I just saw on ESPN that Seattle is waiting to interview Dorsey...... Not sure what Ken views as a better job
But does he want to work with the “run first” mentality of Pete Carroll? Working with a young qb and a bunch of shiny new toys (from the draft) might be more intriguing.
Congrats Eric Studesville, looks like you are Flo's pick to me. I have a a half wild thought hey may be trying to get Fitzmagic in the mix somehow. Be the QB coach or passing game coordinator. Let Studs be offensive coordinator and call plays.
Yeah it was kind of a weird situation for awhile, but it seems the did finally officially pull the trigger. I wouldn't really be upset at promoting Studes ... but why on earth is this process so drawn out if he's the guy? It's a weird and not good look imo. Makes it seem very much like we got rejected multiple times and are doing this out of desperation. Overall love what Flores has done so far, but he needs to get a better handle on OCs and the offense. Not sure if waiting weeks to promote an internal candidate inspires confidence.
I think they are giving Godsey and/or Studs a real look at the OC position at the senior bowl. See how they approach gameplanning and play calling. I bit of on the job interviews. Dont know who will be the OC for the sr bowl but it could make sense.
I don't think either Godsey or Studesville are under serious consideration, and this is a courteous gesture. They shouldn't need a try-out to figure it out. You know who the guys are better than any potential external candidate. The Senior Bowl really isn't a good avenue for a try-out either. It isn't an opportunity for gameplanning or play-calling, you're running a generic offense to showcase the players in the best possible light for scouting purposes. They're doing this so they don't have to admit or display that they thought either guy was their 3rd or worst option, and I think they've got an agreement in place that they're either going to announce after the Senior Bowl or after the guy they're hiring has played the Super Bowl.
The Dolphins’ long offensive coordinator search has resulted in two assistants getting promoted to share the job. Dolphins head coach Brian Flores has promoted running backs coach Eric Studesville and quarterbacks coach George Godsey to the titles of co-offensive coordinators, according to multiple reports. There’s no word yet on which one of them will call the plays. The most important job for the co-offensive coordinators will be developing an offense around Tua Tagovailoa, the 2020 first-round pick who had a so-so year as a rookie quarterback. The Dolphins have made clear that they believe in Tagovailoa as their franchise quarterback of the future, and now we’ll see if there’s an offense in Miami that Tagovailoa can thrive in.
I find this his 1st strange move. What I've found is that if 2 people are in charge - no one is in charge.
This feels like they punted. I guess we will see how it works out but it I'm honestly not real impressed. I know guys have to start somewhere in the coaching tree before they get the chance to be a Coordinator but they couldn't decide between these two? Like I said, feels like a punt.
I like this move.... Why? Because I trust Flores completely. I suspect strongly that both of these coaches have a strong repore with Flores and with Tua. Other top Offensive coordinators are not going to leave their jobs on other teams and come here... So you either luck out when a head coach gets fired and that head coach is willing to accept a demotion or you promote a lower level coach. If you are going to take a chance on lower level coaches... You might as well go with the ones you know and trust. Pick the ones you know you can work with...The ones you know your franchise QB can work with. It will be interesting to see who calls the plays... But the offensive line has made major improvements in one year... Some of that is due to drafting Hunt Kindley and Jackson... The running game is going to be improved next year simply because those kids will mature and continue to improve. Now we need to focus on getting a Wide receiver in free agency and then add another in the draft ( Along with a running back upgrade... Give Tua and the offense the weapons they need to thrive. We cannot have Tua throwing the ball to Gator, Hurns, Hollins, and Ford.... That is pathetic... We have to get those guys off of this football team. We all want Tua to be the next Russel Wilson or Pat Mahomes. But They do not have to throw the football to Hollins, Hurns, Gator, or ford.... None of those players even make the roster of the Chiefs or Seahawks.
If it works, it works, but splitting leadership positions is rarely a good idea. Reminds me of when Ross had the GM and HC report directly to him. This will either need incredible chemistry between the two, or very well-defined roles they're happy in... or both.
I didn't think they could do as bad as hiring Chan Gailey but the Dolphins always surprise me. I am done with this coaching staff.
I'm in agreement with the 'If you have TWO offensive coordinators, you have NONE.' school of thought. It feels like an experiment, but I guess we can hope it somehow works out? Dealing with the OC spot has been the one big struggle I've seen from Flores; we can't keep changing out systems every year and expect the QB and other players to thrive.
Meh. I don't understand why it took this long to hire from within. It really makes it look like we settled - and then to make them "co-coordinators" instead of choosing one ... as was said already, it looks like we punted. I'm not really on board with this at all, and while I trust Flores in general, going from O'Shea to Gailey to now this is not a great look.
My guess is they had an opportunity to do a trial run with the Senior bowl. Why waste the opportunity?
I think that doesn't speak as well as some may assume. If you are so uncertain of someone's ability to hold the position that the senior bowl is required to evaluate them rather than the player talents, I don't think that speaks highly.
You know, it could have been a test run to see if it could work. Everyone could point to this team or that team having done it but with an actual test run at the senior bowl must’ve given Flores enough confidence to pull the trigger. For those in the “if you have two you have none”, there is another thought process...with two you have two sets of eyes on the field seeing twice as much. Not sure if this will work but just pointing out thoughts.
You've had two years to evaluate these dude's potential chops. Letting an all-star game with generic playcalling weeks after the season be a deciding factor seems harebrained to me. The fact that they didn't promote quickly and interviewed multiple other people just makes it seem like we were left standing when the music stopped. That's not to say it won't work out, but for me the optics aren't good at all, and it's not like Flores has shown great ability to pick OC's to this point.
Sorry man, you aren't making any sense to me. Not letting an all-star game with generic playcalling weeks after the season is a deciding factor seems stupid to me. Why not give people on the job skill evaluations? Also, F optics. Worrying about optics got us Gase over Dan Campbell. It is a terrible way to run a football team.
You can have your opinion. In my view, this reeks of not getting our first choice. Or second. Or third. I could be wrong. I hope I am, but this is not a confidence inspiring move to me, and pretending that a college all-star game was a vital tool in deciding who our next OC should be is insane to me. Glad you have more confidence. I do hope that S and G will be much better at crafting Tua-centric gameplans than Gailey.
