyer. Seriously google pictures of both of them. The Sox used to joke around with both of them about it too, especially since both had the same first name.
    6) I'm not a betting man to begin with but you're a complete sucker for betting on single baseball games.
    7) I agree, again like I said you get pumped for Sox/Yankee games but most of the time the games are either too slow and boring or too intense that you can't enjoy them.

I really thought the Sox were in trouble after Lester threw 43 pitches in the 1st and just had a bad feeling Burnett would pitch well last night.

He was getting squeezed sure, anything 6 inches+ was a ball...but alot of the squeezed pitches were actually balls....IDK maybe he is used to getting those pitches....every pitcher got squeezed last night and thats all you can ask for is consistancy...Me personally I like a tight strike zone...nothing worse than a guy getting punched out on an obvious ball like Lowrie did in Game 1.....

Gammons actually brought up a good point in that Rivera was pounding A-Gone in in in in with the cutter the whole AB, and I was getting nervous because I knew he was going to the outside and with the bases loaded that is dangerous to a guy like A-Gone......all he has to do is flip the wrist and the game might be over.....but anyways in in in, then bang outside low, Marquez was on the inside part of the plate his POV was skewed.....it was too close to take, could have went either way, and regardless of how good A-Gone is, Rivera always gets that pitch....

I am not saying right now and not for a full game but for a half inning it would be cool. They should have done it in 08. And yeah maybe it may be dangerous but as a fan I would love to see it. And I honestly don't think its that dangerous. He would have to be smart about it and not dive for balls or hit the wall

I have to wonder, not just because they lost but, when I saw yesterdays lineup...what exactly the hell Girardi was thinking....

Why not play the regulars yesterday go for the series win, and then sit everybody today, when after this game they have to fly out to the West Coast and play tomorrow....makes no sense...

In fairness to Girardi, Tuesday's game got over at what 2:30 in the morning and the players had to be back for a 1:00 game. That's kind of tough of them. Plus the team could have won with that line up yesterday and almost did. It's hard to knock him for that. Plus the weather conditions stunk too, that was probably a factor too.

I doubt it, if Girardi is more concerned about getting a pitcher to a meaningless win number than he's doing more harm than good. He probably looked at the state of his team and figured yesterday was a good day to rest guys especially with the awful field conditions to boot. The loss didn't hurt the Yankees in the standings anyway so it wasn't a big deal.
