As many of you know, for years, the Dolphins equipment manager would not let any player wear #39 in honor of Larry Csonka. His jersey number was not "officially" retired until a few years ago, but for 25 years or so, it was "unofficially" retired.

I think the Dolphins should do the same thing with #54 and #99. I'm not saying that their numbers should be officially retired, not yet anyway. There are only 3 Dolphin numbers retired (12, 13, & 39). But not giving out these numbers for at least 10 years would be a nice tribute to two guys who gave their all to this organization.

Thanks Zach. Thanks JT. You both will be missed!

Its kind of hard not to remember what Jason Taylor meant to the Dolphins for many years. Whatever the circumstances for his departure can't take away from what he did while he was wearing a Dolphin uniform. For several years he was one of the few bright spots we as Miami Dolphin fans could enjoy. No #99 reaking havoc on opposing QBs and being one of the league leaders in sacks could always be counted on even if we couldn't count on anything else.
Miami got a great trade, but #99 and #54 will be missed.

Im fot it. Definitely Zach Thomas' jersey.

I'm not mad at JT for playing the team, the same way the team would have eventually played him. Just a business guys. The guy just wanted to go out on a high note. As obnoxious as he is, I can't blame the guy.

    So long JT.

I don't think you'll see those numbers on the playing field again, both deserve to be retired for their accomplishments in a Dolphins uni.

Id love to see it happen for both of them but i have a feeling it will only happen for one. I wouldnt even be able to begin to decide which one deserves it more.

Bah...humbug...who cares at this point....Their gone now...while it'll be funny seeing anyone else wearing those numbers at first it really doesn't matter much...Taylor and Thomas were great players for us, but not in the league of 12, 13, or 39...lets not get too sentimental...

    I think there shouldn't be a 54 or a 99 for at least 3 years

It's a shame how J.T. final off-season in Miami panned out, but the guy did a lot for this organization. I'm also happy both Thomas and Taylor got traded too the N.F.C.

It's going to be very weird seeing Taylor in a Redskins uniform this year. It will be hard to see Zach in a Cowboys uni as well.

The Jets havn't assigned #28 or #80 since Curtis Martin and Wayne Chrebet left the team following the 2005 season. Hopefully one day their numbers will be retired, but the Jets had their chance to do so last season when they held special Halftime Ceremonies for them. Hopefully there's a change of heart and 28 and 80 join 12, 13 and 73.

And yes I do agree with no Dolphin wearing 54 or 99 for a long, long time. 54 should definitely be retired and 99 should be highly considered.

I dont think anyone say it much better than that. The highlights, and their stats tell the story. We should retire both of those numbers.

So what happens in 200 years when not enough numbers are available due to "retirements." Go into the 100s? Break them out again? Ive always wondered this lol :)
