Rosenthall has been hating on Tannehill for a while... nothing new.

Well, he didn't say the dolphins needed a QB... just that he was in the 'Point Break' group. I guess time to shine... which we are all hoping for anyway.

What I say is, lets stick with Tannenhill for another year. I say do not draft a QB and try and get as many draft picks as possible to fix Defence. Offence is ok except maybe an olineman but we could get one as a free agent. I would draft an elite LB and then a DE then Safety or CB.

Blah. Rosenthal makes me sick. NFL.com talks him and their other writers up as "experts", but they're really just men with opinions, no more or no less than the rest of us. I'll take our next coach's word on whether or not Ryan Tannehill is a franchise quarterback.

They really are. You would think that the league's own media would be held to a higher standard, but they're more often the biggest goofballs out there. Nothing good to say about Rosenthal, and many outside observers just look at the team's record and the raw data and make their shallow opinions anyways.

DJ, I just don't see how you could honestly feel Tannehill is ranked somewhere at or after #20.

Who do you have before him?

25th? That's laughable. The biggest Tannehill hater out there couldn't find 24 QBs better than Ryan Tannehill

That's his ranking "this year". He was certainly ranked a lot higher last season. Guys have down seasons...it happens. We have to replace Jason Fox and Dallas Thomas, and re sign and commit to Lamar Miller. Build the defense in the draft, continue to improve the team. I have no doubt Tannehill will bounce back in year five. If not...then we can explore other QB options.

There are 21 QB's who have a higher QB rating than Tannehill. Then you have to look at QB's like Luck, Flacco and Matt Ryan and decide if they are having off years or if they have gotten worse.

I don't know if there are 20 QB's better than Tannehill but at the same time, it really isn't that far out of the question.

qbs I would take over ryan going into next year.

    Tom Brady..no debate

    AAron Rogers..no debate

Russell Wilson..no debate, not even close

    Berger..no debate

    Mariota..dont make me laugh

    Winston...dont embarrass yourself

    Brees...no debate

    Cam Newton...no debate

Derek Carr...you can if you want but Ill win the game with Carr, majority if not all of GMS would take Carr moving forward.

Alex Smith..hes a better ryan tannehill

    Matt Stafford...nooooot really

Matt Ryan...go ahead its cool, Ill take Matt ryan..

    Blake Bortles...think about it

    Andrew Luck...no debate

    Joe Flacco...no debate

Tyrod Taylor..im sure there will be with tyrod but he is having a better passing season than ryan ever has, by far, plus running ability and running production

    Eli Manning...no debate..

Andy Dalton..has reaches levels of play that ryan has not reached

    Carson Palmer...no debate

    #20..Ryan Tannehill.

also, I dont think you would get any jet, viking, or redskin fans wanting to switch out..

I have a hard time with anyone taking Carr over Tannehill, based on one season. Last year he averaged like 5ypa.

Carr or no Carr, it's pretty clear that Tannehill is still a middle of the pack to bottom tier QB.

Let's see if his career can be revived with a competent coaching staff that gives him the freedom to maximize his talents/

He is playing at a level in his 2nd season that Tanne has not yet reached in 4 seasons, so it's entirely fair.

Seriously? PFF has him ranked 30th . Football Outsiders has him 27th. ESPN has him 22nd. In fact, there's not a single news outlet anywhere that has him at 19th or better. Do we really have to have this conversation?

I am a huge proponent of ypa and that was indeed a knock on him last year. Thing is, his #1 receiver was James Jones and they let him go. Notice James Jones numbers are similar to what he did last year but this year he has Aaron Rodgers and only Randall Cobb in front of him. James Jones is like a #3 or #4 on a good corps.

They get him two legitimate but flawed WR (Crabtree and Amari ... Cooper's just flawed because he's a rookie, he's a stud in waiting) and he's lights out. He has taken a hit the last few games but through last year and this year he never threw a lot of INTs. His INT rate to start his career even throwing 600 passes as a rookie is 2.0 which is great. In just his second year he played at a very high level and he's 24. I'd wager a LOT of people would take Carr over Tannehill right now. His play at the end of the Tennessee game three weeks ago was killer.

I don't care where PFF, or football outsiders, or ESPN have him ranked. I asked DJ where he had them ranked, because I was curious as to his opinion and reasoning. What's so wrong with that? There's some guys on his list, I'd probably move around with him. I'd say he probably falls 17-20.

I don't care about ranking them based on statistics this year, last year, career to this point. I'm more looking at who you'd take for your team over him, which is what DJ has pretty much done.

If you don't want to have the conversation... don't?

In no particular order, I'd take the following QBs over Tannehill. I'm taking into account the future, so age and development matters. So does pay.

    1. Palmer
    2. Roethlisberger
    3. Wilson
    4. Dalton
    5. Taylor
    6. Newton
    7. Brady
    8. Mariota
    9. Brees
    10. Smith
    11. Winston
    12. Rivers
    13. Eli Manning
    14. Kirk Cousins
    15. Derek Carr
    16. Matt Ryan
    17. Brian Hoyer
    18. Rodgers
    19. Flacco
    20. Luck

At first I'm like, KirK Cousins???

But damn, since week 7. 11 TDs, 3 INTs. Good YPA's, Good completion percentage.

Hoyer? Might be a stretch there but hey, your list.

Statistically is not even close if u compare each player first two years.Carr has 49 tds and 21 ints qb rating of 85.
Tannehill 36 tds 30 ints and qb rating of 78.9.
However Carr is 9-20 as a starter if I remember correctly that he started every game last year.
Tannehill was 15-17 in first two years.
Carr at least is on the way up with possibly having a winning season if raiders can win out.Regardless Carr is getting better while Tannehill is treading water so only time will tell who will be better in the long run.

No it's improvement too. Hence Hoyer I'm still skeptical about but Cousins is only starting his 23rd game soon. Cousins is arguable and I probably stick with Tanny but it's not outrageous to me if someone likes Cousins.

Cutler is just that, Cutler. I keep bringing this up in refernece to Tannehill. Sure, you think he can take the next step, like Dalton. Or he can Cutler us. Tease us year over year with improvement yet he's still in the exact same spot.

If you asked me to take Carr over Tanny ... I probably do it. He's started 2 full seasons in the NFL now, so we know he can handle it. Imagine if he keeps improving, because that's what we assume Tanny will do right, keep improving.

Mariota and Winston its tougher as I want to see their 2nd year.

Okay, as for Mariota and Winston, do you see them going the way of RG3? I believe they are good enough in the pocket and don't rely too much on their athleticism.
