NFL Live: Team to beat in AFC East
20 replies
Merrill Hoge - Miami Dolphins
Michael Smith - New England Patriots (Who would have guessed that?)
Trent Dilfer - New York Jets
Merrill Hodge: Dolphins. Reason: Our defense is nasty, Chad Pennington is playing great, smart football, and we have a good running game. Says our best games of football are still ahead of us this season (as opposed to the bills who he says are on the downhill). Says he loves us.
Michael Smith: Patriots. Reason: consistent throughout the years and are maturing. Says Cassel can make plays outside the pocket, and will continue to get better, even without being able to stretch the field.
Trent Dilfer: Jets. Reason: the greatest football player ever to play (Favre) plays for them. Not because of his play, but because of his presence. Doesn't matter how he plays, because down the stretch as the pressure builds his presence will be help keep the jets together.

I thought he had around 43 the way the media acts.
When I joined these boards, I did say that Miami is my favorite team of this division.
So go win it.
ESPECIALLY Beat up those damn Patriots. AND the NY Brets. If I hear Favre's name just one more time, I may have to just jump off the bridge.
And if our Broncos don't win another game and SOON, I'll request the river is dry. :wink2:

Again, you are a wonderful, "non-Phins-fan" here, and I thank you! PLUS, I love "New York Bretts" - I admit I haven't heard that yet....

You hadn't heard the NY Brets? LOL. That's ALL they made fun of for quite awhile.
Thanks for the Kudos. I will repeat. I'm a realist of this league and respect all other teams. I was born in Cincinnati before their team even existed. I'm older than the franchise itself but do route and hope for the best with those Bengals.
Except for Da Raidahs. LOL.
I even respect some of their fans on our boards, as much as we HATE them and almost feel sorry for those fans with Al Polyester Davis in control.
I admit I haven't heard that yet....
"A man's suffering is similar to the behavior of gas. If a certain quantity of gas is pumped into an empty chamber, it will fill the chamber completely and evenly, no matter how big the chamber. Thus, suffering completely fills the human soul and conscious mind, no matter whether the suffering great or little. Therefore, the "size" of human suffering is absolutely relative." - Viktor Frankl
I still think the Bills are the team to beat

I think they are a mediocre team that looked great early in the season beating up on some basement dwellers.
I think they are decent, but pretty much everyone on that team is overrated to some degree.
I personally dont think ANY of us are the team to beat, or rather, we ALL are. Thats how close this is right now, all the way to the late 90's or early 00's when all 4 (5) of us were playoff contenders vying for a spot.
We have beaten the pats, the jets beat us, the pats beat the jets, it goes round and round. I see the Bills oddly enough as the worst of us 4.

Tell your boy Marshall to get it together. He's been killing my fantasy team lately. Might be more of Cutler's fault tho.

I think the Jets just showed us:
How average Trent Edwards is.
That their OL is having big problems opening holes for Lynch.
The play of their D is really going downhill. Losing Shobel was huge for them and their secondary is less than stellar.

Nah, the Bills have some pretty damn good players on their team. I think the reason people don't give them credit is because they are a smaller market team that hasn't had recent success and people want to see it before they believe it. I usually get stuck with the Bills game week after week and let me tell ya, they aren't a last place team IMO. They struggled last week, but so did we, they are better than that performance.

Injuries are an issue, it ruined a pretty good Bills team last year too. We'll see if they can overcome the injuries, my gut says that the talent is there.

They have a few good players, but they definately have some weaknesses as well. I went to school around Buffalo, Im not one to underestimate them without reason. They just dont scare me. I feel they managed to beat up on a few basement teams, then lately weve seen them get crushed by Zona, beatdown by us, and now by the Jets. I feel they are heading in the opposite direction as we are.
Slickj summed it up quite nicely. And yeah Schobel has hurt some, but if you cant overcome the loss of a player like that, you dont belong in the playoffs.
I just don't see the current Bills team doing so hot the rest of the way.
It may not look intimidating to us but:
NE
Cle
KC
SF
Mia
NYJ
Den
NE
I think that KC and SF should be pretty easy for them. Cleveland is a toss up bc who knows if Quinn will be their QB (I know hes starting this week but who knows).
The rest of those teams will give the Bills more problems IMO. We saw that they couldnt contain NY and I doubt they could keep up with Den if they have any kind of running game. NE is also showing that they are still capable of running a pretty nice offense and I'm assuming that'll continue to be more impressive when Jordan and Morris come back.
Either way, I think their road to the playoffs has a lot more potholes than ours.

Keep in mind that we were crushed by Arizona and beaten by the Jets.
Also, we didn't beat them down, we were lucky to win that game. Infact we played so poorly, we really had no business winning that game, they just played worse than we did.

I don't get into the game by game predictions because as we've seen anything can happen on any given Sunday. But I think all of those games are winnable for the Bills. Agree to disagree, I guess.

I hate to say it but the patsies are the team to beat in our division, until someone takes the crown they are the defending AFC and AFC East champs. You want to be the best, you got to beat the best. We did it once and if we end the season 4-2 in our division I think we make the playoffs as a WC at worst and if we can manage 5-1 we'll win the East.

I don't know where to even begin with this one.
We were supposed to light up your secondary and obviously THAT didn't happen.
Believe me, it's bothering me and all the Bronco fans as well.

Ever since pretty boy Brady went down, they are supposed to lose. They aren't. So YES, until somebody steps up to the plate, the Patsies are the team to beat in your division.
The NY Brets? This won't last. IF they make the playoffs, they will choke.
That's why these Fish need to keep winning and put one of those clowns in the TV Viewing room during playoffs.

Well he did light us up on that one monster catch and TD that got called back.
I was expecting him to get a lot more smaller catches though. It's a huge mistake if Denver only decides to use him as a deep threat.
