Agreed on all points...Actually, i thought girardi managed that game kinda sloppy anyway. I have a feeling he was trying to keep Arod from playing so he could have an extra day off. Oh well!

I like Sheps, not a huge fan of Georges. I agree with the Arm Band. I don't think they need his full name. For Sheppard i would have loved a tiny microphone someone on the jersey. I think that would have been enough and looked real nice!

Wow, the rumor is that the GMS badge is going to be placed ABOVE the NY on the Yanks Uni (on the front, above the NY)....please tell me this isnt true??

No way THE BOSS would have wanted this....he would has said, simple armband is the only way to go. Its about TRADITION.

Please tell me not above the NY on the front. Oh the horror!

Two patches is bad enough....one on the front of the jersey above the NY is way out of place.

Please stop this before a huge error in judgment is made......go with simple Arm Band for GMS....do not proceed. Horrible, Horrible decision.

    Reported on the ESPN ticker:

    A-rod has a minor thumb injury;

That steinbrenner patch is ridiculous. He is gonna fire someone from up above for this fiasco.

well the Boston collapse continues. If we can sweep the Rays my prediction of being up by 6 games come August will be well on its way to happening. I think we might be able to pull it off. I'm pretty sure we take two but think if Burnett wins game two we will sweep outright

    Here's a few interesting stats:

Against Baltimore, Cleveland and Houston the Yankees are 16-3
Against Boston, Tampa Bay and Toronto the Yankees are 8-8
Against everyone else the Yankees are 25-22

Are the Yankees really as good as their record or is it misleading because they have beat up the really bad teams (which is what good teams are suppose to do)?

Personally I do think the Yankees are the best team in baseball but I do think they have a lot more kinks in the armor than they did last year.

EDIT: The Yankees have played 88 games up until this point but if you add up that I posted it only gives you 82 games so 6 games are unaccounted for. I got the stat figures from ESPN, go figure. My point still remains, the Yankees are good at beating up the bad teams but almost average against everyone else.

Agreed totally...the bats arent clutch this year, and you need clutch bats come playoff time...the Yankees miss Matsui, and I never for the life of me get how they didnt offer him a contract.....Matsui hit EVERYBODY, and anything.....but most of all was clutch....samething with Damon, but I dont feel bad for Damon, the offer was on the table.......he didnt take it...

Come playoff time, everybody is going to see good pitching, and NY is going to have to fgure out, how to hit some good pitching....however Tex is playing better, so is A-Rod....Jeter is baffling this year, so far.....

Sorry, the GMS patch is exactly what I thought it would be....a mistake....should not be placed on the front of the jersey!

Put it on the sleeve...or better yet.....use the traditional black arm band!

On a night when manager Joe Girardi cried, captain Derek Jeter’s face went flush as he spoke to the crowd and closer Mariano Rivera placed two long-stemmed roses across home plate to remember Steinbrenner and beloved public address announcer Bob Sheppard, the Yankees won—what better way for them to honor their owner?

Swisher hit a tying home run in the eighth, then lined a single that sent Curtis Granderson(notes) sliding home for the victory.

It's not as bad as I thought (mainly because it's not as big as I thought it would be) but it does look awkward. I agree just use the black arm band and maybe just have the patch over it or simply the initials.

I will say, Derek Jeter needs to get his head of his ***....in the last AB, Wheeler gave him literally 3 hanging curve balls, and Jeet couldnt do anything but foul it off, then looked awful striking out on another pitch...

I havent seen him this bad, since the 1-for-June several years ago, when he got booed...

well i know we win tmw. i had a bad feeling about Burnett. Still if we can load the bases next inning I think we have a shot

down 10-4 in the 8th, its dark and we're wearing sunglasses. Hit it!

Well, taking the series and ending the week and extending the leads over both TB (3.0) and Red Sox (6.5) is big news.....however, having 2 of your SP in back to back starts exit early is the bad news.

Burnett plays punch a door and cuts up both hands (should not miss a turn - but is that good news?), and now AP has left groin injury and could miss 4-5 weeks???

So now its Mitre time and most likely move some bullpen around or get new arm via Trade wire?

Will have to wait and see...but bats are heating up some...which is nice to see.

i knew we would win two out of three with the AJ game being the game that decided if we swept or not. The bats will have to get us through August. Hopefully Petitte isnt on the IR too long. It happens, we just have to get through it. We've built enough of a cushion that we wont get hurt to bad by this

Very inconsistent team right now....shaky SP, problems with timely hitting....doing just enough to keep our heads/wits right now. Only good thing is when we lose so do those chasing us.....but that cant stay that way forever.

Man, watching Hughes the other night concerns me...not sure if its strickly innings (which I dont buy) its composure...the ump sucked, he was getting squeezed but he should have enough on his stuff for swing and miss but letting weak-hitting infielders Jack you out of the yard is inexcusable. Its his compusure to overcome bad or inconsistent zones...and his D lets him down with Grandy in Center.

Actually, I am getting fed up with inconsistent OFFICIAL SCORING and inconsistent STRIKE ZONES all over the league....and then watching these UMPs get short fuses when they are the ones at fault based on MISSED CALLS and inconsistent zones all year long. Its bad for the game.

Pitch FX (http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/pfx.php?) is the best tool to accurately see if its a true Ball or STRIKE and it sickens me to watch how many pitches are missed....I accept an ump that calls a BALL a STRIKE consistently cause they extend the ZONE...but any ump that misses a STRIKE in the standard ZONE and calls it a ball should be sent back for training...its horrible....its bad for the game.

Our bats are doing fine but our starting pitching needs to step up or we will bounced in the playoffs. We need Petitte, Sabbathia and Hughes to be hitting on all cylinders come October

Hughes will not be in the rotation come playoff time....they will move him to pen.....if its not CC, Burnett, AP come playoff time we have major issues (if Vazq is still with us he will be spot start 4th option).

AJ has to snap out of his funk for us come playoff time, but Hughes wont sniff a start come OCT.

why do you say that? I know that was the plan originally but I have to think they'll switch the two come October and have AJ be the 4th or come in off the bench. You really think they would stick to their guns if AJ is still hit or miss?

They wont push his innings....we are talking long term value over feeling he is the answer over AJ or Vazq as 3rd/4th arm.

And thats fine.....normally a 20-30 inning increase is typical year over year toward working a starter to get to 200+....well Hughes tossed 86 last year (his MLB high....his career high by the way was 2006 rookie ball with 146 - thats it.) and they were willing to double that to 160 this year as a full time starter. Thats a lot. 160 is normal for 1st time full time starter...then year 2 would get you near 180+....then by 3rd year you have worked toward the 200 goal for full season...so that following that, year in year out you are full bore full time starter in the 200+ mold. Standard Operating Procedure for young arms (unless your name is Dusty Baker - which isnt a good name)

PH is at 106 right now.....so even if they get him to 160 as Starter (expect 6 innings/avg for 9 remaining starts - if he goes more than 6 in a given start he chips into future starts).....his innings balance will come out of the pen.

We have 10 weeks of baseball left in regular season with approx 10-12 starts remaining per SP. So Phil will see limited Sept starts let alone any Oct as I see it.

    MLB TRADE RUMORS http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/

The D’Backs have started exchanging names with teams about possible Dan Haren trades and the Tigers, Yankees, Phillies, Cardinals and Twins appear to have varying degrees of interest in the righty. That’s just the abbreviated version of what we heard yesterday, but there’s more. The D’Backs’ asking price? High-quality major league-ready pitching. With that in mind, here are today’s Dan Haren rumors, with more to come:

    • According to Rosenthal, the Yankees appear to be the front-runners for Haren now, with the D'Backs telling clubs that they're in "advanced negotiations" with one team. Ed Price of AOL FanHouse adds (via Twitter) that the Cardinals may be out of the Haren sweepstakes.
    • The Yankees are actively talking to the D’backs about Haren, according to Jayson Stark of ESPN.com. If the Yanks can acquire Haren for prospects, Stark says they are poised to accelerate talks.

    updates.....

    • In a piece for FOXSportsArizona.com, Jack Magruder notes that the Yankees aren't one of the teams that require Haren's approval. Magruder also suggests a trade with the Yanks could involve New York taking on other players that the D'Backs would like to move, such as Aaron Heilman, Chad Qualls, or Chris Snyder.
    • D'Backs' CEO Derrick Hall tells Piecoro (Twitter link) that there's no clear front-runner for Haren and reiterates "nothing [is] imminent." However, most reports still indicate that the Yanks are the favorite. AOL FanHouse's Frankie Piliere (via Twitter) and Morosi both hear that Ivan Nova could be a key piece in a Haren trade with New York.
    • Expanding on his earlier tweet, Price hears that nothing is imminent between the Yankees and Arizona, but that the D'Backs "seem determined" to move Haren before his next start on Tuesday.

    additional updates....LONG SHOT

The Diamondbacks evidently want the Yankees to take on the contracts of Chad Qualls and Chris Snyder in any deal for Dan Haren. The Bronx Bombers have balked at that idea, as well as the idea of giving up Joba Chamberlain.

They are willing to part with Ivan Nova, Zach McAllister and two other prospects, according to SI's Jon Heyman, and would be willing to pay all of Haren's salary in this scenario.

Whether it's to the Yankees or someone else, it seems as if Haren is likely to be wearing a uniform other than Arizona's by July 31

Are these people out of their minds, seriously?? My daughter wouldnt do that trade the way they want it.....ready for some good news!!

Andy Pettitte says he's not having any problems with his strained groin and that he expects to return to the Yankees much sooner than anticipated, according to the AP.

The left-hander had to be removed from last Sunday's start with the groin ailment. He played catch Saturday from 60 feet for about five minutes and will fly to Florida on Monday to continue his rehab. The Yankees have pegged mid-August for Pettitte's return, but it sounds like the veteran southpaw thinks he can be back earlier than that. We'll see if this news affects their pursuit of Dan Haren.

Yup....agree.....interesting news then....The Diamondbacks traded SP Dan Haren to the Angels for SP Joe Saunders, RP Rafael Rodriguez, minor league pitcher Patrick Corbin and a player to be named later on Sunday. Haren made 21 starts for Arizona, going 7-8 with a 4.60 ERA.
