NFL Network Radio might have just said it best regarding Ireland...

And how do you know Philbin didn't push hard to sign him? How do you know that Phiblin didn't think he couldn't get it done?
Flynn's own father said that him and Philbin talked several times over the week leading up to his visit in Miami and that both were excited about him coming down there.
Philbin can push all he wants for the guy. Flynn can sell himself all he wants. However, Ireland is the one who makes out the contracts....not Philbin. Ireland is the one who makes the offer...not Philbin. All Philbin can do is tell Ireland to do whatever it takes to get Flynn, who by all accounts is who Philbin wanted. Yet Ireland low balled Flynn. How do you think Philbin thought about that?

So u think Philban had no idea on a contract number to negotiate from to offer Flynn before the meeting?

Nope nothing wrong with the way he does business at all. You cannot expect anything more from an organization that is about to be lower then pond scum for the next few years.
what is that based on? I mean do you realize the media is blaming the Fins current management for stuff that happened a couple admins ago? doesnt that seem at least a little stupid to you?

Seems like you're making up the facts as you go along.

Bull****.
Unless you have transcripts of all these conversations with him, that you've used to come up with such a definitive conclusion......
Er, he appologized publically to Bryant when we played Dallas in the pre season last year. Definitive conclusion ? Well, ask all the players Miami has to beat away from its door every morning that want to play here. Its not bull, its reality. You dig up the transripts pal, Ireland spoke about this several times. He was questioned about it several times and never , not once, denied it. Keep sticking up for the clown.

OK, let just throw the BS flag here. Flynn didnt sign with the Fins because the Fins didnt offer him as much money as Seattle. That is what it came down to. All this other BS about Ireland is jus that BS. The media for whatever reason has latched on with Miami and their inability to land big names. They never look at the reasons behind why those people chose not to come to Miami. Harbaugh didnt come here because he wanted to stay on the west coast. Manning was a money thing in that the Fins didnt have the money under the cap to sign him. Flynn came down to the Fins thinking he was worth a certain number while Flynn thought he was worth more. What it came down to was that the Fins chose not to give him more money. Fisher wanted total control, that is a model that rarely works in the NFL and the Fins were not willing to give him that. Good decision by the Fins.
Hell, there was even a media report that Parcell's left because of the management (Ireland and co). The media forgot to mention that Parcells brought Ireland here and was/is his friend... and for that matter that Parcells is a boob.
Long story short, there is nothing wrong with the way Ireland does business. Players are going to choose to come or not come to miami based on the $$$$$ that they get first and foremost.NOW, if we want to talk about why Miami's cap situation is so crappy considering the player they have under contract... well, different topic.
Look at Manning and Denver, Miami is a bad place and he didn't feel comfortable with the situation.
Define situation. 1) no cap room 2) patriots 3) oops Patriots again 4) Jest best CB in the league 4) again best CB in the league.
Denver well what team in that division scares you, as a matter of fact if you were 34 and had maybe 3 years where would you choose to play.
Flynn a 2nd string QB you get paid 4 million not 8.
If the Dolphin team could go to any other division where do you think you would move to.
I don't get the hatred for the Fins but it's Lacanfora what about the other 4 teams that didn't get Manning, the owner not a "football guy" offers life time job the same idiot that told his HC to play the QB he chose and when it didn't work he fire the HC
Manning didn't come to Miami because Miami couldn't give him $90 mil. If Manning wanted another ring he would have went to the 9ers.

What am I making up?
MIAMI - The Dolphins intensified their courtship of Matt Flynn on Saturday, hosting the free agent quarterback for a 5 1/2-hour visit at team headquarters. Now they hope to close the deal.
"He’s excited to be down there," his father, Alvin Flynn, said by phone Saturday, before Flynn met with Miami. "He is very fond of Joe Philbin. He has warm feelings for him."
Alvin Flynn said "with the familiarity" with Philbin, "there’s a sense of comfort" for Flynn. Matt Flynn and Philbin spoke several times last week, Alvin Flynn said.
Philbin and Carroll both run West Coast offenses, but there are differences. Philbin’s offense is expected to be very similar to the one used in Green Bay.
"Matt could run that offense in his sleep," his father said.

I'm sorry, but that makes little sense to me. Players have very little interaction with the GM after they are acquired. The question is, how does he feel about the coaches. And considering he's been coached by Philbin and Philbin is universally loved by seemingly everyone who's ever met the guy judging by the outpour of positive things so many people have said about him, I doubt that was an issue. The Seahawks offered him more money. That's the simple reality.
Are you under the impression that FLynn was actually acquired by the Dolphins? Do you think Ireland hid in his closet so Flynn wouldn't meet him when he was here for a visit?
All reports in the off season from Flynn, Rodgers, Flynn's dad, etc...are he and Philbin have a great relationship.
"CANEPHINS wrote:

None of that means Philbin pushed for him. No one of that means they were going to hand him the starting job. None of the means they were willing to pay him more than he got.
By talking what his father said and assuming the only reason Flynn didn't sign here was because Ireland is an *******, is making stuff up.

I was in my best friend's wedding. I cleaned him up after his bachleor party. I would kill or die for him and his family.
I'm not going to sign him to a large contract to do something I'm not sure he can do.
This thread is so laughable.
What a huge bunch of total bull****.
The gullibility of the Dolphin fan base has reached an all time high.
If you believe all this I have a great piece of swampland down in Florida for sale...... :wink2:

And assuming Philbin didn't push for him is making **** up.

No it isn't.
How do you know how hard he pushed for him or if he even did?
"CANEPHINS wrote:

A beer across the street is now keeping players from signing in Miami. You actually believe this drivel.....
I still blame it on Ireland inventing egg farts.

Because Cane and the rest of the Ireland witchhunt clan are in on every meeting with every player in the Dolphin building.
Come on FD everyone knows that.

they were talking about Flynn signing with Seattle and got into a discussion about John Schnieder the Seahawks GM. They said his approach is that ever contract is signed over a beer. He takes the player, they go across the street, have a beer, shoot the shiznit, and then sign the deal. Laid back, approachable, and players can relate to him.
They then turned the conversation to Miami and said, on the other side of the scale you have someone like Jeff Ireland. He is Mr. Serious, don't smile much, doesn't give you the feel goods.
Basically they said a lot of times when signing a player it comes down to the small things, and just having a beer with the guy is one of those small things that goes a long way.
Goes back to what I said about Flynn not signing because of a low ball offer. That wasn't it at all. He didn't sign because he wasn't comfortable here. It wasn't because of anything else. He met Schneider...hung out with him and Pete Carroll (who is an experienced recruiter and shmoozer). He then leaves Seattle and comes down to Miami where he is now with Mr. Stuffy Pants (Ireland) and Philbin who should have a good relationship with Flynn. Flynn leaves, thinks about it and then decides he likes the SITUATION in Seattle better than he liked in Miami. Point blank. Who does that fall on? Ireland and his attitude.
Doing the small things now could help change perception, but a zebra can't change their stripes. Go grab a beer is not the type of guy Ireland is and he will never be that guy. Doing the small things is what it will take to change what players (and agents) believe about him, about the organization, and help right this ship.
Honestly...the only way this gets righted it by getting rid of Ireland, for starters.
I wouldn't feel comfortable too with fewer zeros on my paycheck, it's great because you say something contrived in order to justify getting a worse offer haha.

No one said yes he did or didnt that is the point ... Look at the bigger picture if possible
The Big MIA  !
It isn't a witch hunt. It is how it is.
They knew going in that they wouldn't offer him Kevin Kolb type money, for good reason. Didn't matter how much Philbin pushed for him, the money they were going to offer is the money they were going to offer. Now another GM might think....hmmm, if my coach is pushing so and so hard for a guy....maybe we offer him a little more to see if he comes. OR, maybe Philbin doesn't have any stroke when it comes to player decisions. Maybe Ireland is the be all end all. Either way....Philbin isn't getting across IF he pushed that hard for him.
But this isn't about Flynn and it isn't about Philbin. I feel bad for Philbin because he really had no clue what he was getting himself into. If anyone was having buyers remorse right now, it is probably Philbin. So what will he get in the end? Tebow. Yeah...I am sure you are thrilled about that one. But that is a deal YOUR GM will make.
