Not for nothing Steve, but these guys have said we should expect this or that on a certain day and what have you for a bit now.........until I see they actually have voted I'm just meh. Its easier than being disappointed etc.
I can believe it. Adam Schefter is supposedly also reporting that free agency and training camps will start Wednesday.
I agree with you, it's been like crying "wolf". I'm just saying what the ticket is saying....... Owners will open the gates Wed so players can come in and recertify the union and FA can start next Sat. Again, that's coming from ESPN's Breaking News ticker per Clayton and Mort.
I just want to know when teams are allowed to start talking to UDFAs and UFAs, etc...and then when they're allowed to sign them.
I'd guess that's for the full-fledged FA. I would assume that teams get a 3 day period to come to terms (or not) with their own FAs first.
Teams are starting to gear for free agency, feeling out their contact lists and whatnot, aiming for things to start early this week (Tuesday-ish). I can confirm as much.
Could be? The ticker didn't say "what type" of FA. It did mention that the vote Monday is for the 10 year deal, didn't mention anything about the 7 year opt out that the players want.
It's really hard to tell how FA will play out this year. I could see a lot of "take it or leave it and we look elsewhere" offers with teams (especially ones with new coordinators and schemes) trying to get into season sync as soon as possible. Not saying it will happen that way but I could definitely see a few frantic days of signings with less of the usual rumor mongering and wining and dining.
The only great point that tool would have is if he wrote an article on 'the undeniable reasons why mike florio is a douchebag'.
Mike, Mike, and Mike (Ditka) call the west coast game. As for this report… whatever. Mort said the players would vote on Friday. Then he backed off on that. I'll believe it when this happens.
Man, if I'm an undrafted free agent, I'm beyond pissed at this added delay. Just less of a chance that I'll make the team and beat out a veteran.
BTW, if the league year does start on Wednesday, then free agency (the full version, not just the original teams negotiating with their players) also starts on Wednesday.
Its not just Mort, it's also Clayton reporting this, CK mention Adam S. is also reporting this. As far as Mike and Mike, is that confirmed?
Being a douchebag doesn't prevent him from having a point - which, in this case, he does. Point in case: I think I even remember Des having a point.
League doesn't trust the NFLPA* to recertify when they say they are going to... handing in cards when they arrive at team facilities is cutting it awefully close.
Why's that a given? Unless there's some US labor law I'm not aware of, what's to stop the league and the players from agreeing to a 3 day period in which they may only negotiate with their own FAs and possibly undrafted free agents? Otherwise, it'd be mayhem for the poor GMs and a downright nightmare for teams with lots of FAs.
Lets not fool ourselves... the original teams already know where they stand on their own free agents. Lets also seperate US labor law from the NFL's current situation. This is a unique situation.
Yeah, but if they stand at "we'd like to re-sign the dude", then it's going to be pretty tough doing that while you also have to sign FAs from other teams and all the rookie FAs you'd like. Especially considering that everyone will want their players in camp ASAP. It'd make a lot of sense to allow the teams a short period of time to re-sign their own players. Otherwise it'll make for a fun free agency, but I'd guess the GMs would have to ride the speed or coke train pretty hard.
Confirmed? They've done the west coast game every year since ESPN began this MNF doubleheader stuff. I don't know why you're worried about this.
Well, if everything goes down on Monday like they are saying it could, you've got a short two day period to discuss deals with your own free agents. Remember, under the owners deal that they ratified on Thursday, the original teams could agree in principle to a new contract with their own free agent, but the actual signing doesn't happen until that new league year would begin (on Wednesday). You've still got an issue of trust with that free agent not going on the "open market" instead of physically signing. How many times have we as Dolfans seen our team agree in principle with a free agent and then that free agent taking that deal back to his original team? John Randle and Ryan Clark spring to mind. NFLN is showing a new tentative schedule with the league still starting on Wednesday and free agency also starting on Wednesday.
Everything that ESPN touches sucks. I just don't know where you got the idea that M&M&M were in line to call our game. They always call the west coast game of these season-opening doubleheaders.
Unless the Dolphins open on the west coast on a Monday night, then we are never getting M&M&M to call one of our games. Therefore, we must have excellent luck.
