The Miami Dolphins have played games on each of the last six Sundays. Coaches and players alike have reported to team HQ to meet, get treatment, and review film each subsequent Monday — win or lose.

That means the extra day off many teams award their players after a win — known commonly as “Victory Mondays” — doesn’t exist (at least not at this stage in the season). Mike McDaniel explained why Monday — after the Dolphins won for the fifth time in six weeks.

Win or Lose, Mondays Are Work Days for Miami Dolphins
“Well, I think you hear me say it’s putting your money where your mouth is when you talk about the development of a team during the season and getting better,” McDaniel said. “You hope that players — you create an atmosphere where it’s more not about avoiding the building for a day, or not doing that, and making sure that we’re getting better.”

“That game tape, there’s nothing more valuable. I think that prioritizing that, Victory Mondays end up meaning that you take some of those learning lessons and put them on the day that you’re starting the game plan for the other opponent,” he continued.

“We do it at times when we’re robbed of sleep, and guys need some time to sleep in, but outside of that, it’s too valuable of a teaching tool in our minds and really my mind, that you want to get better from so your best football is at the end of the year.”

Certainly, McDaniel is punching all the right buttons early in this 2023 season, so why mess with success? The Dolphins have won their three home games by a combined 86 points, and even the defense seems to have turned a corner.

    But here’s a prediction:

If the Dolphins win in Week 7 against the Philadelphia Eagles … on the road … in a prime-time game … the players will get their first Victory Monday of the year.

“I’m really excited about this one,” Dolphins defensive tackle Christian Wilkins said. “You hear so much about the Philly fans, the atmosphere, all that good stuff. It’s going to be an exciting game and things like that, so I’m excited about this one. They are a really good team. They do a lot of really good things. This is kind of what you want. It’s going to be great football weather, football atmosphere, just all that good stuff kind of building up until Sunday night. I’m looking forward to it.”

Spread just got smaller for the Philly game. Most sites have it as -2 for Philly now instead of -2.5. More people thinking the Dolphins will win! Me included. 6-1 coming up!

It will be that Hurts isn't Hurts right now. Their defense is banged up or their offensive line is banged up.

They are definitely feeling the loss of both coordinators. Also integrating lots of young players on defense and some new folks on offense as well. The talent base is still there and they will be formidable and easily capable of winning any game they play in ... but they are gettable.

This is a big test of our physicality imo. They are big and will try and just bully you on the lines. They are not dissimilar to Buffalo in that way. We need both our units to stand up, take the punch and punch back.

Miami is also banged up. You could argue 4 of our 10 best players are injured right now.

This is the first time this year I'm not confident of a win. I was confident we could score enough in Buffalo to win but that game really threw doubts into my mind. I get the Eichenberg basically destroyed the whole offensive gameplan by himself and we should have scored at least 30 if not chasing the game but the way the defence played, oof.

I guess I need to see our defence hold a top 10 offence to under 30 points before I get that confidence back. I just think the lack of pressure from our front four on their own against that Eagles OL might be our undoing. Fangio needs to adjust quicker and start blitzing earlier imho, we can't let them score on their first 3 possessions like the Bills.

Normally with running quarterbacks, the secret to defeating them is keeping them in the pocket. Don’t let them get outside the pocket for them to extend plays or take off for a big run. With Jalen Hurts however, he has the league’s worst success rate OUTSIDE of the pocket.

Hurts is 7th in scrambling rate but only only 26th in EPA per scramble so far this season. So how do we exploit this apparent weakness?

Wilkins and Sieler need to have a beast of a game. They need to cause the pocket to collapse forcing Hurts outside with AVG and Chubb ready to pounce on him. Howard and Kohou need to stick their receivers like flies on wallpaper. If we can do that, Philly’s offense won’t be that potent.

What the real problem is going to be is playing in Philadelphia itself…and the battle against the officials as well. I truly expect quite a few suspect calls made against us.
