Well, only taking 1 of the 4 vs CHI SOX (maybe its a Sox thing?) wasnt what we needed since O's laid out the red carpet for Red Sox and their bats...sheesh....

so 1/2 game lead...with 2 @ TOR and then finally back to the Stadium for the big 4.

Sox have their 2 @ TB will be very interesting leading up to the clash.

Big win vs Doc tonight (HR balls were flying)...and now with the Sox loss it puts us back to 1.5 game lead....(Sox coughing up the lead vs TB is icing on the cake).

We each have 1 more on the road (us TOR, them TB) then is 4 straight @ The Stadium.

    Huge.........

Who knows....some good arms will be out their, I bet both sides dont dig in to confidently.:wink2:

Now to the really important stuff........YES! The Monkey is off their back....finally.

I didnt like how it started with the Posada non-slide @ home - seriously what was he thinking? - let along the lack of direction from Melky via the on-deck circle (both should be fined in Kangaroo Court:lol:), and Joba was off his game for sure (he wasnt as animated - which if it leads to being off his game thats not a good thing...if so....then f'em please go back to the first pump..:shifty:).

But boy, the bats were once again on fire...thank goodness cause each top inning was a merry go round on the basepaths - ugly, but fortunately the Yanks pen kept putting out the fires their own walks were causing.

Hey, at the end of the day, its the first Win this season in the rivalry, and its a sweet one. 1-8 baby, and closing fast?

Now we are at a 3.5 game lead with 3 remaining over the weekend. Yanks are hot and on a roll, and I hope the ride continues for a long time.:hi5:

Melancon is an idiot. Up by 9 runs and you're throwing at a guy's head twice? Someone is going to get hurt this weekend.

It says more about him not having MLB control and should be back in AAA then it does to make the leap he was throwing at Pedroia.

Every Yankees arm was horrific in their control. never saw so many 4 pitch walks by one staff like that....18 walks = zero control. The problem is the attempts to throw inside, when you dont have control to begin with.

He threw one completely over Pedroia's head and then hit him on his shoulder. I would find it hard to believe he missed that badly. It's funny because once he hit Pedroia he threw nothing but strikes. I think there was intent, which is dumb up by 9 runs what's the point? Either way I doubt the Sox will think it's over, especially Beckett pitching tomorrow. A Yankee player is going to hit the dirt this weekend. Hopefully the umps don't issue warnings before the game and let the players take care of things.

    Good win!

It happened twice this week in blow out games with the Dodgers/Brewers and Mets/Cardinals. Sometimes players don't think.

yeah but in the brewers game, the brewers hit a player of the dodgers first, in this case, the red sox hit no one. I mean what reason would there be to hit the guy? why wake up a beast in the red sox?...yeah there is a yankee-red sox rivalry, but thats more with the fans then the players, not all the players hate each other, i mean Jeter and pedroia are friends

You do know that more Sox players have been hit than Yankees this year right and by a wide margin right? I'm not complaining by any means, I think sending messages are part of the game but pitchers should stay away from the head. Drill someone from the numbers down.

I don't know you have to ask him. What reason was there for Nelson Figuera to hit Pujols the other day when the Mets were up by like 5 or 6 to 0. It does happen. I do think there was intent involved again just don't throw at a guy's head, especially 2 times in the same at bat.

I dont know the stats of who's been hit more, over this season, last season, or entire rivalry history. I would be interested in the details if you have them.

Historically, Sox vs. Yanks, its happens both ways...some intentional some not. Not every HBP is head hunting or thrown on purpose - thrown inside clearly, but not everyone that gets away equals an ahole move on the pitchers part. (Unless you were like me, and whenever my teammates were pitching and couldnt throw strikes I screamed at them to "throw a f-in strike already" from centerfield; as much as I would from the ondeck circle to the opponents we were facing - yes I was hit by pitch in my next at bat quite a few times, but someone has to take one for the team :wink2:)

We had crappy control, and Dustin is not the poster child of who needs to be targeted to send a message.

I would say, lets leave it up to Bob Watson, but some alien must have abducted the real BW, cause whoever is filing his suit isnt the same guy, passing over suspensions on Garza, Mota, Torre, and even Fielder (who I find no fault with)...but I would have wagered the real BW would have fined each of them and suspended each of them.

What has gotten into this guy lately passing over these purpose pitches??

Anyway, the first wild pitch was level with the head, but a good foot or more over the catchers shoulder more than Dustin's noggin. And the one that hit him, hit him in the shoulder....too close for comfort compared to letters to thighs (agree never the head, and never the knees) but still not the head, even though it was close.

I still say, we have crappy arms with crappy control last night....I hope it gets under control, but not phased that 1 guy got hit.

I had the stat after the last series. I believe the Sox hitters were hit something like 7 to 2 this year or something close to that. It might even be in the Red Sox thread because I made a joke about Girardi complaining that Penny had hit Arod in the 1st inning and wanted MLB to investigate him. Since Pedro left the hit batter ratio went down a lot.

Agreed on Watson, he's a fool. I don't understand how he lets Garza get away with admit he hit someone on purpose and he gets nothing. Yet the Cardinal pitcher who threw at Wright's head gets 3 games. Doesn't make sense.

I understand the pitchers had crappy control but 2 pitches in the same at bat were too close for me to call it just losing control. But whatever.

I will say this though, whether it was simply missed location or lack of control the Yankees are starting to get a rep for throwing at guys especially this year. If I were Jeter, Arod or Teixeira; I'd tell Joba and Burnett to knock it off because those guys are going to eat a fastball soon. Because the last thing any team wants is a bean war that results in broken bones.

Greatest game of the year for the yankees, no doubt about it, the biggest win for them! worst thing that can happen is the sox win the next two and we are back to the same situation before this series...

Agreed. Damon scares the absolute crap out of me. I don't like facing him at all, especially in Yankee Stadium. You could tell he was pissed he had to bunt there.

Anyway good game guys. I'd rather obviously lose a well played game than a blow out like Thursday night. Excuse me while I pour gasoline on myself and light a match.

Regarding HPB stats......used Baseball Reference for both staffs for the '01-last nights game stats...

    http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/split.cgi?t=p&team=NYY&year=2009

    http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/split.cgi?t=p&team=BOS&year=2009

sorry, tried to figure out how the Table feature works but couldnt get it to work....

Year : Yanks Bats HBP from Sox - Sox Bats HPB fromYanks
    09 4 to 10
    08 14 to 9
    07 9 to 9
    06 7 to 6
    05 10 to 6
    04 18 to 15
    03 11 to 7
    02 14 to 5
    01 9 to 6
    Total: 96 to 73

So Yanks batters have been hit 96 times, and Sox batters 73 times this Century. And so far in 2009 (thru last nights game) thiis is the first time this decade that Yanks arms have hit more Sox batters (4 to 10).

Wow, didnt think it was possible, but 4-8 is a whole lot sweeter than the 0-8 before this series. And the best record in baseball to boot....and of course 6.5 game lead.

best series of the season for yankee fans, i mean the way our pitching played this weekend was AMAZING, i mean to hold to red sox scoreless 30+ innings is amazing. Another great thing was Arod hitting two clutch homeruns for us, idc what anyone says about Arod, he has been clutch this year... what a team we have hear!

Not to nitpick, but you quoted this DECADE. Not Century. I'd be willing to bet there have been a WHOLE lot more batters hit in this century. ;)
