it all begins in the trenches & Miami is still undecided on offensive line starters. I think, although there is no news of it, Jake Scott has to be still under consideration: Long-Scott-Pouney-Iconito_Murtha/Martin if we do not pick up Jake Scott Long- Incognito-Pouncey-Murtha-Martin ( if can can make a smooth transition to RT) if not Long- Incognito-Pouncey-Hicks/Jerry-Murtha
We have less then a week to see if Jerry lost any weight or enough to make the coaches happy. If not ? he will be cut. IMO right now it looks something in this order LONG INCOGNITO POUNCEY HICKS MARTIN/MURTHA
By next year (and even perhaps the end of this year) I wouldn't rule us out being a top 7 overall line in the league.
There are only a very select few teams that have the same offensive line in place from season to season. Can you name the NFL teams that did not replace any offensive lineman from year 2010 to 2011 or 2009 to 2010 ? Or for any two recent seasons for that matter. Its hard to do, have all the Olineman as a group year after year.
Here is a ling to the 2011 rushing and passing leaders ( top 10) of which, Reggie Bush was 11th and only needed 5 more yards to be a top 10 RB yardage wise. I cannot pick one team out of the top 10 passing or rushing that did not replace at least one offensive lineman in 2011,2010 or 2009. Look for yourself and IF there is a team that kept an entire Oline together in the top 10, as I said, it would be a very select few. http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/player/_/stat/passing
If our RT had even a pulse in 2011 they could have achieved that even with Hennes injury and replacing him with Moore.
I'll be happy if they can just open rushing holes and not be revolving doors to our QB, don't give a hoot who's playing or where, just get er done! I DO care that we resolve this issue FAST, so the OL has time to gel and learn each other's tendencies as soon as possible.
From LT to C is pretty much set in stone. It's the RG & RT... I think we have plenty to work with for those two spots. Interested to see how it plays out, not really all that concerned about it. I think Murtha will take a spot and play well. I expect J.Martin to pick things up quickly. Basically anything will be an improvement from last year.
To me the fact Jake Scott has been in to see the staff twice and walked out both times with no offer is a big red flag. He's hurt, and the Dolphins keep checking on the status of his injuries, and not liking what they see. This is destined to be one of those things the fans talk about a lot but the Dolphins never really act on, IMO. We'll see.
With all his accolades, the fact no NFL team has signed him gives me the heebie jeebies. You know as well as I do if a player is anywhere close as good like most people think, he is usually signed and not left to linger. I have no clue what that reason is but there is most likely real good reason Jake Scott has not been signed to somewhere in the NFL. I had heard/read that people thought he was asking for a bigtime contract. I cannot see that as truth. These days every players agent is fully aware of what team wants his client and what they are willing to pay. It would be senseless to think Scott has not signed anywhere because he is looking for a huge contract because no way in hell he does not know what his market value is.
I thought Jake Scott was overrated to be honest. A pass protection specialist guard is almost an oxymoron as things stand, but one that has trouble anchoring because he's too light in the pants? That's not pro bowl talent, IMO. Still, he's good enough for a roster. He must be hurt, IMO.
just a guess maybe they still wanna see john jerry in one preseason game before they decide he is not worth it anymore, i agree though that its still strange that no other team has signed him
The problem with this team as currently constructed is that as bad as the O-line seems, it's not even a top 3 concern as far as positions go.
I think by game 3 or 4, with the addition of Martin, this O-line is really going to look spectacular.
John Jerry is not a bad player. They just want to see John Jerry at the weight they told him to be at.
Hey CK, do you think it's safe to assume that Incognito has cut the weight that they asked him to do, considering he still has his starting spot? Or could they holding him to a different standard then Jerry (assuming Jerry lost his spot due to not losing weight)?
Jerry had an opportunity to show this new staff that he was dedicated and mature enough to get himself into shape. Instead he showed them that he is immature and nothing but a fat slob. This was another wasted draft pick and I just don't see Jerry being a member of the 2012 Dolphins. The overall line will continue to very mediocre and I think Martin will prove to be a bad selection in the second round. I just don't see him being a productive tackle in the NFL.
IMO I think its safe to say that Incognito weighed about 325 and I imagine they MAY want him around 315 to 318. Jerry on the other hand was in the 370s or close to it and they are probably asking him to report at least at 335 MAX. Believe it was mentioned Jerry was 350 plus once OTAs ended so that means, maybe, he had to lose another 15 lbs. My guess at them wanting him no more then 335 of course is just pure speculation. I do not believe they are going to look for a smaller faster offensive line like Denver had years ago. I do believe though they do not want any chubbas so in short, Incognito even at 325 is twiggy compared to Jerry at 350 and I thoroughly believe they will not put up with Jerry reporting this week anything close to 350. Taking into account that the practices will soon be full pads I can them all losing another 10 to 15 lbs so IF Jerry does report at 335 he should lose another 10 lbs quickly. LOL, now I am just flying into space with opinion, sorry.
Martin played okay against mediocre defensive linemen in college but was clearly outplayed when he went up against top defensive ends. He looked very over matched when he played against USC last season and faced first round draft pick, Nick Perry. He will be facing quality DE's every week in the NFL and I just don't see that he has the overall strength or ability to stand up to the play of the quality defensive ends in the NFL. He dropped in the draft after many teams saw had poorly he played against Perry and I tend to think that the teams who passed him to select other offensive linemen felt the same way I do about his overall ability at the next level. As far as my continual pessimism is concerned. I don't deny that I have no faith in Ireland when it comes to selecting quality players for this team. I don't see the 2012 Dolphins winning more than 5 or 6 games this coming season. I also see them finishing in last in the AFC East and ending up with a top five selection in the 2013 draft. I just hope that Ireland is still not the GM of the Dolphins when the 2013 draft comes around. The Dolphins and Ireland have 16 weeks to prove me wrong. I hope they do.
yeah i guess because he didn´t look good against one player in one game (who turned out to be a 1st round draft pick) , some teams took him of their draft boards....yikes, you are pretty harsh on our team only to put in the rescue card at the end to jump on the bandwagon if they somehow surprise ?....we don´t need fairweather fans like that
Would you please just make that bold part your sig, that way you don't have to type it every time you post.
agreed, i think that left side has some real good potential and we can´t be any worse than last year on the right side
Hmm, I don't know if the turnstile analogy fits. Turnstiles have the capability of holding someone up, at least momentarily.
CK had a pretty solid write-up after he signed: http://www.thephins.com/forums/show...ing-Physical&p=1726990&viewfull=1#post1726990
Wouldn't it be a good idea to at least have ONE training camp practice before whining about how the offensive line will be constructed? We have three positions set in stone (LT, LG, C) and two positions with competition, this is a tragedy? It's probably the same story in 20 other cities. BTW...you can't be "undecided & decisive" at the same time.
