Yeah he shouldn't start against RHP ever.

28 at bats, 8 hits, 2 HRs, .286/.394/.536/.930 line against him. Yeah he does well against him.

The bigger shocker is he's just 1 for 10 with 6 Ks against John Lackey in his career, which just goes to show you he's useless against RHPers.

Makes a kind of sense, Willis is spotty, but if you get the decent Willis you found a cheapish starter.

Willis signed with Philly already. And yes, I'd be interested in Willis but only as a LOOGY.

Jerry Crasnick is reporting via Twitter that the Red Sox have traded Kyle Weiland to the Astros for a bullpen piece.

Nice trade for Houston. Actually any fragment of talent going to Houston looks good.

thejman1111, although I'm not very interesting on Twitter. I use it more for the info.

Wow not sure if I'm a fan of this deal. I mean the Sox get 5 years of control with Melancon but I'd have to figure Lowrie would be more valuable than that.

alright now this makes sense, they view him as a closer.....so I guess Bard is going to the rotation....numbers are nice, AL East is a little different..

5 years of cost control closer isn't bad though IF he pans out...and it was obvious the Sox didnt view him as a their everyday SS going forward....

2 big gambles this year for them in the CP, and SP positions...

I wonder how heavy they were in on Darvish...

Lowrie was blocked by Scutaro for this year at SS and Iglesias in the future, the Sox have Aviles as a back up INFer so Lowrie really didn't have a future on this time, adding to the fact he's been hurt a lot in his career. Weiland would have been a bullpen arm, it was clear he couldn't start in the AL East. I guess I'm starting to come around to this trade more now that I'm thinking about it.

I don't think the Sox are done, I still think they'll end up trading for Andrew Bailey.

Punto is nice insurance, basically same player as Scuturo.

Melancon returning to AL East as setup guy is a small piece to puzzle but a risk as well. Another move or two has to be made by Sox for more reliability in the back end of both rotation and pen. Shakey dominoes are still a wobbling!

Houston did about as well as it could with this move.

Because he will test the market when available, and not resign...might as well get a BOATLOAD for him via a trade...

you say that like it's happening next year. he signed a 5 year extension two years ago, not like his contract is ending soon.

I know, being cost controlled for the next 3 years is even bigger leverage in a trade request....but that gives them this and next year to make a really good deal....or sign him to an extension...

personally I would like to see Felix stay in Seattle.....I like when superstars stay with their teams they came up with.....

The Blue Jays bid more than $40MM and possibly close to $50MM for Yu Darvish and are now favorites to win exclusive negotiating rights with him, George A. King III of the New York Post reports. Multiple sources confrim the Post's report to Jim Bowden of MLB Network Radio and ESPN.com, who says the Blue Jays "won the bidding" (Twitter link).

The Yankees also posted a bid on Darvish, but it's not expected to top Toronto's bid, according to King. The Rangers made a bid and there's a belief the Cubs made a large bid, the Post reports. Rogers Communications, which owns the Blue Jays, ordered the team to make a "monster" bid, King reports.

The Nippon Ham Fighters have until 4pm CDT on December 20th to accept or reject the high bid for Darvish. The Fighters don't know the identity of the MLB team that won the bidding on Darvish, but they're expected to accept the bid.

Wow, 10M savings from Twins...but loss of position flexibility that Cuddy provides over Willy. Basically same hitter and power bat....but Cuddy plays so many more spots for National League team that the extra $10M cost Rockies, and Minny can save if they think the team will be healthier this season with M&M boys.

STL & MIL should have made a bigger play for Cuddy! - another mistake!

Credit once again to Cashman playing it smart....not worth the risk at those combined #'s (posting fee plus contract) at all.

Big Trade between Padres and Reds:
I personally think SD did a bang up job on this one. Now Cincy had the extra pieces to move and wanted to improve its rotation, but Alonso and Volquez would have been enough to get Latos, so Grandal and Boxberger are extra free pieces.
