I'm not giving up on the season, just some suggestions for next year. Draft Justin Hunter in next year's draft; AJ Green prototype with more speed BUT has a case of the dropsies . Should also look for a RB, OG, CB, LB, SS, and maybe a DE if Shelby and OV aren't progressing. Some possible draftees clips: WR Justin Hunter 1st rounder http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRcPreQbzRw LB Gerald Hodges 3rd-4th rounder https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mPSDzQ9Yic OUCH! CB Kyle Fuller 3rd-4th rounder RB Stepfan Taylor 2nd rounder https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8jwc3NNSZ8 entire game for USC but watch at :58 and notice how he blocks. SS Shawn Williams/Bacarri Rambo 2nd-3rd rounder http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8cdUwCXSIs DE John Simon 2nd-3rd rounder http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPAWU1Oc1iw Free agency is going to have to play a role in filling some holes also. Does anyone know who Miami would be interested in otherwise than Bowe?
Thank you for the post. ThePhins has a Draft Forum you might want to look into or post draft-related stuff in considering it's still November.
I like Shawn Willams and Baccari Rambo. I like Williams more. That was the best video you posted. The other videos are garbage IMO. No offense, a couple of the were just one play, definitely not enough for judgement. The DE video wasn't just about the DE, many plays in that video was good offensive plays with the offense scoring. And I never watched the RB video. I don't see the need to draft another RB, we already have Reggie and 2 draft picks invested in DT and LM. But I am grateful for your post because I don't watch college football and I had no idea who Williams and Rambo were, I like both of them. I hope we can snatch up Williams. Our secondary would immediately be better. We still need to draft a CB as well. I hate to say this with so much football left in this season, but I can't wait to see who all we draft! I was hoping for a bunch of "sexy" picks (no I'm not gay), but i want a few playmakers on offense and defense. Unfortunately, it looks like it would be wise to use 1 or 2 draft picks on our O-line again. Specially at guard. I hope our right tackle progresses more this year. And we have no idea about the fate of Jake Long. It's depressing, so I'll shut up.
I hope we draft a WR, TE, G, DE, S and CB in no particular order. As long as we address those positions in the draft and/or free agency, I'll be happy and just hope they all pan out. I wouldn't mind doubling down on a couple of those positions in the draft and/or free agency.
Here is my dream scenario: 1.) CB Johnathan Banks 2a.) WR DeAndre Hopkins (I would do everything in my power to get him with our second pick, he is a stud. In my dream scenario I am projecting that we trade pick 3b to move up and select him) 2b.) WR Terrance Williams, DE Cornellius Carradine 3a.) OT Lane Johnson or another OT or OG
My dream scenario = 1. Jonathan Banks CB 2A. James Gayle DE 2B. Stedman Bailey WR 3A. Shayne Skov MLB 3B. Marquess Wilson WR 4. Jordan Reed TE With Jairus Byrd or Kenny Phillips in FA.
At this point..I'm looking at Stanford's roster very closely...there's three players of interest on that team that seem to have the makeup of what we need here, and were reqruited and coached by a very special coach..Thomas..Taylor..Skov.. Would take Allen over hunter.. Depends on where we select but if its out of,the top 10 I might want to trade down, and go after Tavon Austin and Tyler Eifert combo, and try to recreate the Odrick/Misi scenario. Dream scenario at this point.. 1) Tavon Austin Late first 1st, early 2) Tyler Eifert 2) Shane Skov. 2) Chase Thomas 3) James Gayle 3) Stepfan Taylor You said dream..
Randy Moss didn't have any muscle nor does AJ Green and both are once-in-a-lifetime players, I think Justin Hunter is the same. I actually like Keenan Allen, my intial projection, but I'm taking a liking to Hunter now.
The DE video wasn't supposed to focus on the scoring, but the player. Simon was consistently beating Wisconsin's offensive lineman (known to have one of the better O-Lines in the country) and had two sacks and a bunch of TFLs at 6'2! I also like Williams better than Rambo. We are most likely going to need a RB because I think Reggie is going to leave in free agency. DT gets carries here and there but has shown enough that he isn't a #1 back. The jury is still out on Miller though I would like to see him get more carries. A third year one-cut #2 back and second year back who didn't play much isn't ideal going into the 2013 season. We HAVE to draft a guard and tackle but not in the first round.
I was thinking more realistic than dream scenario. Dream scenario would be: 1. Jonathan Banks CB 2. Stedman Bailey WR 2a. Shawn Williams SS 3. Gerald Hodges LB BEAST! 3a. Gabe Jackson OG could go in the second 4. James Gayle/Devin Taylor DE 5. Aaron Mellette/Markus Wheaton WR 6. James Hurst OT 7. RB or BPA or 1. Justin Hunter WR 2. Jordan Poyer CB or Stepfan Taylor RB 2a. Shawn Williams SS 3. Gabe Jackson OG 3a. John Simon DE 4. Jonathan Bostic LB 5. John Boyett FS or Travis Howard CB 6. James Hurst OT 7. Anthony "Amp" McCloud DT
I really don't see the need for a SS, especially with Jones coming on so strong as of late. If we take a safety its a FS.
Where did you get that from? Moss and Green were and indeed are strong and gunned up. AJ Green is a very physical WR and so was Moss as a rookie. His game was far more than just speed.
Not me. From what we know about Ireland, if a WR represents the best value (is highest on his board), then that WR will likely be the pick IMO. However, if there are multiple players of equal value at our pick, then yes, I could see him opting for a pass rusher or DB over WR considering we have 2 2nds and 2 3rds.
Just don't see it on any level. Any. Philbin has been a part of a team that has had huge success with wideouts in the second and third rounds. I'd be fully expecting Greg Jennings to come in as a free agent if, as expected, he's allowed to walk. That immediately knocks down the need. I think they'd look in round two for a player who can have an impact the way Jennings did in usurping Driver as the #1 WR and then Cobb usurping Jennings. I think they'll load up on corners - again, look at the Packers secondary.....Woodson, Sam Shields, Tramon Williams, Casey Hayward, Davon House, Burnett, MD Jennings, Jerron McMillian.....all these guys are making plays. Philbin knows all of them beyond Casey H and McMillian. And they'll load up on rush ends. I could easily see them take two corners, two ends and a WR. Or a TE. Or two corners, a guard, a WR and a pure speed rush end. But if that WR comes in R1, I'll be staggered.
Don't get me wrong, I share all your sentiments. What you said makes perfect sense. However, if we're unable to bring in a quality WR in FA, I don't see Ireland passing on a WR in the 1st if that WR unequivocally represents the most value. I agree, I could definitely see 2 DBs, 1 pass rusher, 1 WR, and then either G or TE with the first 5 (I'd prefer Jordan Reed if he's available in the 3rd and then wait till the 4th for a guard). I'd be thrilled to land Xavier Rhodes, Matt Elam, and Ziggy Ansah with our 1st 3 picks, even if it meant trading back for Rhodes and then trading up for Elam or Ansah.
Put it this way, there's not the same value on the WR position that there is on other spots in the area we will likely be picking - 6-12.
If we end up picking in the top 12, then yeah, I agree, a receiver most likely wont represent the greatest value.
